Van Halen - Love Walks In (Guitar Cover)

- I thought I would add Sammy's solo at the start and 'fix' one of his notes while attempting to emulate Eddie for the rest. Even on a slower song like this, Eddie has some really tricky licks in there and once again I will mention that his sense of timing is insanely unique and hard to grasp. Sammy is also a great guitar player and I like that he did his own parts on the 5150 tour. Not much else to say but I really like the song and I hope you enjoy my attempt at covering it. Until next time :)

I use a Jackson DK2 into a Boss Me50 into a Palmer Pdi-09 into a Focusrite Scarlett into my computer running Logic Pro X. I added stereo delay in Logic also.

I love 5150 so much. "Dreams", "Why Can't This Be Love", and this hold a special place in my heart.
Can't explain it in musical terms but they have this connection.
Amazing cover as always.
This is one of those Van Hagar "onion songs" for me. The melody, how Sammy really pushes his vocals, Eddies solo. It's a mother cover for different reasons.
Van Hagar? Did you mean Van Halen? Who is Van Hagar?
Van Hagar is a, mostly, affectionate term for the period when Sammy Hagar was on lead vocals.
@@zoethefrenchgirl2996 Van Hagar is Van Halen minus Diamond Dave. With Sammy on vocals.
@@stevegibbs3520 ya with an "actual" singer lol. Sammy sings better with his big toe than Dave ever did but Dave was a performer on stage. Old Van Halen shows were Van Halen and then another show at the same time with Dave doing his "performing". Entertaining but also the thing that got on Eddie's and Alex's nerves and led to them punting Dave, among other things.
Fantastic Song and Awesome playing!
Excellent video and playing as per usual, Ben. VH has a special place in my heart as a child with my dad.
Another great piece! Listening to you on this channel is a great source of relaxation for me is the best way I can put it!
YESSSSSS!!! Been absent for a few and caught this one first. Been on a VH kick lately...saw some live Amsterdam the other day...EVH lives on 👍🤘🤘🤘🍻
Fab work Ben..Love Eddie's guitar tone..Again very very unique like Def Leppard. Love the songs from Balance too 🤘🏼
Another absolute banger, bwm! You always pick the best stuff.
I notice you're doing the opening from the Live Without a Net video. A+.
Amazing job. Here’s another one of my favorite songs from the Sammy era. The keyboard intro to this song is so magical every time I listen to it.
Sounds like super mario 64 bgm
Dude. Wow. Holy smokes
Crushed it, brother. The nuance in the solo and some of those fills is outstanding.
YEEEEESSSSS you did it. I was wondering if you were going to. Well done too. I like how you threw Sammy's tour solo in at the beginning. And yes, you hit it right on the head. Eddie was the best and everyone knows his unique quirks in his playing are there but as you said, some of the slower songs like this really show how hard it is to mimic what he did and the way he did it. I have rarely found video footage of Eddie playing the guitar parts live for this song. Last time i found some was like 5 years ago. I remember seeing him tap a little more than you did on the middle solo. But yes you are right. Many might think playing this song is easy because its slow but when you listen to the studio version of the whole song with Eddie playing all the guitar parts, its far from easy. Definitely one of those songs you would have to play hundreds of times to get close to the quirky things he does in this song and of course many of his other songs too
Thanks! It was tricky to find footage for Eddie’s hand positions and because he also varies his live solos up compared to the record.
@@bwm5150 Yes thats thats very true
oh dude this song is amazing, and your cover is sensational, thaks for this precius
Great Ben .
Awesome. Thanks for continuing to fly the VH flag in all it's wonderful chapters and nuances. Great, great stuff.
Amazing Ben , Thank you very so much.Van Halen is undererrated.God bless you
Great job as always Ben!!
Love this song, love your cover is stunning!!
Great job Ben!
Always loved how epic and otherwordly this song sounds, and you did it justice for sure.
This is absolutely great! You should do more Van Halen covers!!!!
There’s a playlist in the description of my Van Halen covers. Thanks
No joke re Eddies timing - been learning 5150 and the pre chorus : chorus parts are tricky as heck. And that solo is one of the craziest ever. I love Al would yell at him for coming in on the “3”. 😂 Great job Ben!
Great work.
Awesome!
This song is very cool
Made me cry dude
Great !
My all-time favorite Van Halen song, and man you nailed it. Love what you do!
Special song for me. From my first VH album as a kid (my first actual 1st album before that was from S Club 7 LOL), it was also my second VH song I taught myself on the keys. Hearing it always brings me back to the best days of my life. You did a great job of it.
Cheers
You should post a video of you playing it on keys.
@@TheRockinDonkey I don't make videos. But if you're talking to Ben, I wouldn't mind seeing that too. I like his vids where the keys have a cameo.
YESSSSSSSSS YOU DID IT😎😎😎😎
Love it, Fantastic as always
Fantastic cover, bwm. Just incredible. Always enjoy your videos. You play with so much heart just like Eddie.
Awesome job. I always thought it was cool how Eddie branched out and tried new sounds. Grew up with both eras and liked em both.
Oh Hell Ya I don’t miss nothing this master guitarist puts out, thanks again
Thank you, 30 Years waited for this ❤❤❤
I love this song, and your cover of it as well. Fantastic.
Great cover! You almost looked a little bored with it. Easy song for you to cover! Love your sound too!
Thanks! Haha, I assure you I wasn’t, just probably trying to concentrate to not mess up. 😁
Excellent job!!!!
Always making it look easy.
I'm just gonna hit the like button before watching because I know it's gonna be good 😂
YES BROTHER
Love the keyboard and guitar in this song.
Great job Ben!
You is the best my friend! I love your work!
Superb job, Mate. As usual. 😎🤟
I wish Sammy would play this song in concert. I can’t find anything of him doing it since it came out! Damn good tone son!!
They did it couple times at 1993
@@gadomskimotors man I was too young to go to a concert back then. He’s got this big tour this summer and he’s supposed to be focusing on VH songs so fingers crossed!
Brilliant as always Ben
Nice job man!
You’re making it look easy Ben! Amazing cover! From my favorite Van Hagar era too. Great job as always!
🎸 ❤

❤💪👊🎸
Great job on a beautiful song.
The Roth VH era is always my favorite but the shit they were able to came up in the Hagar era is so great and the beautiful shit would’ve never happened with Dave and I think we all benefitted from it.
Doesn’t hurt DLR had some good solo albums too.
Love your playing! Unrelated question - why use the DI box between the ME50 and Scarlett? The Scarlett (at least my model, but I thought all of them?) can take in either mic level or instrument level inputs - couldn't you just go direct from the ME50 into the Scarlett? (Full disclosure - I haven't tried going straight into my Scarlett, but I use an ME80 which can act as an interface by itself, going straight into my computer via USB.)
Thanks! The DI is a Speaker Sim from Palmer which simulates a mic’d up amp cabinet. It provides a nice consistent sound. Def Leppard, and many other artists, used the old rackmount version back in the 80s, which is what brought my attention to them. The headphone output on my Me50 has amp ‘simulation’ but it’s not as good but certainly these days, most multi fx have better outputs where you don’t need a speaker sim like what I have. But I still really like the sound and I’ve tried a few of the new units and not been as happy.
Also, going direct out into the line in doesn’t sound like it would when you put it in an amp, especially for distorted sounds. Try it out and you’ll hear. It needs an amp to convert those sounds when going direct although for clean sounds, it sounds great for rnb type playing.
You need that emulation which is usually just on the headphone output. More amps and effects have dedicated simulated outputs now.
@@bwm5150 Thanks for the explanation - I wondered if it had to do w/ tone, and interesting that the DI provides a speaker sim. I don't believe the USB out from my ME80 includes the speaker sim (only the headphone jack like the ME50). I usually use mine w/ a Marshall combo which does have a cab sim direct out, so I'm going to have to experiment.

How do you get by YT's censoring when playing recorded copyrighted music? I'm glad you do it, but so many others won't. Keep up the great work!
My videos aren’t monetised, but the copyright holders do claim them and make money from them. I don’t know how much that makes a difference. I will still get the odd video blocked every now and then but since this is a hobby, it’s not the end of the world. 😁
@@bwm5150 You're a gentleman and a scholar.
Muy bueno amigo! ❤ podrías deleitarnos con Adonai Petra por favor? tiene unos riffs increíbles ♾🌠👽 saludos!
Memo to Columbia: Don't threaten. Just do it. Pour encourager les autres.
Did you move your volume knob yourself?
I did
@bwm5150 that's awesome! I recently got a new Charvel and it has a low friction knob and I'm constantly hitting it inadvertently. Considering copying you now.
I will say that I am now used to it on my Charvel and I like rolling it while playing, and it’s certainly easier to mute playing live with it. See how you feel with it
Nice but you messed up the high note of Sammy's opening solo. It's not that high. And it sounds better the way he originally played it.
He bends it a bit flat and I’ve never thought it worked, so that’s what I refer to in the description as ‘fixing’ it, but if you prefer the original, that’s cool.
Dude, you are so amazing, I wouldn’t think to criticize you one bit. You do such a great job on every cover. Start up a band and bring back real rock!!
Great cover, when can we expect more leppardized covers?
Hopefully this month.
