I am so impressed with the Lightburn Software team. These are obviously dedicated people who seem to do a lot with a relatively small team. Being retired from a large tech company with technical software, I know from where I speak. Thanks for your contribution to this community!
Awesome! 👍 Thanks for watching!
I stumbled across your vid and it was perfect timing, I bought my light burn today to avoid the hike, thanks.
Glad I could help!
LightBurn is a GREAT software! When I buy a laser, it MUST be LightBurn-compatible.
Most nowadays are due to the demand, not all, but most.
Still the best bang for your buck software. The new features released this year are awesome. Congrats on your hat- trick 🏆
Thanks David!
Thank you I just ordered mine tonight.
Awesome! 👍 Thanks for watching!
Enjoy your channel. Good tips. Ive been using g-code controller with a co2 laser. The laser is DIY and I planned to buy a dsp but they are $$$. I have a bad back and designed the laser to weigh less than 35 lb (15.9Kg). The g-code controller works good for cutting but not for engraving.
I don't have any issues with the Gcode controllers and engraving Steve.
Thank you so much. That just saved me $80.
Glad I could help!
I have my first 3 lasers arriving in a few weeks so hadn't bothered buying Lightburn yet. Thanks to your vid making me aware of the upcoming price changes, I was able to quickly purchase the DSP license (CAD165) which should be upgraded to the new "Pro" license for free tomorrow(Oct 1). So just wanted to say thanks, you saved me around CAD120 !
Glad I could help!
Thanks for the reminder. Just activated.
Awesome! 👍 Thanks for watching!
Renewed last night!
Edit: Still a bargain. I can't really express how grateful I am that those guys are still kickin' ass and taking names. They've been underpriced for years.
Awesome! 👍 Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the simple explanation. As per your usual, outstandingly done. The new pricing sounds very reasonable and fair.
One question, will I need to purchase pro and basic if I have a diode & CO2 laser?
Thanks again for your diligence.
No, the pro version is for every laser they support. Basic is just for diode lasers or machines that use Gcode.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Thank you Larry!
Thanks for the info, Rich. I currently have 2 diode lasers (a Roly from the first giveaway at The Laser Maker's Realm) and I will be purchasing a CO2/fiber laser. I wonder how that will be affecting a license renewal.
@@dannogriggs4603 basically same question. I have a diode laser currently on lb 1.7, just bought a CO2 and in the process of setting it up. So would the light burn pro cover both?
You'll have to upgrade to the Pro license for the new lasers.
Just renewed a few days ago. Still a pretty good deal.
It's the best software deal available today Karl!
Must check when my licence is up, but if not, can we buy it again before the date runs out ?
Yes Simon, renewals for existing customers stay the same.
Are they going to add for 2.5d galvo machines?
I can only tell you what they have done already, not future features.
I just purchased a WeCreat Vision 40 w, so I went out this morning and purchased the LightBurn program. It is 1 Oct 2024 and they only charged me $60 plus tax.. Apparently I got in under the wire and i got ver 1.7. Now to set up everthing and get to burnin...
Awesome Richard! I'll bet they're working on updating the website.
I love lightburn !! i use it for so much more then lasers, the software is almost as great as Illustrator :-) if they make it 250,00 i still would love to pay it. and all my lasers are Lightburn compatible
Agreed!!
That is an insane price hike. The dsp users are paying now also for the galvo users. Considering the users who have just bought a chinese 50w laser with a ruida controller the price hike is a significant difference to buy lightburn. Also reading about loosing linux support. So you get less for more. I mostly read about existing users who bought it "cheap" But after the trial ends the get in price is way too high for a dsp user.
If you compare Lightburn to any other software program, especially CNC software, it's still a bargain for what it is. Almost all other software requires a yearly or monthly, or both purchase. The advancements in the software and staff absolutely justify the price increase. It's the best software on the market for laser cutters even if they tripled the price.
Sorry for the stupid question. I ordered the OMTech pro 2440 which lightburn should I get?
lightburnsoftware.com/products/lightburn-pro
Just bought my license for $60. Good decision right?
Hey, what is that song at the end?
Yup! I wrote the song.
Yes it is more expensive than when it first started but it is WAY more capable than when it first started. I'm just a hobbyist but I still think it has one of the best bang for the buck ratios of all the software I own.
Especially when compared to other CNC software, ranging from $600 to $4000, plus a monthly fee Terry!
Great video from you but what if you are still using the free trail and has been doing so for months now? That's right I keep getting the free trail so I'll just click on the box and keep using the software until the end than another freebie pops up.
Time to buy it before the price increase!
My license is up in 32 days. I went to the LB site to renew the license and found that for the first time ever (I checked previous invoices), they are applying sales tax now. The problem is that in California, where I'm located, intangible software licenses (those delivered electronically and not an a CD/DVD) are non-taxable. I'm now waiting for them to fix this issue.
They'll fix it for you. support@lightburnsoftware.com
I've had Lightburn for a few years now and the updates just appear in pop ups. I don't know if I'm paying for them somehow or what. When I purchased my version it was $120 I believe. How can I check on all of this?
There is a license portal where you can manage your license and add up to 3 computers:
lightburnsoftware.com/pages/manage-license
So I bought mine 3 years ago I think roughly. I've repurchased the year of updates every time it came up for renewal. Just to verify i don't need to repurchase anything besides the renewals as ive been doing? I have a c02 and a diode
Nope, you're good!
I purchased lightburn as an add on with my polar in April 2024. I think I paid over £100 so not sure what I have get updates. How do I upgrade if I need to?? 😊
Click Help --> Check for Updates
Lightburn is literally the only software that is absolutely worth it. It's been way under priced for years.
Agreed Steve!
Hi Rich, so if I got lightburn included with my Omtech co2 laser, about a year ago, will that work with a diode laser too? Thanks
Yes it will!
can you please do a video on setup with lightburn with a xtool f1 ultra i can not find any
thanks
I don't have an F1.
Ouch!! We knew it was coming... Even rarer updates now I guess?.... Ouch... 😞
No, there are more updates than ever. They now have over a half dozen Devs all over the world working on improvements and bug fixes.
Sorry, I meant users will update less frequently because of the price. It's getting pricey!
It's only once a year if you choose to. Or you can wait and not update unless you see new tools you want. There is no requirement to use the update service. Buy it once, use it for life.
This is exactly what I am doing, and I am still on v.1.4, "stretching" the license. Once I start using LB more regularly, I will likely take the pill and update, but for now, the new features are just of educational value (very good to be on top of things - thanks for your videos).
Would like lightburn license that covers diode and galvo lasers for one price.
That would be the new Pro version! The Co2 and Galvo have always covered the diode.
If you get the CO2 now (before Oct 1) for $119 it will be upgraded to the PRO which covers all 3 types (value of $199). You only have a few hours to do it though
Hey good video, my only comment for the new price : be honest it is mostly big downside price for us users..
Take scenario : new one cost 100$ ( vs 60$) every year you pay renew 45$ 2nd year , 3rd year 40$ total for 3 years = 185$ huge cost . but in the end this is commercial and only if there will be other great software will on the market they will be reduced . this is my 2 cents. :-)
When you compare it against other CNC software ranging from $600 to $3000, $100 is a bargain.
This is the best software for the money hands down
i would pay even more
Me too! It's worth every penny! 👍
OK, I am very confused. I purchased LB in the “dark deep past”. This might be the wrong place to say this, but I have always received updates including the most recent update, and I have never needed to purchase anything other than the original purchase. If my failing memory recalls correctly, I paid about $60 or $70 for it.
You get 14 months of the update service from the day you purchased it included. After that, you'll need to buy the update service at a discount. If you don't ever update, the software works for as long as you own it.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy That may be the situation now. But as I am saying, I paid for Lightburn once years ago. I have been given every opportunity to download an update (and I have picked up many of them). But I have never been asked for payments along the way.
I guess that's a blessing Philip! 👍 I think if you bought during the V 0.xx it didn't have fees to upgrade, maybe.
Rich, bought licence a while ago. just downloaded 1.7 update do I need to send lightburn money? Still having trouble with my Move tab
Not if your subscription to updates is still active Jim.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy light burn came through. My move tab problem fixed. 👏😁
Great!
Man the new update jsut isnt working on my computer crashed liked 5 times so far andwastedd like 2 coins and a sheet of brass. what have they done to it anyone else having this issue?
Email support@lightburnsoftware.com but make sure you give them a lot more details of what the problem is.
If i have the galvo licence does that give me the gcode licence also with the pro version? or would I have to buy the gcode version againie the upgrade for my other diode lasers? if you understand me ?
No, the Galvo turns into the pro. It works on all machines.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy thank you no i had to reneww the licence for it to work with he galvo witch I previously bought last month but the basic code version was out of date so I renewed that licence and re downloaded the 1.7 patch and installed it crashed first time but then re booted and it worked but I never touched the PC at all or worked on anything else will re test tomorrow with me playing games browsing or working on other files etc to see if it crashes and report back .
I probably won't see the comment.
It's a shame that Lightburn is dropping support for Linux, this makes it unusable for me and many others. Please note this before purchasing a license.
It makes sense since Linux is about 1% of the client base, and more than 10% of the support tickets and Dev workload. There are just too many distros to keep up with. Lots of folks are asking to keep support for at least Ubuntu, but there's no telling what they will do. I do know there were some updates in 1.7 for Linux, so they've not abandoned it completely yet. The good news is Paul, only the update service is affected. The copy you bought and use will work forever...
Y'all makes it simple. BUT $39.00 increase for the $60 product.? Suck for new users.
$99 for software is a bargain. They had it priced too cheap and never increased it in over 4 years. Compare it to any other control CNC software.
The last 5 years I have only paid $40 per year.
And that will not change.
So disappointed they dropped support for linux.
As I understand it, it was only 1% of the customer base, but 25% of the support time. The good thing is, the version you do have will work forever.
Moin Rich 👍👍🤟😇
👍
RIP LB, RD works just gained more users
😀 Not in your wildest imagination! You get what you pay for!
RD is truly horrible. It's like a time travel to the 1990's. Yes you can do some of the things Lightburn offers, but in such a mindboglingly user-hostile manner.
Agreed! 👍
Thank goodness they never went the way of 'Subscription based'
Only updates are subscription based. You own the "base" software that you initially purchased. If you don't purchase any further updates, they don't suspend your license and make the software non-functional... Unlike what Adobe does!!! 😬
@@fookingsog That's what I meant, I bought LB years ago and update each time.
One of the easiest most intuitive software I've ever used. Well worth the price
Agreed!!
They are an example of a fair company, similar to Blackmagic Design, the developer of DaVinci Resolve (video editor). The success of these companies should incentivize others to follow suit, so support them with your purchases!
