Yeah on paper - Project Sponsors--Project Team--Wider Team.. but there is so much to it. If doing it for the first time it's kind of chicken and egg situation and conceptualisation issues. During the project and or at delivery point it can become a friction and fall out with key employees. Ultimately when the ERP is rolled out there could be a debate - success vs failure; half full vs half empty... and the arguments on the matrix to measure those elements.

In my experience my view is that, to address the above, a consultant should be the one who has ground level knowledge of the industry and business and the ERP system being rolled out. He should be experienced and should know how things tick and fit. He'd bring himself in with his team, the best practices, the template or footprint that is tried and tested in similar organisations. And he should bring all on the table to buy-in once it is established that the system being rolled out shall meet the needs. I would not hire a consultant to just help an organisation with window shopping for an ERP system!

As a project manager you must make sure that the executive team are aligned. The project manager knows how to negotiate to reach alignment.
