      @@allennoble9261 credit cards can get a Court judgement against you but cannot garnish your SS or pension so depending on how much money you have they may be able to go after your earnings. Most won't sue unless it is a high dollar amount over 10K or 15K. It usually isn't even the credit card company they just write it off and report it as income to the IRS but companies buy these debts for pennies on the dollar and then sue.

    A piece of advice that I've learned. If your debt is turned over to a collection agency never ever pick up the phone or respond to any letter from a collection agency. They may be able to keep calling you or sending letters but as long as you don't answer the debt does not have to be paid. After 7 years it'll go off your record.

    It honestly seems there are so many greedy business people. I had to go to the dentist, he knew of my problems in the last year, and that I have no money. He charged me $4000 for two cavities and a cleaning..

    I constantly see in social media that people under 30 have this strange idea that Seniors are just sitting around with huge bank accounts. My Dad is 81, he was a "contract employee" when he was told he didn't need to come to work the next day. No cake, no gold watch , absolutely no severance - just "you're 65, bye!'
    My parents live on their social security. It's terrifying. I've been disabled for 28 years and can't work. We've always wanted to do the right thing, pay the bills, but they have been scammed, Mom always handled the money and she has Alzheimer's.
    It is sickening that these good, hard working people who really could use help (someone to clean twice a month? No money for that), but I have no idea how to get that for them.
    Seniors deserve respect, not harassment. Thanks for this, I'll look at the website.

All of our credit is basically in his name and he's worried about losing our Good Credit Rating, as well as the fact that he has to go for frequent check-ups because of the cancer, or because it's left him with issues he may incur more medical bills while we're struggling to pay all the ones we already have because of the cancer. MOST of these 'Debts' involves incorrect MEDICAL Debts, from OVERCHARGES.

    • @freedomforever1962
      @freedomforever1962 3 роки тому +14

      That's true! Remember you can request a copy of your credit report from the three agencies. You can dispute any thing on your report/s. Having those debts removed can even raise your credit score.

    • @Chimonger1
      @Chimonger1 3 роки тому +18

      The tricky bit, is getting accurate records copies from providers. ESPECIALLY if you entered the care system via the emergency room. One must literally request an itemized billing--most never give you those. THEN, you need to scrutinize the billings, and QUESTION any items you think don't belong.
      That might need sitting with a hospital social worker or nurse or billing office, to explain the items on the bill to you. THEN you have to fill out a form to contest the wrong items, and request they be removed.
      Pitfalls of this: The providers KNOW they can easily buffalo patients and their families. It happens ALL THE TIME, pretty much everywhere I've ever worked, in 2 States, and heard plenty from others who've worked in other States.
      --> OFTEN, records are lies, both flagrant and of omission....not only of what was done, but what supplies got charged to your bill.
      --> WORSE...if you experience an adverse reaction to any treatment, those are mostly NOT charted, UNLESS they cannot avoid it.
      Most patients and their families are CLUELESS of adverse reactions.
      Most, IF they are charted, are made to appear as entirely different "problems", given Diagnosis Codes making SYMPTOMS into stand-alone diagnoses of their own--which is very wrong---but that is one big reason why healthcare has become so derailed from healing.
      That applies to at least the last 40 years of vaccine adverse reactions, drug or other treatment reactions whether in or out of a hospital or office.
      Then there's all that split billing from individual providers.
      [lost typing due to gargle glitch]
      The USA is one of THE MOST COSTLY countries to live in, specifically for health care of any kind. Medicines, surgeries, treatments, everything, is charged at the highest prices.
      INSURANCE industries and PHARMA industries, have made the US healthcare system what it is: extremely, unrealistically costly, and,
      got laws passed long ago, limiting Docs to only diagnosing, not curing. No one can legally claim they have cured anything.
      Docs are legally restricted to use only "poison, cut, burn" [drugs, surgery, radiation]. The reference books for Diagnoses codes, and for drugs, have grown exponentially in size, more because Pharma has made a huge business of reinventing thousands of Symptoms, into stand-alone "Disease", because they have invented drugs for those. And medical devices. etc.
      The feedback loops that determine how much, and when, prices get raised, is truly Machiavellian. Kinda like Tax laws.

Most of her expenses are medical related. She was so close to being denied chemo a couple years ago. She makes about $100 dollars too much to qualify for the states Medicaid as a secondary insurance. She has had several falls, broken bones, surgery and therapy. Therapy a couple times a week is so expensive. I do pay her medical portion but this is good information to know . Thank you.

    After a terrible 2022, shell-shocked financial backers have a lot to think about and losses to recover from. An expansion report and a wealth of other data did little to alter assumptions that the Central bank would likely keep raising interest rates regardless of whether the economy slows down. I'm currently at a crossroads deciding whether to exchange my $250k security/stock portfolio; how might the continuous market volatility work to my advantage?

    They need to make a law that collection agencies can’t sell your account. I have credited card companies sending nasty letters to get me to pay for my deceased father’s credit cards. Fortunately I know I’m not responsible. My Dad had no estate, he lived me, and no will and no executor. I received a small Life Insurance policy that paid for funeral expenses. They can’t take Life Insurance monies. So they’re sucking air and I file 13 all their corespondents.

It’s a tactic that they use to try to scare family into paying for their deceased parent’s debts. Not to worry it’s a waste of time on me. Like I said I file 13 everything they send. I suspect they will eventually stop sending. They even tried to say they could take “the” house to assume it was my Dad’s. No it’s my house in my name and they can’t touch it. It’s just very sad that there is so much dishonesty out there and there are some people that they can scare and intimidate into giving them money. Money that is legally not theirs.
