- Probably my favourite track off 5150. Definitely my favourite Sammy vocal performance. Been meaning to do this one for forever but I guess I didn't want to face the impossible tapping styles of Eddie... :P. I actually meant to have this one done yesterday but I needed to let my tapping finger rest a little longer. Never thought I would need to build calluses on my right hand.
Anyway great track. Not a lot of guitar riffs as such but I tried to vary some of the chorus playing to help that. The solo is of course typical Eddie and I think he's the hardest to replicate as he just seems to have his own sense of style and timing. It;s not just the fact that he has some really hard licks to finger but he seems to go completely against convention. I had to just keep listening to like 2 second parts of the solo over and over and over to get it as ingrained in my head as possible and I think that helped. Really fun to play once you get past that hurdle. :)

You're spot-on Bro. This one is just an unbelievable piece of music, and song-writing. This song changed everything for me. 5150 changed everything. And this was my favorite tune off of it. Probably my favorite song of all time. What Edward came up with here, is just mind-blowing - still to this day. Rock on Bro.
Best album in their discography by a wide margin in my opinion. There’s no skips on 5150

I still find it hard not tear up when I listen to anything EVH. That solo was on point. Same with the end solo. I'll keep coming back.

Ugh I know, I was devasted when I heard he passed. It's so weird to think, people all around the world are so sad to hear when a celebrity dies, such as Eddie, when they barley know the person in general. Random thought there, lol. I guess that just proves how talented he is! I hope I can tour around the world one day, like he did. That'd be cool.

Man you made this look easy. The fact you even tried to replicate EVH's tone and technique is amazing in it's own right. The cool thing is you did an outstanding job. Well done!
Being a musician, and doing it professionally we notice the talent in other players and notice the not so talented and critique. I've had the privilege of traveling all over this wonderful world all while playing music, so I seen many of the best players in person. I'm now including you on my personal favorite guitarists. Not just because you're talented with your playing, it's that you have technique correct to the way it's composed. Yeah could shred and change things on the fly, lots can. But doing covers accurate and tasteful, that's why I would put you on the list

6 years later I still listen to this cover when I want to hear an instrumental cover, I even prefer it over the original. Eddie would have been so proud to see this and hear that tone.

Now that EVH is gone...my soul just hurts. I'm not really knowledgable in music. But I grew up with him. Just a huge fan. I always LOVED this song. So inspiring. And Sammy is great on vocals.

I often wonder if guys that play like you so effortlessly, went through the same obstacles that the rest of went through, like getting your fingers trained to for a G-chord or D-Chord, or did your finger just automatically feel comfortable in those positions. I remember when I first started playing, dang near forcing my fingers to form a D-Chord, and G-Chord, then moving from those 2 positions back and forth for what seemed like hours before It felt comfortable. F-Chord still doesn’t feel as comfortable as it should. Anyway, great playing.
@@themurphrees3795 of course, it’s all muscle memory and it takes time to get your fingers used to doing things they’ve never done before. As much as it’s important to keep practicing, it’s also important to have breaks when building it up.

There are a lot of covers of this song on YT. This one is my favorite because you play the keyboard chords instead of constantly barre chording through the verse and chorus like everyone else. It sounds much fuller and brings it to life. I don't think Eddie even did that live. The effortless but restrained wizardry is also inspiring to watch! Nice Job!

One of my favourite Van Halen tracks beautifully done in your usual precise guitar playing, this and Panama are great Van Halen tracks to play, unfortunately I am not near as good as you but you have a great choice of many of my favourite tracks of all time. Superb job, well done my friend!!!

That's what music did for many of us kids who were teens and older in the 80's.It was a release valve for us to blow off steam.I never learned to play,but always used music to brighten my day.

I also have to say, Eddie has done some of my favorite guitar solos in rock in the whole of the 1980's! They have a "wow"quality that is uniquely his and always blows me away. He is one f*** of a player! 😀😀

love it man & great job ! hearing the original play in the background with you playing just added more to the gutar i loved it., Eddie was my favorite guitarist the reason I became obsessed with guitar, this was my favorite van halen song even above any David songs, mainly due to Eddies mastered art of guitar in every song but this specific song even the harmony has a meaning behind it. it suited perfectly for the ending of power rangers back in the day. seeing this makes want to pick my axe back up. been listening since I was young and in this song it still hits me hard when sammie sings out "because we belong in a world that must be strong" those words will always be true.

Well done. I played this song with my band back in ‘87. Pretty much the same way I played it. Amazing song on my favorite VH album. Sammy really brought the rock to that band. Glad they got rid of the spandex clown.
