    I have mine coming Tuesday. I don’t need anything above entry level as I might only use it once a week at the most but it can get a bit difficult with the jigsaw. I won’t be resawing anything as I have neither the room or strength due to upper body difficulties. The best thing about Screwfix is you can sort a return in a day usually.
    A great and informative review and subscribed.

    Just purchased this and Getting it in next 2-3 days. The reason I got it is because I really want a band saw and the value of this one is brilliant. Wasn’t sure if to get it but then saw this video and you sold it for them. Thank you

    I purchased one of these 3 months ago. It was was awful when it arrived. The factory setup is appalling. You need to go through just about everything especially drive belt tension. I found a couple of rubber tabs under the fence clamps made a much more stable fence. Having set the blade up and all the supports left right and back on the upper guide and the same on the lower guide it now cuts straight and true and there’s no drift. Awesome. I’m happy to recommend this saw now.

      Ng0254 I also noticed this is the first thing you need to do go thru all of it and set it up rite, if you just turned this on from the factory you’d be in trouble.

    Nice review thanks. I have had this bandsaw for about 4 months. I really like it, very useful and handy. It comes with. 1/4 inch blade (6mm) (6 teeth per inch) which I found to be a bit flimsy and wavered a bit in straight cuts. I bought a 3/8 inch blade (10 TPI) which made all the difference. Much better cut, especially on resawing. I bought it from The Bandsaw shop, on line. £14 inc all delivery postage etc. Well worth it, and got it next day.

    Just in passing - if you happen to live where Screwfix aren't delivering at the moment (like France where I live) the same machine is branded MacAllister and available in places like Brico Depot for the same price. MacAllister is listed as Kingfisher Products, which is the parent company for Screwfix. I went in to compare the MacAllister to the Titan and found that it was identical! Same machine.

    Decent video but 12mm is not a 1/4". I have now bought one of these machines and it does indeed come with a 1/4" blade, which I have swapped for 1/2" or 12mm. after which, you are right - It copes admirably. So thanks!

    I have one of these and was looking for a video on 45 degree cutting with the table tilted . Would have been nice to see this in the review. Good review all the same, well done.

  • @johnmontague69

    Comes with a quarter inches blade which is about 12 millimetres..!!! What??
    12mm is double what your blade is lol.
    4.76mm is 3/16 inch
    6.35mm is 1/4 inch.
    9.52mm is 3/8 inch
    12.5mm is half inch
    19.05mm is 3/4 inch
    25.4mm is 1 inch
    What are your blade dimensions?
    You need to get yourself a imperial to metric chart printed off and hang it on your wall for future reference.
    New Sub ☺

    Thanks for this review - it's great to have entry-level UK tools reviewed. It is draining to watch lots of north American reviews of brands we can't get readily here in the UK. Question: Did it take much to set up - did the wheels need installing / aligning, assembly of the blade guide? Thanks again.

    • @WheresMyPencilUK
      @WheresMyPencilUK  7 років тому +4

      Hi Jamie didn't take much to set up I just tensioned it up and adjusted the tracking and ensured the blade was square. It was all in the instructions and very simple. 👍🏼

    The thing about the fence is that bandsaws are often used freehand and if you want a straight cut you use a table saw with a fence.

  • @MrChegcelestialslides
    @MrChegcelestialslides 4 роки тому

    Watch out for the plastic guide mechanism, it has soft plastic teeth and they get worn fast if you don't help lift mechanism with your hand when adjusting, also make sure you you do all the guide tighteners before each project and test it with a cheap bit of wood before you try an expensive or important piece.

    Seems like a really fair deal, Titan stuff definitely isn't bad for the money. Looks to offer a bit more than some of the other budget hobby bandsaw offerings in the £80-£120 range. That table definitely looks more useful than some of the others, at least it's cast alloy and has a mitre slot for custom jigs etc.
    Might well pick one up for prepping blanks for the lathe, shame the depth of cut isn't a little bit more for deeper blanks.

    • @WheresMyPencilUK
      @WheresMyPencilUK  7 років тому

      Yes the cut depth isn't the biggest but it's not too bad. The table is very sturdy as you say and the saw is nice and quiet which I like.

    I wanted a saw for cutting 6mm ply for a modelling project. I bought a table saw that doesn't have the strength of this. I have had Titan tools before and they can take an awful lot of abuse. Having seen this I shall buy one now rather than spend a lot of time fiddling about with the tablesaw which quite clearly isn't up to the job, ie it overheats and blows a fuse after a very short time. A cheap Chinese motor as against something rather more substantial. Good review, told me all I want to know.

    I have had this saw for about a month now and have really enjoyed using it, I have been mainly cutting mahogany and Ash, of about 5cm thickness, it has managed this with no problem both with straight cuts and curved cuts. I think the blade it came with is probably not the best and will probably replace it with something a bit better. The machine works perfectly well providing you remember it is a bandsaw and not a table saw, this machine does slower cuts but can cut curves as well as straight cuts.

    • @stephenwaller7461
      @stephenwaller7461 2 роки тому

      Dont get the screwfix recommended blade (Starrett 1575mm or 62inch blade) its too big. To cut my story short I measured the blade , it was 1583mm and there was insufficient ajustment on the saw to acommodate the oversize. The box the blade came in even had a label stating it was 1575 when it obviously wasnt.

    I gave a thumbs up because it was a useful review. If I would have one slight criticism, it would have been better to show the test cuts in real time so we could see how well it handles the wood. At X12, any old bandsaw would look like it's cutting well. But a useful review. Thank you.

  • @paulround8501

    There is a very simple 5 minute mod to do to make the fence clamp down solidly. You just need to dismantle it and file a couple of raised holes flush and after that it clamps down rock solid. There are videos on YT showing how to do it.

    • @barrysherwin3297
      @barrysherwin3297 3 роки тому

      It depends how its set up. Set mine up out of the box 3 years ago and despite removing it for different jobs it goes back in place with no adjustment required ! Is solid as a rock and can pull the saw around the w/shop (mobile base) without it moving !. Still using the original blade too, mostly pine but some oak.

    • @paulround8501
      @paulround8501 3 роки тому

      @@barrysherwin3297 There is a common manufacturing issue with the fence out of the box, mine had it and the fence would not lock down properly at all just like the one in this video. I did the mod which literally took 5 minutes and it fixed the problem. The saw itself is pretty solid and for the money it is excellent, just the fence that let it down for me out of the box. But as I said a very easy fix.

    • @barrysherwin3297

      @@paulround8501 Looks like I got lucky with my fence. Not so good with the mitre guide which has some sideways play and up to now the best cure is with thin tape but this does not last for too long as you can imagine. I would avoid Titan products to be honest. I used to have a Titan table saw, it lasted me one project (large climbing tower with connecting Wendy house) , the engine burnt-out on me while cutting 3" post into panels.
    The build quality is very poor, the fence had a lot of give making wonky cuts and the miter was pretty useless too.

    Re comments below. Heads up for availability of this bandsaw. Got email from S. Fix. Restocking on 22nd Oct. Looks exactly like the Aldi one (different colour)which got a good review. That was £81 but not available. Sold out!

    • @ianmathieson65
      @ianmathieson65 6 років тому

      pete wright: The ALDI bandsaw is good value at its lower price but only has a pressed steel table which is trickier to adjust if you need to tweak or alter its tilt angle, and it doesn’t have a mitre slot. Also its throat is smaller - 8 inches compared with the Titan’s 9inches.

    Are you able to Cut thin 5mm slices of wood from an 60mm-80mm blank,
    Without them breaking using a gate/ guide ,
    Im looking for a saw to cut some thin 3mm-5mm slices from blocks without it breaking them
    to use on projects
    so i can sand polish varnish these 3-5mm thick
    60mm-80mm wide, 90mm long , so its like veneer sheets ,
    Do you think this saw would handle that ok,
    Some would be 3mm thick others 5mm , usual at about width of 60mm x 80mm length,

      I’d say you would probably need a wider blade than the standard one to reduce deflection but it should cope fine.

      martkt10 you should be fine just check the size of the table is sufficient for the size of what you want to cut.

    hi any tips on getting the bandsaw to cut straight on wood more than 3cm it will pull to either side.

    • @WheresMyPencilUK
      @WheresMyPencilUK  7 років тому

      +darren sam I don't tend to use it for cuts that have to be really straight but try to lower the guide as close to workpiece as possible and go slowly. Use the fence too.

    • @WheresMyPencilUK
      @WheresMyPencilUK  6 років тому

      Have you tried tensioning the blade?

    • @ianmathieson65
      @ianmathieson65 6 років тому

      A lot of users think the tracking should be set so the centre of the blade lies at the highest point of the tyre but this causes blade wander as the teeth try to ‘flip’ from side to side when the blade is pushed back in use into a slight curve between the upper and lower rear support wheels. The tracking should be set so the root of the teeth lies at the highest point. And getting a good tension is important in addition as already pointed out.

      Should do although likely to leave saw marks as stock blade isn’t that fine. Shouldn’t give chip out though.

      It’s not designed for it but would depend on the blade. It would cut aluminium but would struggle with steel.

    I'm sure a lot of these bandsaws are identical just with different names and brands stuck on the side. Also, they should be ashamed of producing that fence. It's the same fence (same piece of junk) that comes with a lot of them. There's no reason whatsoever they couldn't produce one that doesn't move. I paid a lot more for my bandsaw but nevertheless it came with that same fence. The far end of it just hooks over the plate. It isn't even at a right angle. Just sort of holds on like a finger. I don't care if it's a cheap bandsaw or an expensive one... it's got to be fit for purpose. I made a fence in the end out of a piece of wood and two metal corner brackets that works perfectly (I do apologise.... rant over).
