Don’t take that to heart. As an artist myself I know how easily an artist can get caught up in perfectionism. He’s chasing something that doesn’t exist. Don’t get caught up on his “ideal” RPG. I’m just ready to enjoy the unique differences of his games and new unique games from new directors at From which is what I’m most excited for.

Yeah, and the DLC is the size of Limgrave. Let us no quote the man on anything too practical... Cuz at this point he's lowkey trolling with some of the stuff he says, or is otherwise intentionally obfuscating with his phrasing.
He can't make his "ideal RPG" because he can never enjoy going through the games he himself has made, it will always be self-defeating. This is most likely what he meant.

Hmm, I feel like it would be a big departure to their storytelling since most of the Souls games (Dark Souls trilogy & Bloodborne in particular) focus heavily on their hopeless world and the slow decay and fall of society due to the sins of their ancestors, to the point where I kinda consider it to be their style.

It'd be like telling Pokemon to stop with the catching and fighting and do something different, leave that to spin-offs or to other companies, let the formula remain so that the core playerbase can keep enjoying it.

Something that I am 100% convinced of that we’ll get down the line is a Fantasy Mecha game led by Miyazaki. Mainly because well… on top making sense given what genres FromSoft has mastered until this point, Miyazaki has downright stated that he’d love to make games that evoked the feelings of Escaflowne and Aura Battler Dunbine. And go figure, both those series are fantasy mecha anime where the pilots can fight both inside and outside the cockpit. Beyond that, FromSoft has already basically made something like this in the past in the form of Frame Gride (which Miyazaki also mentions), which was basically medieval Armored Core with a focus on arena combat.
I also agree that medieval dark fantasy stuff is a little played out at this point, which is why this is something I’d rather see down the line, but I’m 100% it’s going to happen, more so now after AC6.

    • @travman1987

    • @m.ubaidaadam
      @m.ubaidaadam Місяць тому +1

I’d love to see a modern take on Framegride with a mix between mecha and pilot gameplay (sort of how torrent can’t go to certain places maybe the mechs can only be used in certain areas like the spaces between dungeons or boss rooms inside dungeons) maybe they could combine it with the blood borne gothic aesthetic kinda like lies of P.
I also think the Sekiro parry based combat could definitely be worked into it as well, especially if they could expand on the free running movement options (more aerial executions).
Mix this with some seamless multiplayer and it would be absolutely amazing although I’m just throwing some ideas out there.

My only complain with Elden Ring is the unnecessary reuse of a lot of bosses! I don't mind to face a boss for like two times but they put the same boss more than 5 times in a row (Magma Wyrm, Godskins, Radagon Wolf, Falling Star Beast) and they even commit the crime for reuse a freaking epic boss like Astel and The Dancing Lion...
I mean the game is still a solid 10/10 for me but if they just fix this issue on the next game, or just diminish the times we face the same monster I'll all in!!!

For a game as ambitious as Elden Ring's open world, you're bound to have some copy-pasted assets. It's the curse of any open-world game, and the only reasonable way to fix that would be to make the game world smaller and more compact, and I hope Fromsoft goes into that direction instead of chasing the open-world trend.

Like instead of random invasions against people who aren’t interested in pvp or meeting the sweatiest of gank squads, I think it would be cool if they took certain levels, started the host and his buddies at the beginning of the level with a timed objective to make it to the boss fog, with an invader spawning in at random. The host and summons would be able to replenish their heals after defeating mini-bosses blocking their path, which would also prevent them from just making a mad dash to the boss

I think a dialogue log is the most I'd be okay with. Something that allows you to read all previously obtained dialogue for each NPC, plus each NPC's prior locations where you met them. Then you use that to figure out what to do. An actual quest log that has explicit hints and highlights key words would be very out of place imo.

Some things that I‘d like to see:
Either just magic or just weapons. I‘d like there to be some kind of combo system and move flexibility during the fight. We had a little bit of that with the chain casting glitch, and some people combo things like Miriams Vanishing and Carian Piercer; but I‘d like that to be more established.
I think the spirit summons would make for a great overhaul to invasions. Rather than invading with a player character, go back a bit to the original idea of random stronger monsters.
Also, did you know: Messmers name is german for sacristan? A fitting name given his position.
Not just that, Ansbach is a city in germany. The legend known as the Wolf of Ansbach has it that when a hated mayor passed, nobody mourned him, and his vengeful spirit came back and possessed a wolf to take revenge. The wolf killed multiple people before being trapped and put down, at which point the citizens cut off its muzzle and dressed it in the mayors old cloths along with a fake beard and a wig to make it look like an old man.

We know we'll get more Fromsoft games not made by Miyazaki himself, since he stated that many of his assistants and coworkers felt ready to make their own products and games, so my "wishlist" is regarding the next Miyazaki's game specifically:
For the next big RPG title, be an Elden Ring 2 or a spiritual successor, built on its fundation like ER did to Dark Souls, I just wish for a brand new engine to allow us to be on the same level with their evolving philosophy in regard to enemies and bossfights. Elements such as "sekiro deflect", backstep, sidestep and overall more fluid moves being default tools at our disposal, not locked behind time-limited items and consumables, alongside a hefty rework for how sorceries and incantations work

Another two things I honestly thing should be addressed are:
    1. Enemy damage and player defense: I'm not on the boat of tanking everything, but getting hit for half HP when fully armored to teeth is a bit of BS to be completely honest. And there were mods which addressed that for DS3. Everything From need to do is to change how defenses work and rebalace these values. Make heavy armor having it cost with weight and proper stats distribution while giving proper defenses. That's really much it.
    2. Talismans and buffing: This went a bit of the rails in Elden Ring. Most encounters require to buff every 30 seconds or so because of the From mentality and it's getting really exhausting. Some bosses in the DLC leave really small openings to do anything and buffing isn't exactly what do you think when having a dragon on your ass. Talismans are the same thing. It's either 20% boost to something or basically nothing. Make talismans have special effects which alter gameplay, add functions or basically anything but not % damage boost to one attacks. That's not a healthy way of doing things. Look at Guild Wars 2 relics where all of them have a very different purpose depending on how you play. Of course most players will gravitate towards damage, but there are a lot of which you can take advantage of or cover weakness of your build.

"It may sound like I have a trauma or something, but I believe that the world is generally a wasteland that is not kind to us. That’s just the way I see it."
It does sound grim, yes, but that doom-and-gloom outlook has some artistic benefits too. "Light looks more beautiful in darkness," he said. "When there is something beautiful in the middle of a wasteland, we are able to appreciate it more. One jewel doesn’t look like much when you have a pile of them, but if you find one jewel in the midst of mud, it is worth so much more."

I have no doubts Fromsoft will make more bangers. Their legacy won't end here, will they peak as high as Elden Ring? Maybe not, but that's ok. Elden Ring is open world and very diverse in how you can play it that's its strong suits, and that's exactly why it has so many fans and followers.
I think what will be worrisome is whether or not Miyazaki is over the development over the next game or future titles. We're at some point going to have to accept that one day we will have a Fromsoft game that Miyazaki didn't have a hand in regardless if its good or not. I'm optimistic but I have no doubt others will be pessimistic about it. As for future titles with Miyazaki as a part of them, yeah they'll be bangers without a doubt.
As for what I want in a future title. I'd like for us to be a part of a living world, and if the world has to fall in said future installment I'd love for our character to be there during the trigger of the worlds downfall. I feel like they would have to start a whole new formula from scratch in order to properly implement full towns, since the current formula was made with no towns like that in mind. On top of that they'd be dealing with something they've never done before, and would take more time and resources to do. What's the benefit of it all? I get the sentiment of From stepping more outside their comfort zone, but I think it's fine to simply improve on an already existing formula with one series, and take baby steps toward variations and other genres with the other games they make (Sekiro, Armored Core, Déraciné).

anyone here still playing Elden ring on our daily basis? Ever since the dlc I still am to this day. And it's only because of PVP I am addicted to the arena.
But back to topic I seriously wish the next tile would be blood-borne 2 and for it to be in an open world setting like Elden ring I know that's not gonna happen but man I would be so happy if that was the case that means we would be getting 100+ hour blood-borne 2

Didnt quite understand where your first argument came from, the entirety of ER lore is taken from the worlds ancient myths and meta physics all mixed together. Even tho i will admit its very hard to find for most players. Perhaps they need to make this kinda stuff less obscure because even after 2 years and being pretty well versed in ancient mythologies im still being shocked at things i missed. A whole revamp of the quest/npc system could possibly be the way forward as even tho i love the environmental story telling I still find it quite frustration having the chance to miss great storeys just because I didn't talk to an NPC 10x/exhaust their dialogue or didn't read some random item description.
Id love to see perhaps a smaller scope game that has a more PVP focus, obviously the usual bosses but that pushes people towards PVP/interacting with others.
Also the idea from the “spellbound” “leaks” where the world/Central location is one huge sprawling city (i feel they tested this idea with the shadow keep) with lots of verticality (also much like the DLC) as appose to warping from place to place/an open world.

I agree with changing the atmosphere, I want something more bright fantasy with friendly villages. I also want advanced multiplayer.
I dont care if it references the realworld, I just want the deepness of lore.
Otherwise I really want a lot, like a lot, of work on the progressions systems, combat, movement, and world design.
I want a small, dense, and riddled with reward open world. But it us an actual open world: meaning you can swim, you can climb, no invisble walls or death walls. I want more combos, I want to be able to switch builds on the fly without having to fat roll, I want a skill tree of ash of war like things, I want engaging and fun bow and magic combat like Horizon or like bending, I want to upgrade armor, I want to have upgrade systems for my skills like if I use a katana a bunch I get better with katanas and unlock stuff. I want pickpocketting and a cool as city to sneak around in. I want less bosses behind fog walls so thag sneaking can be a viable playstyle.
All that is most important to me in the evolution of the souls style. I dont want minor changes, playing it safe, I really want them to grow the capacity of the gameplay to be more rewarding and more rpg and have better combat

ngl I feel like you're just recklessly shoving Skyrim into Soulsborne, and not caring for any issues that will arise, because yes what you described is basically Skyrim. Both series are fundamentally different, with Skyrim being more of a "do-whatever-you-want" type of RPG, which is it's own fun (and this is coming from the guy who's hyped about Skyblivion 2025 babyyyy)
Meanwhile, FS's game design is all about balancing difficulty and challenging the player's skill. About methodically managing your stamina and your consumables to advance to the next bonfire. That you beat the boss not beause you overlevelled them (since enemies still hit like a truck), but because of your knowledge of the boss's attacks and your improvement of the game's mechanics.
and wtf do you mean about FS playing it safe?? DS2 brought so many new weapons and weapon types into the mix. Bloodborne turned up the combat by fucking 11 making fights faster and more aggressive. Hell, Sekiro completely ditched the stamina bar and introduced the sick-as-fuck rhythm-game parry mechanic.
It's not that they're not evolving, they are, just in the direction that would improve that core experience. And I would rather have a smaller, more compact game rather than being "as wide as the ocean but as deep as a puddle".
so yeah 7.8/10 it has a little skyrim for everyone

@@zeoplayz8021 I'm not a big Skyrim fan so I wasn't thinking in that direction but I understand how you see that. I also said I'd rather a smaller open-world that is dense, so we agree on that.
I do think adding in dimensions such as climbing and swimming would offer a challenge in balance, but I believe it is for the better and that Fromsoft has what it takes to do that. Some of the reasons I think that are the fact that Sekiro was very successful with its movement mechanics and I honestly feel the way they are creating intense and quick bosses like Rellana and Radhan show that we have room for the player-character to have greater abilities. I also think some of the open world bosses or large arena bosses have been stellar so having more of that wouldn't be an issue.
Some people just like solid gameplay, but I like progression systems, and with the Scadutree fragments and end-game of Elden Ring, I am not alone in feeling like Fromsoft is not fully understanding proper reward, and to be fair I still think they do it better than most devs, but that there is obvious and uncomplicated room for improvement.
Yes, From has always been innovating, and growing their series, but to me the growth is slow and doesn't blow my mind. They have such a solid structure and gameplay loop that I appreciate the little improvements and their games are earnestly my favorite games, but to me all the things you mentioned are not evolutions in the way I am using the word.
I mean to imply big innovative changes in comparison both to other RPGS/great games and their own formula. Sekiro had the biggest changes, but also removed too many things for me. It was less of an evolution and more of a different species.
Elden Ring improved, but adding jump isn't really revolutionary, and the open-world is my fav open-world, but it is also not some mind-blowing thing. I do think they play it safe, I don't think that is solely a bad thing since they make my favorite games, but I want another big step-up personally, not a side-step like sekiro and armored core, and not slight improvements or tweaks on their system.
It is apparent that you disagree with me, and that is chill, we all like different things. I simply feel that Fromsoft is one of the stronger candidates to evolve the art of gaming, as they already have and now they own more resources than ever before.
I have my philosophies about games and what is valuable and what is not (implied subjectivity), and for me thigns like combat, movement, exploration, interacting with the world, and growing/progressing are the most immersive and enjoyable things, and From gets some of these better than most games, but still has a lot of improvement. Movement can be slow, a lack of swimming and climbing is a little unimmersive for me, and having all these other gameplay options like stealth, archery, but they are obviously not as functional as melee create a feeling of incompleteness in my eyes. I also think the lack of any sort of friendly village and having everything be dark, decaying, decrepit is simply getting old and some brightness would add valuable flair to the game. The fact that Elden Ring has some more beautiful, enchanting vistas aided in the quality imo.

sure fair enough, we all have our opinions on what FS's goals should be. For me personally, their games have always heavily leaned into the *action* of action RPG's games, which makes stuff like pickpocketing and sneaking behind bosses so jarring.
Who knows tho? People were skeptical about the open-world aspect of Elden Ring and assumed that Fromsoft was just chasing trends, and look where we are now. All of us can just hope that the success of Elden Ring won't change their creative drive and that their creative visions go uncompromised.
Lastly, in terms of the whole "bright fantasy" aesthetic (I am assuming that you were talking about traditional high-fantasy artstyles: elves, dwarves, etc.), there's an interview of Miyazaki that's close to what I feel about the tone of their games.
"Personally, a world that is happy and bright is something that just doesn’t feel realistic to me," Miyazaki said in an interview with IGN.
In the end tho, me and Miyazaki's opinions are just subjective, and we are all free to our own opniions.
so yeah 4/10 too much souls

@@zeoplayz8021 Thank you for your response, I like what I am reading. I may not have communicated my feelings well, because I definitely want the action aspect to get ramped up: I want combos, bending, greater diversity and increased options via increased movement possibilities. It is mainly for the gameplay loop that I want the things I said, and less for pickpocketing.
For the bright fantasy, I just want a little more, not full on Avalon necessarily. I agree that a couple little villages or towns within an intense world is cooler than a bunch of copy-paste cookie-cutter villages that we have seen in a million jrpgs, mmos, etc. The reason for this is also to enhance the gameplay, exploration and the increased materials they are putting in the game.
I like how many more weapons, items and crafting there is in ER, but so much of it goes unused in most of my playthroughs (and i have gone through ER like 9 times), and I just feel something more akin to a village, or two, would implement an economy into the game that I honestly feel would balance it if it is going to have this much stuff.
In the end, From could make a total gruesome horror aRPG, and I guarantee i'd love it more than most games in existence, just because this is my favorite formula. I feel that with the directions they are going with ER, the DLC, sekiro and even Armored Core (I know that's not Miyazaki), I feel some of the things I have mentioned would balance the gameplay. I think there is a reason there are so many flashy, combo-y mods on nexus, and multiple that improve bows, stealth attacks, add deflects, add alternate progression systems and so on, and that is because some of these things balance the game. We have Sekiro level bosses in terms of speed, weapon reach, movesets, and our character is more akin to DS3 than Sekiro in terms of movement. I think diving into increased movement potentials, combos, and improved alternate playstyles would only serve them.

i want them to make sure the control scheme is 100% this time. stuff like dodge and sprint on the same button is bad (because dodge has a delay due to being on release).
in general the technical side of fromsoft's games could do with some work, stuff like adding fsr, ultawide, higher fps, stuff that maybe you don't use, but people do.
