If there's one thing I've learned over the years it's that Disney will never EVER charge $200 for a room if the public is willing and eager to pay $400.

Our last disney trip in December we paid about $278 a night for a water view at Cornado Springs, so 100% true if you want a comfortable stay. There was no where to sit, the bathroom was cramped and the kids weren't happy about the sleeping situation.

@@juliancain3872 - That water view "upgrade" with values and moderates is such a scam. Yeah, your one window is facing the water, but it's also facing the resort walkways. So more often than not, your curtains are going to be drawn.

@@p.o.frenchquarter Yeah it is a scam, it's close to the buses, and the gym but the nearest place to eat during covid was a small snack bar type that served burgers, it was a 30 minutes walk in total on top of being sore from the walks. I was on the verge of upgrading us to the destino tower... say I wonder if that's the plan. Man I forgot how hot florida was, but I thought it was gonna cool in December... it didn't. Many hotels are charging for parking. I work in the hospitality business, and am used to city hotels charging as they deal with a third party. But I had a booking at a company hotel in the suburbs, and they wanted to charge me $10 a day to park in their own lot. That added $50 to my stay. With resort fees and parking, stays are high anywhere.

Agreed. I loved the dining plan, extra hours, and having things sent to my room. The only reason to stay now is for the transportation to the parks and the view. The best Disney hotels cost over 3x the amount of other nearby rentals so you could actually stay a whole extra day to make up for the time you spend waiting. It honestly isn’t worth staying there when the rooms are so nice at many other nice resorts and rentals. Last time we went, we saved a ton of money getting groceries delivered and cooking our own breakfast meals.

We stay off property now too! We found a off property community with houses and condos about 5 mins from the park. Even with now paying to park, we still save so much money . We rent a 3 bed/ 2 bath condo , with full kitchen for 89$a night off VRBO!! And it’s so nice to come back at night to a quiet , non crowded, resort! As much as I love Disney, we will probably never stay on property again . Just too expensive!

Call me lazy but nkt havi g to deal with bags and transportation was the best part! And for us, Magical Express and was the kickoff to the whole vacation.
Checking those bags with their little Disney tags on them at your home airport and knowing that the next time you see them will be in your Disney hotel made it REAL!
And being able to go right from the gate to a special area just for Disney guests with a bus with big comfy seats waiting to whisk you off to your Disney hotel with the whole vibe of the excitement of the other passengers headed to the same place, and the little Disney world informational videos and old mickey cartoons playing in the TV monitors really made you feel the anticipation and like a VIP.
Not to mention, after spending all day traveling it was nice to not have to go through the hassle of finding your bags and finding a rideshare or cab.
The trip from The airport to WDW isn't going to be nearly as exciting in the back of an Uber.

We go at least once a year. Stopped staying on property when we realized that the “convenience” for the shuttle service wasn’t even that convenient. We have stayed at dozens of hotels within 10 minutes of the park and most offer a shuttle to the park at least twice a day. Our favorite place is the embassy suites. We got our last booking for 114/night. Compare the suite which includes a free breakfast, large double sized suite and many other amenities for half the price as Disney’s budget resort which more closely resembles laquinta

I loooove staying on property and being in that bubble, Kidani Village is my absolute favorite, but Disney is making it harder and harder to justify it. With magical express going away and the cost to stay at the resorts it’s hard for me to convince family and friends to book on property. Why pay 200 a night for what is essentially a basic motel style room at a value resort when you can have a four bedroom house with a huge private pool that’s only ten minutes from Disney’s gates? I can’t really sell it anymore lol.

Also guest were able to get fast pass reservations early which are not happening right now. So now with magical express leaving, no fast pass, dinning plans, and extra magic hours leaving it isn’t worth it. We are considering staying off property the next few trips this year, the free transportation to the parks is the only perk.

Brightline is promising the second half of 2023, which could mean as late as December. And that’s assuming there are no delays that might push it into 2024 or beyond. The train is definitely part of WDW’s plans to herd guests to Disney property, but the pretty large gap between the end of the program and when the first train passengers will arrive at Disney Springs is wide enough that I don’t think the train set the end date of ME. It seems more likely that their contract was up with Mears and ME was a convenient cost cutting line item for them.

It's worth going to see the Marvel land, Hogsmeade and Wizarding World of Harry Potter. I went in January last year and even though it was pretty cold, Diagon Alley was PACKED by 2 pm. Staying on site has always been my preferred option. However the cost has just gotten too much. Last stayed on site at art of animation and it was awesome to come home to mater outside my door every night but 400 at night, man o man. Recently got a whole house at Margarettaville resort for much less. Also have stayed at Orange lake Holiday inn resort. Really like that place, just never take the tour for their timeshare. Great balanced view on the current situation AJ. No benefit to staying on property right now and seems unlikely to change anytime soon. If Disney don't reinstate previous perks I can see them stuck with a huge number of rooms they cannot shift which may result in a last minute fire sale which probably won't benefit anyone outside of the US. Everyone else will have planned to stay elsewhere at a cheaper rate or decided not to visit Florida at all. It's going to be tough for Disney and the state losing hundreds of millions of tourist dollars.

We just left Orlando today. We stayed at the Windsor Hills Resort. Less than 10 minutes from Magic Kingdom. 3 BR 2 Bath condo with a great pool and splash park for 7 nights and paid less than $900 for 6 people. When we looked at how much a Disney Resort (essentially a glorified hotel room) would have cost us and it would have been over $3500 for the same period of time.

We always stay at a villa over the Disney hotels and don’t feel we ever miss out on anything important to us 🙌🏻🙌🏻x

Would you allow me to share my 6bedroom villa at Windsor hills resort?

As far as getting a shuttle to/from Disneyland, you can use public transportation to get there for a $5 day pass on weekdays. Unfortunately, one of the two lines you need to catch doesn't run on weekends.

We just got back and stayed at the Marriott Townplace Suites on Plam Parkway. It was great! The suites are all much larger than the tiny Disney rooms. I rather pay more to have more space. The parking is free. Paying for parking at Disney was fine because it was easy and convienent to drive ourselves. Our hotel was a few blocks away from Disney property. We had a large 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, full kitchen, living room, and dining room. There are smaller suites available. We did all Disney parks and Blizzard Beach; it was a quick drive to all.

I am 72 and The Magical Express and Luggage delivered to my room and on site airport check in made my trip do able. I think my Disney Days are done.

We always stay on property at the wilderness lodge. It’s very disappointing that the magical express is going away. We will have to use Mears in the future. We also utilize the internal bussing to go from one park to another. Renting a car can be a huge hassle, plus you now have to pay for parking, deal with traffic etc..For now, we are choosing to still stay on property, when we go at the end of this month.
