    Kermit is the kind of guy who pours his heart into aviation and having been a pilot myself for nearly 15 years I have total and complete respect for him, a dream of mine is definitely to fly with him soon in the future!

    To mess up a wonderful quote from Apollo 13, "If they had built a washing machine with wings, Kermit would restore it!"

    Good Luck, Kermit :-)!! I love visiting museums that keep these planes alive. It's also so much more of a treat to see/hear them fired up, & flown.

    I remember when I visited Fantasy of Flight a few months before it closed. Biplanes were closed and half of the museum was closed for a wedding. To make up for all of that, we got to meet Kermit while he was doping the wings for one of his projects. Seeing him work and talk about restoring and building aircraft is, in my opinion, the keystone event that made me decide that doing that kind of stuff was my speed. I wish you the best Kermit, can't wait to see what's coming in act III!

    In August of 1986 I flew my newly completed Baby Ace model D to Oshkosh for the EAA gathering. One afternoon as I lay under the wing to escape the sun Kermit came walking through the homebuilt parking area and stopped by my plane. He looked down at me and simply said, "Nice plane." I still remember that moment.....quite a thrill to get a compliment from him! I remember him as quite the gentleman.

    I have had the opportunity to being able to stop at the fantasy of flight while I was driving semis I was able to visit a lot of museums at that time and I found that Kermit weeks at the fantasy of flight Museum was the best I've ever experienced from the 40s style Cafe which by the way had excellent food to. 28 glympse of what it was like in World War 1 and World War 2 with the way he had the exhibits setup not only did Kermit weeks sell you a ticket to look at airplanes but he also gave you an experience and for that thank you Mr Weeks.being at Polk City and at the fantasy of flight are some of my most cherished memories

    I'm glad I got to see the museum a few years ago. I don't like the fact that it closed, but what is the sense of paying his employees if no one is showing up to make money to pay them. At least it is open again, even in a limited capacity, and you can still see some stuff (and not always the same as it will rotate) and he will save some money. Hopefully to get the B-24 in the air. (Or maybe the Sunderland! I'd like to see that again! Went to see it often when it spent the winter at the Pioneer Inn in Oshkosh.)

    Wow, Hard to realize that Kermit just turned 60! I was with him in Oakland when he dismantled the "Fertile Myrtle" B-29 along with Nick Veronico from "In Flight". The pictures I have of that day sure had us all a lot younger. BTW, I was the Executive Director of "The Flying Boat" on Hegenberger Rd. Well, we were younger-albeit over 20 years ago. Good Luck Kermit.

    Nice to see he has a mint - condition B-24 Liberator. The Willow Run Air Museum up here in Michigan could use one. That's where they were built in the first place. Maybe you two could join forces..?

    Be careful of the Fire system ! Our went off I the summer time and ruined a number of customers aircrafts. I do believe the people told us that the system went off because of the hot weather. (North Carolina)

    I enjoyed my visit back in Apr 2014, the weekend before the last weekend before closing. You flew the P-51B. Such a sight to see and hear. Also had one of the best hamburgers I'd had in years at the diner. Looking forward to coming again soon. BTW, are the plans to build a seaplane port on the lake still in the works?
    Take care and thank you for sharing your wonderful collection with us.

    For those asking where Kermit is, he's just east of Lakeland, Florida on Interstate 4. That's about halfway between Tampa and Kissimmee (Walt Disney World). In fact, Kermit coined the term "Orlampa" (Orlando/Tampa) for his location.
    Keep 'em flying, Kermit!

    I'm sorry to see "DORIS" left to the elements but what can you do. The most interesting part about her is the original graffiti inside the navigator's position. I had the privilege of working on her during the early '90's and was unable to do much in the way of restoration apart from desperately needed maintenance.

    Some Seniors have more money and a better retirement pension than many of the working class non seniors. Maybe it's a better idea to charge everyone the same price, and then mention that if anyone has an abundance of money, they can always pay more to help keep the business profitable. This way you pay based on what you have available and how much you are worth.

    • @dyer2cycle
      @dyer2cycle 5 років тому

      I agree-sounds like a good idea...that's how property taxes should be...how much you're worth,your ability to pay, not the "market value" of your home...
