- The Halifax Citadel was declared a National Historic Site in 1952. Today its restored walls welcome all who wish to learn about defining moments in Canadian history. This video highlights the painstaking restoration work behind this seemingly ageless fort.

Visited two weeks ago, and it made us VERY proud to be Canadian. Thank you to all the artisans and soldiers who make it part of our history.
I was there a month ago and I loved it, thank you for the people that put the time into it.
Love our history
Glad you enjoyed your visit!
Amazing video! New thing on my bucket list.
Wow I didn't even know this place had been restored ! Great video. Can't wait to go visit! :)
Great video.
Awesome learn something new everyday
When was the restoration done? I grew-up in Halifax and my first memories of visiting the Citadel are from the mid-1970s. It then looked much as it does now. I do miss the military history exhibits in the old museum; they have never reappeared in another facility.
The intensive restoration began in the mid-1950s and went until the 1990s; however, restoration is ongoing in this stone fort, with masonry projects undertaken every year. Most of the military history exhibits at that time were housed in the Army Museum, which is still onsite today. (armymuseumhalifax.ca/). We hope you will get a chance to come visit the Army Museum and also to see our new signature exhibit, Fortress Halifax: A City Shaped by Conflict, which opened this past year and tells a comprehensive history of Halifax. (parks.canada.ca/lhn-nhs/ns/halifax/activ/exposition-exhibit).
It looks a bit like Fort George in Scotland.

What if we need to use this in conflict again... it's all foam walls
War has changed. Citadel hill won't protect us from nukes
