Definitely one of my favourites from the Pertwee era (which is already one of my favourite eras of the show) I think the reason it nailed the Autons so well is because the threat felt quite down to Earth due to the fact that there was a lot of focus on random civilians like the farmer and his wife and their reactions made them more terrifying I feel
One of my favourites, the first VHS I bought and first story I watched before seeing my first as broadcast story, Battlefield (late to the party!) The on film look gives this story the extra quality. A good introduction to Who story!
Legit, this story gave me nightmares! The DVD cover my family had gave me nightmares! All I saw of this story for years was the DVD Cover, the DVD Menu & small clips on the internet. That’s it, that’s all I saw until I was 10 years old & finally had the strength to watch it. Before than tho, I couldn’t even look at anything from this story! My dad & older sister use to tease me with the DVD Cover & I’d had to hide in my mother’s arm! THE DVD COVER TERRIFIED ME ENOUGH, AND THE SMALL SELECTED CLIPS ON THE DVD MENU WHEN I FIRST TRIED TO WATCH AT THE AGE OF 5 MADE ME CRY! It’s the faces of the Autons! The fact that they were slightly warped, didn’t sit right on the head & that they had small empty eye sockets scared me the most! I’m glad I’m not the only one who found this story to be Nightmare Fuel!
I absolutely adore Spearhead, it’s a real favourite from the 1970s era of the show and one I often rewatch. In addition to being the first who story in colour, the story is also entirely shot on film due to a BBC strike at the time, so I believe it’s the only story like that, meaning the image quality is incredibly crisp in comparison to the rest of classic who. I do love the autons here, they’re bloody creepy, but I feel in their subsequent appearances, they haven’t expanded on them as much. I’d love a proper Invasion Of The Body Snatchers style story with them, a slower invasion built up, where characters we know are Autons, that could be pretty cool I think.
I would love to see a brand new Auton and Nestene Consciousness story designed to be very creepy and atmospheric Of course, I would prefer a competent Doctor under a completely different showrunner
Can you guys do a nightmare fuel on The shadow creatures from Ghost I think the film itself is hugely underrated and one of the standout reasons are these apparitions who take bad people to the other side truly bone-chilling stuff I've been watching some Dr who in preparation for the 60th anniversary episode hope you guys are well and all the best 😊👍
Happy 60th Anniversary Whovians! Do you think that SPEARHEAD FROM SPACE is one of the scariest stories ever? - Connor
Could you do a review of the caves of Androzani from the 5th doctor era?
As a Doctor Who fan and a UNIT cosplayer I've always found this story not only interesting but yes one of the darker episodes of classic Who
💯
They were also the first villains we saw in series 1 back in 2005
The season that Spearhead was in (Season 7) is generally regarded as a more gritty, adult season of Who

Channing alway made me think of captain black/the mysterons..... he would have been awesome as black.

Two movies I would suggest: The Serpent and the Rainbow, The Keep.
Hugh Burden is fantastic as Channing! One of my favourite classic Doctor Who serials! 😊

I'm going to watch SFS right now!
Real Doctor Who, not like the faux rubbish we get today. Spearhead is in the top five stories ever.
