- Hi, Atheist Voice viewers! I've been working for a while now on a new book with my friend Camille. It's all about the intersection of the LGBTQ and atheist communities: Where they overlap, where the comparisons break down, how religion hurts (and helps!) LGBTQ people, and why atheists can't ignore this issue.

Seeing certain comments has led me to want to say the following...
Nobody said atheism had to be about identity politics. The point made was that if you are an atheist activist campaigning for things such as genuine separation of the church and state, then one of the common issues you will likely encounter is LGBT+ rights. The majority of arguments against LGBT+ people are religious in nature, and so should not be arguments a secular government uses to make decisions- yet they are. It's for this reason that many atheist activists take interest in LGBT+ rights. Nobody is saying if you're an atheist you have to campaign for LGBT+ rights: in this video they simply inviting you to explore the overlap between atheist activism and LGBT+ activism. If you don't care about that overlap then cool, you don't have to do anything. Nobody is forcing you to campaign for LGBT+ rights, nobody is trying to make atheism all about "identity politics" (which is not the same as LGBT+ rights and wasn't what the video was about), so there is no reason to complain.

Darel Halgarth. I believe a lot of objections regarding identity politics comes from the "+" in LGBT+. The problem is that LGBT rights have been co-opted by feminism, and, like the cancer it is, had a + grow without end on it. How many letters are now hidden behind that "+" ? and how many of them refer to empirically verifiable things ? and how many of those are just push for social engineering by law and not actual demands for equal rights ?

I never have a problem with LGBTQ. They're people just like me and deserve the same rights as straight people like me. I have a friend that's a transgender bisexual woman and she's one of the sweetest women I ever met.

Tuesday was my first high school marching game. When we were getting ready to play for the football team to come out, and the announcer came over the loudspeaker and says "let's pray" I live in the south, so everyone there bows their head and prays, and I just look around until its over. It felt weird. Is it legal for them to pray over the loudspeaker during football games?

Thank you for this video! One of the biggest reasons why i left my religion (islam) was due to me coming out as pansexual. It was a very hard step to take but as i studied deeper into the islamic world the more faults i found and i finally left it. Also Queer Disbelief is an awesomee book👏👏
Whenever someone thinks that separation of church and state also means that the morals of religious citizens should not be reflected in the democracy has no understanding of the United States democracy, the meaning of SCS, and the overarching legal morality involved. It's fine if you want to fight against a view but to claim it violates SCS is just foolish.

Another source you should look into is Anthony Venn Brown, a former Australian Pentecostal preacher who came out as gay and has written extensively about gay rights and Christianity. He has often said that you can choose your morality but not your sexuality. He runs an organization called Ambassadors and Bridge Builders International that works to educate the Christian church about LGBTQIA community in Australia.

As a atheist but small government social conservative (economically I'm progressive) I have many problems with group idenity tied with civil liberties when to me it should be a straight (no pun intended) connection to ones individuality and the ideas of freedom, liberty and justice.
Social justice of illiberal authoritarian progressives has no answer to anything that someone who thinks different than you and also thinks they know better than you except to dissuade, discredit, demonitize and deplatform.

I'm all for people having the right to live how they want to live & be happy. BUT! Where is the line drawn, when adults want to have sex with children & animals??? I mean, I've seen where people want to marry themselves, objects, etc. These laws are being passed to be with children, and that's quite disturbing.
Line is drawn with anyone who can't consent. Animals, children and objects can't consent. You can consent with yourself

We don't. Being an atheist is nothing more then a disbelief in a deity. However, based on what we know in neuroscience, it's most likely a function of the brain.
Human conscience is the product of the complexity of the human brain. If part of that brain is damaged - through injuries or disease -, mental faculties and the very personality of that person suffer. Or how do you explain the shifts in personality of stroke victims, if our soul is not a physical part of our body?
We should find a way to compromise.

Although I have family members who are *devoutly* Christian, and refuse to approve of my being homosexual, I also have family members who aren't religious, and who have no problem with me being gay.

If I try to plug a female plug to a wall outlet and even duck tape it. By doing this, there is no danger (no one is hurt), but it is not the right way. Likewise to human, the act of homosexual, no one is hurt but it is still not correct.

No doubt it's a good book, but these youngsters adopting the word "queer" has never set well with many of us who lived through the time when that was the gat "N-word" used to bash us. It has been too painful for many of us to "reclaim" the epithet and the very people who talk the talk about love, kindness, empathy and acceptance have never seemed to care about applying those values to those of us who are now seniors. Better if they'd waited until we all died off to start using that word-which was never a source of pain to themselves. Good book no doubt. But its cover is not inviting to me, and I don't want to spend money on something that will likely use that word throughout, and thus continually bring up negative feelings.

Sorry Hemant, Atheists can ignore the LGBT movement. Peoples sexuality has absolutely NOTHING to do with my lack of a belief in a god. And while I'm fine with people loving and marrying whoever they want, and if some guy suddenly decides he wants to be a girl or vice versa I may be accommodating to their requests depending on my relationship with them. But I certainly don't have to agree with the rest of the nonsense that comes with that community and when they attempt to legislate their nonsense I will actively oppose it. If someone wants to restrict their rights on religious grounds I will be right there at their defense, everything else they are required to meet the same level of evidence and reason for support I expect from anyone else. There has been an eruption of political BS under the LGBT banner that stands united just like religion against fact and freedom and I oppose them for the same reasons.

I can only hope the reply within this book is a reasoned and measured approach to helping this community with instances of 'actual' religious oppression. I would never claim they don't face any and I remain a staunch defender when they do. BUT Should it start digging into identity politics and declare I must accept LGBT theory "X" without any proof. I will find it just as wanting as any religious text

So I'll move on to question 2...We know very well that every good has an opposite...and so...we have light and darkness...good and bad...such is pure principle...applicable in all forms of life...answered? hehehe...So my friend...we have good and evil...and ultimately we decide which to engage more in....good...or evil...knowing fully well that they are both not without consequence.
Question 3...about creation of Satan....Well we could ask him (God). hehehe...but come to think of it....without evil...would we still even consider the need for God? Or would we feel that we were his equals or maybe even greater...people think of God when they're in trouble...imagine...if there was no trouble. Just a personal thought...nothing conclusive on this one.
Question 4...about gays....God loves everyone...he is without hate for his creation...he only hates their deeds...when God hates your deeds....he may not kill you...but he at most will deprive you of his presence...how many people feel is presence...truly?
