- In this last part of the compression tutorial series, Dan Worrall points out the different effects that compression can have on complex signals like drums or full mixes. He also gives different approaches to find optimal compression settings for different elements of a mix.

I love revisiting this series every now and then. It's been a few and refreshing on this pure approach to compression and the very concise explanations is worth it every time
Greatest commentaries/tutorials on UA-cam. Honestly wants to make me buy fabfilter more than an ad.
Exactly like where do I pay for more
Too true
@@josefedero1217 Just in case you didn’t know, Dan Worrall has videos on his own personal channel as well.
"..but I say this is nonsense"
Love your tutorials Dan, I have learned so much from them. Truly much appreciated.
"we're now only catching the loudest peaks instead of digging down into the body of the sound" that's what I call nailing it down on the point. such a great job.
This series really makes me wish UA-cam had a "LOVE!!!" button. "Like" just doesn't begin to describe it.
Always the greatest tutorial commentaries. Easy and clear to follow and keeps me engaged. Thank you for helping me understand compression so much more.
Dan, you blew my mind with that method of sending all the tracks fighting for space in the mix to a single compressor and having the prominent one jump out above the compression to stand out. Brilliant.
Audio engineering in general is relatively new to me but I find it ironic that Fabfilter’s high quality and versatile “pro” plugins are also the most beginner friendly! Getting visual feedback of the compression interacting with the signal and how all the knobs come into play it is so immensely helpful in understanding how compression works. I never would have understood by just twisting knobs labeled “knee” and whatnot. This compressor is going to the top of my list of things to save up for!
This seriei is by far the best tutorial on the somewhat mystifying subject of audio compression on UA-cam.
much better education than my Degree in audio engineering, dear lecturer!
I simply love this guy. Without a doubt Dan creates the greatest mixing tutorials on the internet. So much information, so detailed, straight to the point, no nonsense.
DAN FOR PRESIDENT!
for a long time i wondered if only individual parts would get compression, or groups of parts… or the whole mix… i like to experiment with other stuff but never with compression. always been out of ease with compression until this 3part series. thanks 🙏 🙏 thank you…. and all that as FREE information! and im going thru the three part again cause it’s night time and i need sleep and dont wanna get up to go try stuff right now…
The best video on compression I’ve ever come across. Thanks for all the practical tips!
These beginner's guides are superb. Thanks so much for putting the effort into making them and also for uploading them so we can all learn to make nicer sounding music.
This was a great series, Thanks guys.
The best tutorials in all UA-cam
I'm the only one who thinks the music should be louder than his voice? I find myself turning up and down the volume to clearly hear the effects of the plugin
Thank you Dan and fabfilter for making these! And while the tutorials are specific to ff plugs, the overall knowledge is not, really appreciated! :) Any chance getting a beginner's guide to multiband compression?
Your teaching is very inspiring. Very clear and well demonstrated. Thank you.
This is the best series on compressors. Especially the fab filter compressor, which is pretty fab
Excellent tutorial from Dan, he's one of the best on UA-cam.
These three videos were exactly what I needed. Definitely subscribed!
As usual, great tuts, perfect visuals, explanations.... Thanks Dan!
These are the best tutorials! I'm so excited to try the c2 on my mix bus!
thank you for these 3 videos. The info is VERY well presented and well grounded in pratical mixing.
Thank you! The visuals helped so much with my understanding and I am very very grateful for that. :)
FabFilter plugins are amazing. And Dan Worrall is a genius!
Ridiculously great video. Thanks.
Excellent series. Thanks Dan. Oh yeah: top-notch plug-in.
awesome series, thank you
Thanks so much for these tutorials.
Love your videos, thanks a lot!!!!
the best video for compression.
This is perfect. Thanks.
Fantastic, thanks!
awesome tips
Thank you!
Thnx, fell in love with pro c
Definitely makes me want to buy the Pro-C 2 🙂
superb !
Thank you Fabfilter
You guys could make 15 videos on compression alone and I would watch all of them (and not just for Dan's sexy voice). Keep it up!
Word to the wise... would be really handy to have highlights in the analyser of fundermentals, with harmonics..... always fancied that function.
Thanks great stuff..
Bless you!
THANKS
Fabfilter is my favorite plugin company
Dan Worral is a fucking master.
Did you compose the Persona5 soundtrack? MANNNN sounds so good!
nice technical info, but there is a lot more behind compression, waiting for part 4. 5 and maybe 6 cause it is a science today, many creative engineers have done pretty great stylistic jobs in albums which require or worth to studies and analyse, funny cause compression is only volume control :-)
Is there anywhere you can download practice projects to work with? i love playing with this stuff but dont have a studio to get the awesome recordings to play with
Check out the mixing competitions on indaba music. Even without submitting anything you can just grab some song stems to practise on.
Where can I DL this multitrack to experiment with it?
Thanks
But there's too much talking during playback.
really love this series! can't wait to dive into EQ next...only complaint is that sometimes the talking got distracting when i was trying to really focus on the changes of the sound. maybe in the future have some text on the screen instead of talking over the music constantly
I think the best way to learn is to go grab some audio and repeat these steps. Else in 2 weeks you won't remember any of these and your ears won't be trained. Just listening to someone else's work is not enough
Siiiip
Dan are you related to Paul Barton?
Why are you limiting rather than compressing ?
Help me please
what Dan says in min 8:34?
The other two gets ducked ............
@@robertoquimi1349 ....out of the way slightly to make room....
is that persona 5 music?
Turns out Dan Worrall is related to David Attenborough. No wonder :)
I'd buy this guys a roll of toilet paper if they said it makes my mixes sound better. Unfortunately I'm poor
I've never understood the popularity of parallel compression.
Careful With That Solo Button, Eugene.
I was definitely following the first two parts but this one I'm barely even hearing any differences. Does it even matter? 99% of the population can't tell a decent mix from a great one
"Don't over compress"
-Chris Lord Alge
As Bruce Swedian puts it: Compression is for Kids, great tutorial though
And what did we learn today?

Yes, we need that fabfilter TOTAL BUNDLE. Just make it cheaper please :D
00:09 No please
The only thing this plugin needs is a more modern GUI :D
It's very hard to hear the small changes you're making. I'm on headphones yes. I think you should talk less. You're making me lose focus :( I'd rather have a box of text on screen describing what you're doing. Just voicing my opinion.
What kind of headphones do you have? I can hear the small changes. Idk your background but maybe come back and have another listen at a slightly lower level? Like freewind says, this crash course is brilliant ear training. Good luck friend.
