  • I am so excited to finally have gotten back to Hogg Mine in Lagrange, GA for a second time! The first time I went to Hogg Mine, I found tons of Black Tourmaline, some Rose Quartz, and NO BERYL! I couldn't handle that I didn't find any great pieces of Beryl the first time, so this time I really focused hard on finding the Beryl!
    If YOU want to go to Hogg Mine and dig for your own crystals, check out this link: hoggmine.com/

    This is not a lava flow you are digging in. This is aluvial scree and everything you are showing us has been removed from its matrix, but has not been worn smooth by water. So where is the living rock formation that all this stuff came from?

    Kyle: Very nice video. I have just one technical comment (can’t help it as I am a geologist⚒😀). You refer to the host rock of the minerals being collected as being part of a lava flow. A lava flow is an extrusive flow of igneous material on land or sea floor surfaces. The material you are collecting is from deeper, slow cooling (hence the crystals) magmatic origins later exposed by uplift and erosion. You are most likely collecting from pegmatitic zones in an ancient silicic pluton or batholith.

    I saw the comment/question below about polishing/cabbing or turning the stone in jewelry, and your response that you like to keep them in the form that you found them. So what is the end game there? Do you have buckets and shelves or display cases around your house with all the stuff that sits there for the next decade? Do you sell your findings to those who do lapidary work? I ask because I rock hound some myself and I cut and polish some myself too, but I am having the issue of running out of space and not being able to enjoy all the specimens that I find and keep house around. Also a good polish can bring out additional beauty of the stone. Want to know if the Beryl you found is typically used in jewelry or cut stones and has value for such?

    • @WILDKYLE
      @WILDKYLE  3 роки тому +1

      I typically keep my favorite pieces in my collection and display them. I have a bunch of stuff I do with items I don't keep. I put some on my eBay store, I send some to my Patreon supporters, and I give lots away to my friends. I should have specified I like the beryl as I find it. When I find things like agatized coral I like to clean them up, and cut the geodes, and have the edges polished.

You control your destiny. Did Albert Einstein, Teddy Roosevelt, Alan Turing, President 5-star General Supreme Commander Dwight D Eisenhower, Abraham Lincoln, President Gen. Ulysses S. Grant, George Washington, MLK, JFK, Bill Nye, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Conan (Harvard grad to show host right now) , Confucius, Socrates, Sir Issac Newton, Plato, Darwin, and Leif Erikson etc. wait for things to happen? Nope! If you want something , go get it. I mean, I love all of that. Physics, meteorology, geography, history, the whole nine yards. Don't just comment about this shit. Its just downright stupid. Pegmatite is igneous, but forms as an intrusion into metamorphic rock and cools very very slowly. Such slow rates of cooling aren't possible at the surface where volcanoes form

    Ashley found some incredible color! You guys have been doing some good rock-hounding. I have enjoyed the videos but, what the heck is going on with Chris? He hasn't put out a new video in like a month and I miss your bro-mance too. You guys are hilarious together. Sorry, not complaining, I'm really glad you have been able to put out videos regularly, again. I will watch and enjoy anything you put out but a Paleo/Wild Florida fossil video will always be my favorite. 😁

    My 2 month old, teething, nephew, slept long enough for me to watch this awesome video. It makes me want to camp for a weekend at Herkimer diamond mines, upstate NY. I found so much the 1st time I went. That was decades ago. I still have my finds. Nothing big but all beautiful. I love the aquamarine. And black tourmaline. ✌❤❤❤❤☺🙏
