Great video - one correction: those daily pages are in fact designed to go in between the month tabs, as you said you wanted. They go after the back side of the months (back side of page 2). GTD (Getting Things Done) by David Allen is an example of the "bottom up" planning you mentioned. It's kind of the reverse of the FC approach, in that it starts with the micro and expands to the macro.
I agree with your critiques of their website and pricing structure too. In fact, I plan to email them a link to this video so they can get that feedback! Nice job. Thanks especially for showing the special 7 Habits section, which is unique to this pack, and is the core of their brand.

I had to call them several times and they were very accommodating to me. Very friendly and nice.

There is a great book on the mechanics of how to properly use a Franklin Planner. The name of it is To Do, Doing, Done! Don't know if it's still available or not. I go back and reread it occasionally. It's excellent. The beauty of the Franklin System is that it's a total system, not just a task list.

Is the book in any way similar to the 10 Natural Laws of Successful Time and Life Management Paperback by Hyrum W. Smith ?? www.amazon.com/gp/product/0446670642/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=antonishaplan-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=0446670642&linkId=ac424084fd663e192747de49d2e8f24d

The process behind the Franklin planner system is NOT the 7-Habits. It's an adaptation of how Benjamin Franklin planned his days. Stephen Covey bought the company from Hyrum Smith and adapted it to his 7 habits philosophy. If you do some web searches one Franklin Quest (the original company) and Hyrum Smith , you'll find some great information..
That being said, I really miss the stores and the pre-covey Franklin Quest. It was hands down the best personal productivity system out there.

I was trained to be a Franklin Timequest facilitator by Hyrum in 1994. What a wonderful person. What an amazing program.

Food for thought, why not just add your dailies behind the end of the month? It's designed to go that way, that's why there is a break between the monthly master task and the following month. That's how I do mine👍 Love your in depth review.

Excellent video. Thanks for preparing this. I was unaware the 7 Habits planner was even available from the site and didn't see it when I purchased my refill. Adding this to my 2018 shopping cart.

Loved this video. Thanks for showing all the pages. I totally agree with your critiques of the company and their truly lame website. I wish all the sets came with the 7 habits info. I may have to try this set next year. I had some rare free time this weekend and drew out some diy planner layouts (I used to make my own planner). It was fun, but after, I just looked at it all and thought, "Why am I doing this? My FC is laid out and ready for everything. It's so easy. If it ain't broke, don't fix it." I put the diy away and read a book instead. :-) I did weigh my FC planner, though. My only gripe is how heavy it is - a little over 3 pounds! It's definitely not something I carry with me. I wish it was light and small enough to do so. I just don't think compact is large enough for my needs. I would love to see your setup with this in your compact binder and see how you're using it all. Thanks for the video!

As far as the 7 Habits, you are supposed to be working on all of them at the same time. If you are just starting, you need to master habit 1 before habit 2, etc but there is no set time frame that it should take. I think the inserts go under the impression that you have already implemented each of the habits into your life so they are just refreshers each day and not necessarily that you need to only be working on this one. It is weird that they didn't just start the year off at habit 1.

Great information. Fantastic planner. The Franklin company (business side of things) needs to get as wonderful as the planner itself. Then they would be unbeatable!

Sorry - one more comment - I no longer work for FC because it was a second job to supplement my income as a public interest lawyer. I remember the days I worked for them with great fondness.:)

One issue I had with the 7 Habits was the "7" (graphic) under the date; for some reason it stood out to me (visually) and appeared as the date. I know this is odd but for some reason it really bothered me - I ended up putting stickers over this graphic on all pages. I agree with you on the picture on the notes pages; I also started to sticker this area ... it became too much. I loved the shaded task area.

No, that totally makes sense about the 7. I hadn't thought of that. Glad to know I'm not the only one & that it's working out for you. :)

Yes, I saw another review on their website which expressed the same complaint. It's a good point.

  • @calisongbird

Another correction... the Starter Pack does not come with monthly tabs. Those you either have to get as part of a planner refill pack (with dailies & weeklies) or as a separate pack of just monthlies.

Does the planner start with the sixth day of the week? That may be why it starts with the sixth habit since Monday is the first habit each week.

Yes, I was also surprised by how the website and customer service is so bad. I can't help but think that FC believes that because their main product is paper that they don't have to provide a good digital experience.

The Day on 2 Pages always worked the best for me, but now that I'm keeping on my notes electronically I don't really need the notes page. Have you found any new weekly layouts? I'm debating on reordering the PlannerPad refill. I customized it with key goal and monthly pages ala Top Down Planner.
