I was there. Whole crowd felt like they witnessed something special - never had the same feeling at a gig ever again. Shook his hand after and I remember his handshake being very soft, guy must have been exhausted but he said hello to every single person!
Because Jimi used his whammy bar instead of moving the block with his fingers, and Jimi bent the strings behind the nut pretty often… a lot of guitarists do that,
Awesome stuff!! A wonderful tribute and a total celebration of that most beautiful of instruments..the electric guitar!! Just as it should be...wild, free and above all FUN!!! Thanks for sharing :-)
To be honest ive never heard of this geezer. was reading this months guitarist magazine and read about him and thought id look on here. and hey im fucking gobsmacked nice recording to. thanks for sharing.
Yes ! great sound and playing!. what many people don't realice is that Jimi not only guitar player was an outstanding singer with a magic voice tone. IMO. Voodoo Chile without singing, has not too much sense something is missing
I cant believe how much disrespect Dan is getting. It’s just one song that every blues guitarist plays and should play. It’s a masterpiece. Some of you guys probably have never touched a guitar in your life. Give Dan some more respect. Dan is an incredible player. God Bless you guys🥰
Other than SRV - Dan is the only other guitarist I’ve ever seen carry the essence of Voodoo Child along with the music!!!!!! Jimi would approve! Too many watered down versions of this son out there!!!!!!
As previously stated by others the drummer does a great jib off playing off him and complimenting him. More intensity means more volume means less attention to the soloist. Also the drummer matches Dans dynamics quite well throughout the whole performance. Maybe use headphones?
I need some fquing guidance. Is it a spicy chile or a child? Im confused after 20 years of guitar playing. By the way, sound guy volume up those chops!!!
Jesse Wahab I agreed with saturn. We know there's a whammy bar, but why grab the block from the back? Drugs. I take my bar out when my guitar is in the case, and often don't put it on right away when I take it out but then I grab behind the saddles, never considered the block. Nut then again my guitar faces forward when I play it.
Mark Durante You can get some cool feedback sounds but your gonna be way outta tune(like he was). It was a cool thing for the apex of the Jam though, and he was working the wah, feedback, pinching the shit outta that old Strat. I read a few times that Hendrix used the same technique in the studio for some of the wild sounds on "Third Stone From The Sun".
Wow. This can be compared to Hendrix. He understands the essence of Jimi and it flows through his veins, out of his hands... :) Seldom the covers of Hendrix do justice to the originals.
He was great when he came back from the states after the floods, now he is simply making a fucking noise, it becomes so repetitive I want to plug my ears, this is not music, it’s just how many sounds can you get out of a guitar in 13 mins
Adis Veletanlic totally disagree but that's your opinion and you're allowed that. All I'm saying is that if you see this man live, it will hurt your feelings.
This guy has been popping up on my UA-cam feed the past couple of weeks. Not impressed at all. Vibrato is all over the place and too many tricks......just my opinion
the dude's pulling out way too many tricks on that guitar!!just play the damn thing and give us the tone and music instead of all that shitty tricks!!!i'm not saying he plays bad but he is just overdoing his lil tricks!
TheUchiha dude honestly, I live in Cape Town so have seen him more than once and it's an experience. Judging from a UA-cam video doesn't justify what a monster player this man is!
Jimi wrote Voodoo Child 50 years ago.. musicians will still be doing it 150 years from now.. absolutely timeless..
Pl
It's okay. It's no tornado of souls.
word on the street says that strat is still in councelling to this day
Not many people would do all that to a '62 Strat... but i'm damn glad this man does. Stellar.
I've got a 62 replica and that c shaped neck with jumbo frets is just askin' for it bro
I really like your style you put your heart and soul into it. We need jams like this more often.
I was there. Whole crowd felt like they witnessed something special - never had the same feeling at a gig ever again. Shook his hand after and I remember his handshake being very soft, guy must have been exhausted but he said hello to every single person!
Love to see him making it his own. Always gets my respect.
Astonishing! He does things even Jimi didn't do! No wonder his Strat looks like that!
Because Jimi used his whammy bar instead of moving the block with his fingers, and Jimi bent the strings behind the nut pretty often… a lot of guitarists do that,
he's sweating but still in the scarf, truly a hero of the modern era.
or a slave to his outfit.
Or tryin to emulate his hero: SRV
At least he is not wearing sunglasses.
That pure raw emotion and feel is a beautiful thing.
I was there, it was amazing!!
Asher G. Alexander me too!!
become a fan bcos of 9:22 onward. That’s f*king awesome. such a legend performance. He needs more views.
Wow, he is out of this world.
I keep coming back to this video. Wow!
Awesome stuff!! A wonderful tribute and a total celebration of that most beautiful of instruments..the electric guitar!! Just as it should be...wild, free and above all FUN!!! Thanks for sharing :-)
i saw in in Lusaka several years ago. one hell of a night. i wish could find any of his music in the states
A new sweep at it from Dan Patlansky. He owns it.
4:11 That pickless, hammer on, legato stuff? He's playing on a hybrid 12 /13s set.
enjoying the guitar is the best that you can do!
Amazing... You are a legend!!!
To be honest ive never heard of this geezer. was reading this months guitarist magazine and read about him and thought id look on here. and hey im fucking gobsmacked nice recording to. thanks for sharing.
Blown me away 🤟
Its all about tone, and he has it ! Z amps are great, and he is a fantastic player! Killer
Great clean tones
Saw this guy at Oppikoppi years ago. Spellbinding.
And a gentleman.... Good South African export...thanks.
Yes ! great sound and playing!.
what many people don't realice is that Jimi not only guitar player was an outstanding singer with a magic voice tone. IMO. Voodoo Chile without singing, has not too much sense something is missing
crazy dope
pretty neat, pretty neat; pretty good, pretty good - love the cleaner tone
awesome player!!
Good thing your name is Satriani if this guy is opening for you!
Damn I think I saw smoke rolling off that fucking guitar at one point! Nicely done!
0:24 Five ways Strat switch for sale ... 🤪🤪🤪👍👍👍
I think I’m in love.
Nice job!
I cant believe how much disrespect Dan is getting. It’s just one song that every blues guitarist plays and should play. It’s a masterpiece. Some of you guys probably have never touched a guitar in your life. Give Dan some more respect. Dan is an incredible player. God Bless you guys🥰
That drummer plays off him very well. Adds a whole other dimension to his playing. Sneaky.
Probably the best rendition I've ever heard. The complete masterpiece. Sjoe.
if you like Voodoo child listen to steve edmonds (Voodoo child and little wing) on mail.ru
not really, but listen to Eric Gales and Stace
Eric Gales is a monster blues player!!
listen to hendrix full stop
Damn!
He pulls a good Prince face every now and then.
ur solo my worship
boss man he can play.
Holy smoke
Awesome. Jimi would be proud.
banged up guitars was all the rage after SRV. It's supposed to show how much you played it or wore it out. Not true in most cases.
when u coming to St.louis mo.!!!
if he comes to the states im there
I didn't know Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers could play guitar .
I was thinking Zachary Levi but Rodgers made me laugh!
Man if that fender could talk....oh wait it just did!
Actually, the Strat got water damaged in Hurricane Katrina back in 2005.
sure bud, thats total bs
Wasn't this Strat. This one is a custom shop. It was his red 62.
I was there, one of the best gig ever. Silence Thieves are still making my playlists. Don't like he's new album though.
Total Hendrix!!👏👏👏👍👍🎸🎸👊👊💥💥💥
Truly great performance!
Other than SRV - Dan is the only other guitarist I’ve ever seen carry the essence of Voodoo Child along with the music!!!!!! Jimi would approve! Too many watered down versions of this son out there!!!!!!
HazardSports Check out Eric Gales, he pulls the spirit down too!
Most of the up and comings think they need to find an oddball way to play guitar. Forget it, you'll never be Jimi
He needs a better drummer that matches his intensity,..imo
As previously stated by others the drummer does a great jib off playing off him and complimenting him. More intensity means more volume means less attention to the soloist. Also the drummer matches Dans dynamics quite well throughout the whole performance. Maybe use headphones?
WTF is this sorcery?? 10:30
Doruk Gezici It was a pretty cool finale. What I like best about his style of playing is that he cranks the gain so he can play with the feedback.
Some above the nut magic
Manditory scarf to prevent a chill mid sweat.
why is his speaker not facing the crowd?
Cause of the volume. He explains that in his strat techniques video.
Nice guitar face
9.32..the clitocaster.
RIP pickup selector switch
I need some fquing guidance. Is it a spicy chile or a child? Im confused after 20 years of guitar playing. By the way, sound guy volume up those chops!!!
...I was told specifically,... Dan's version was "Chile"...
This should be Voodoo Child (Slight Return) if I’m not mistaken, Voodoo Chile is a slow blues (that I prefer) but is nothing like this
Look like the Borderline hasn’t updated their stage lighting since 69.
...it had a complete refit recently,... fab venue now! ...you'll see in some of my more recent videos...
Proper Face melter! Great evening
holy moly he gives john mayer a run for his money...
Jeff Harper not quite
Dan!!! Unfuckingreal!!! Briliiant! A true pleasure to watch. Cheers!
nice trick with the middle finger tho
This isn't Voodoo Chile. This is Voodoo Child.
Two different songs
9:30 You need drugs to ever think of that ...
There's literally a tool called a whammy bar on the front of his guitar to do exactly that; Leo Fender thought of it a long time ago!
Jesse Wahab I agreed with saturn. We know there's a whammy bar, but why grab the block from the back? Drugs. I take my bar out when my guitar is in the case, and often don't put it on right away when I take it out but then I grab behind the saddles, never considered the block. Nut then again my guitar faces forward when I play it.

its voodoo child not voodoo chile
...if you ever bump into Dan at a gig ask him... Chile or Child?
omegalast800 hahah ok
actually is it chile according to hendrix
Zach Levi's guitar doppleganger!
But this song has words, though...
Wow. This can be compared to Hendrix. He understands the essence of Jimi and it flows through his veins, out of his hands... :) Seldom the covers of Hendrix do justice to the originals.
Great Dan ,but only instrumental wtf.
i like it but i don't like the fact you don't see the bass player and hardly the drummer; rock music is nothing without them
Wait till he finds out what a Floyd Rose is hahaha
Christ... where would rock n roll be without feedback? DG
Don’t take the Lord’s name in vain🥰🥰🥰
swansong rotherham voodoo chile
This is not Voodoo Chile .
Which stupid can vote this fantastic, really great, sympathic guitarist, bad?
Yes let's just keep copying SRV's face.
. Good guitarist. But missed the mark on this one. Didn't take me on the Voodoo Chile Journey.
He was great when he came back from the states after the floods, now he is simply making a fucking noise, it becomes so repetitive I want to plug my ears, this is not music, it’s just how many sounds can you get out of a guitar in 13 mins
SRV do it better 😁, but he's superhuman.
And Dan is a great human guitarist !
it got so out of tune lol
Great guitar player. I think some heavy psychedelics would help him though.
this is Hendrix most easy song to play on any guitar
Ron Bosek ...yes, but only SRV sounds good when playing it...
Ron Bosek what's you're point.can you do better than this.Dan Patlansky is top of his game.
yes most easy to play badly only hendrix could play this correctly
more hendrix shill... cool faces though
He's an all-around amazing player but his vibrato is horrible
Nonsense ..
totally
Adis Veletanlic totally disagree but that's your opinion and you're allowed that. All I'm saying is that if you see this man live, it will hurt your feelings.
Can't get behind Dan, great technician no doubt, but something seems forced about his playing.
Zack Wiesinger's version completely slays this by a very long chalk
Really good player, but how much more Hendrix copycuting can we really take??!!!
tbh these kinds of players are dying out and now everyone is just a shred head.
Frank playing Jimi
Andres Pinto more than you I guess
Yuck...
This guy has been popping up on my UA-cam feed the past couple of weeks. Not impressed at all. Vibrato is all over the place and too many tricks......just my opinion
B C then don’t watch... go listen to Kanye West
Why do Voodoo child? Its been covered to death! This is boring..
westafoolaway urbantheking I’ve watched a lot of versions of this song and still enjoyed this video. That’s why.
westafoolaway urbantheking why are you here LOL
infoowetrust Because im the greatest guitar player of all time and why do you even excist? You see how stupid your question is.
...it's "Chile"... not Child...
CHILE its for hot sauce,,,,
the dude's pulling out way too many tricks on that guitar!!just play the damn thing and give us the tone and music instead of all that shitty tricks!!!i'm not saying he plays bad but he is just overdoing his lil tricks!
...I think it's called "showmanship",.. post a vid' of your "lil tricks" whenever you feel like it...
TheUchiha dude honestly, I live in Cape Town so have seen him more than once and it's an experience. Judging from a UA-cam video doesn't justify what a monster player this man is!
I really like your style you put your heart and soul into it. We need jams like this more often.
