  • Disney World is full of many amazing things to buy, but they’re not all perfect. Some purchases can cause some huge regret, while others can just drive you nuts as you try to cram it into your suitcase at the end of your trip. Think twice before you pull out your credit card for this stuff.

    Disney balloon story time:
I was in line for the shuttle to the park one morning when a cast member was trying to keep us all preoccupied by asking disney related trivia questions and giving some small prizes. Long story short, I answered the last question and won a balloon. Exciting until you realize you're not even in the park yet and you are stuck with a balloon all day!!!
So I get on the shuttle, and I just so happen to be seated across a toddler boy and his mom and grandmother. He keeps pointing at the balloon and whispering to his mom. I offer them the balloon. They took it. I did a good deed, and I didn't have to carry a balloon around all day 😂

My family once went to Diseny and bought a souvenir popcorn bucket on the first day of our trip, it was great. We would pretty much keep it CONSTANTLY filled so we always had something to snack on. But we knew we wouldn't use it at home, so what did we do? We found a large family walking in to Magic Kingdom on our last day and were like "you're going to be here for a few more days, right? Here, have a popcorn bucket!"
Can we make this a thing? Can large families make a point to buy popcorn buckets and then donate them to other large families? Can we keep passing the same bucket along? Spread the love! Share the savings! Could also work with those refillable mugs, but since that goes in your mouth it's a little less sanitary (although bleach is a wonderful thing)

Doesn't have to be large families - I went solo, and on my last day passed on my popcorn bucket to a couple with two kids. That was pre-Cvid, mind you - if we really want to make this a thing, then let's include bringing a tiny bottle of dish soap and passing that along too! Little bottles are *super* cheap at the drugstore and we can just buy one and fill it, put it in a baggie, and toss it in a purse or park bag.

A note if you end up buying a Disney poncho: they can have a tendency to rip. If they do go to any store and tell the cashier that it ripped. They will replace it for free. My family had to buy emergency Disney ponchos and while we did pay way too much we've had about ten trips since and every time one of them rips we get a free replacement which has definitely made up for all the money we initially spent.

  • @Delcat42

The most satisfying purchase I have ever made at Disney cost pennies. Literally.
We went to Disneyland for the first time a few years back, and I happened to have a coin purse in my bag that was stuffed with years' worth of "pennies are technically money" saving I planned on getting pressed. I am 80,000 years old, and my sister was duly amused when we hit Main Street and I started plunking them into the vintage machines at the Penny Arcade--the old Pinocchio puppet and the kinetoscopes, all the vintage animation feels for genuinely one cent--but you don't stay long on Main Street your first day at the park, and they were forgotten for Fantasy Land fifteen minutes later.
The thing is, timing in Disney is crucial. It was the *last* day, when we were waiting around for the night show, that I realized three things: I still had about a buck's worth of unpressed pennies, I was surrounded by antsy kids who were struggling much harder to wait, and we were right next to the Emporium.
I asked my sister to save our place and skittered in. There were some kids running around, but none at the penny stations. I pulled out my change purse and started putting bits of it at each station--eight cents here, twelve cents there, just tossing coins down by the slots in "please use me" obviousness.
Kids noticed immediately. I did some go-ahead gesturing, and they started lining up. Kids are great at going "Hey look at this thing", and as I was heading out, they were heading in, interacting with these ancient machines that are of middling interest at best on your first day and all-consuming when you are in a state of "Mom, is it time for the fireworks NOW?". It was a happy, distracted swarm, and my sister told me later that there were relieved parents out there finally getting a rest.
The fireworks started not too long after that, and it was fantastic. I don't know and will never know what kind of lasting impact those impromptu pennies might have had, but one thing's absolutely for sure--it's the only place in Disney even a dude with the most limited of income can feel like a millionaire.
Be good to yourself, be good to kids, party on 🎉❤️🐧

When we went in July 2019- my daughter was 4 at the time. My parents bought her an Ariel Bubble Wand. It was one of the greatest purchases that week. She and my son loved it. We turned off the music in crowds. To be able to get smiles in pics the photographer said we need bubbles in this shot and it worked. In the parade - Ariel’s fish came up to her to get bubbles and Ariel waved at her. My daughter’s reaction and son were priceless. I would not be surprised that Disney did the same thing airports did after 9/11: they probably removed airport lockers to prevent people storing dangerous stuff in them like guns or grenades. That said, I've seen how Universal Studios offers locker service for riders on their rides, such as the one at Hogwarts Castle. Very convenient. Maybe Disney can learn from Universal Studios about convenience as applied to locker service.

I did something very similar. I planned how much I was willing to spend on the kids for souvenirs and then bought target Disney gift cards with the red card so I saved 5% off what I planned to spend....then I told the kids they could use the gift cards for anything they wanted on the trip. (I'd pay for food and rooms, etc, but the souvenirs would either be paid by them or the gift cards.) I also stated they could use the AP discount of 20%. This added a math factor to the entire experience. My daughter was able to come within 4 cents of the gift card value and got the two things she really wanted, instead of constantly asking me for things throughout the trip!

Suggestion: before DFB starts production on such a video, I recommend that you consider watching the HGTV show called "Cash in your Attic," which features a History Channel's "American Pickers"-like experience of having people enter a family's home and finding collectibles in your garage, closets, pantries, attics, and basements. Then the show's producers conduct public auctions with actual people bidding on the items, and the family receives the proceeds (the proceeds are probably net of the show's auctioneer fees and other cuts, such as commissions and sales taxes).

@@NicCanDance At least you can buy and take them aboard airplanes. Previously you couldn't do so because TSA considered them to be a prohibited item because it had liquid inside the things. In addition, the USPS didn't allow them to be shipped. Now, of course, both TSA and USPS have relaxed that restriction. Enjoy your snow globes, and I'll do the same for lapel pins. Although I no longer visit WDW, I still enjoy collecting pins wherever I travel; I just don't trade them. OTOH, I wouldn't mind asking a hotel/resort or a cruise line to set up and staff a special booth attended by any pin collector who wants to trade pins.

Building my own lightsaber is the best experience I've ever had at Disney. It comes with a nice carrying case with a strap, and I didn't have any issue taking it on rides. I think Rock'n Rollercoaster is the only ride you can't take it on. It's long, but slim and easily fits between your legs or by your feet on most rides. We did schedule our builds (both lightsaber and droid) for the 2nd half of the day so we wouldn't have to carry it around all day. I recommend making this one of the first things you do in Galaxy's Edge, as the Droid has interactions in the land and the cast will react to your lightsaber, making the experience extra special.
We got the backpack for the Droid and it was no more cumbersome than any other backpack.

It’s only recently that society had changed their perception and decided that heeled shoes are “only for women”. The sort of shoes that are sold with princess dresses are remarkably similar to the sort of shoes that French monarchs would commonly wear.
I tell you this only to highlight that clothes aren’t inherently for men or women. We as a collective society CHOOSE who should wear what. 200 years ago it was men, then it was women. For no reason other than, trends change how we think.

I had planned on these ahead of time, so I got short bungee cords on a carabiners and a large carabiner with foam covered handle to help carry them around. It was hard getting on and off the rides, and I ended up with a dozen bruises on my legs. I do use each regularly, but I wish I would have been able to wait til the end of the day to get them. I had brought a huge checked bag just for those 4 items and I just used clothes around each when packing to go home. Planning a head is extremely important.

They seemed like perfect souvenirs and gifts, since they were lightweight and weren't going to end up gathering dust on shelves or cupboards. Then came the upselling, cross-selling and the discovery of the 'need' to have complete sets and rare variants, and the pins' presence all over the parks. i now realise that they're still a good buy in principle, but you've got to have the blinkers on to avoid getting swept away in a craze.
