@@seventhson2151 Oh you cheeky...I see what you did there.
Ouch I felt that. I don't think there's a hypo spray in the quadrant that that'll take care of that burn.
If Ral didn't bring up Deanna, I think Riker might've fallen for the provocations. Bringing up Deanna however, made Riker see how ludicrous Ral's taunts were. The idea that his glib could fool her into being "his", as if she wasn't intelligent, principled and mature enough to see through him, gave Riker the break he needed to take a step back and laugh at the whole thing. Riker's respect for Deanna was stronger than his ego. Ral's wasn't. That's why Ral lost.
Precisely! Like that scene in a movie that half draws you in, even when you sense there’s fakery…and then, a completely ridiculous thing happens in that movie which not only is ludicrous and unbelievable, but fully embodies the lack of credibility of the entire movie. You can never see that movie in the same way again.
In the end, he did try to keep Deanna, but she saw through him at last. Better late than never.
She knew from the start it wasn’t meant to last. In that famous scene with her and Crusher stretching, she confided in Crusher and that was more or less their conclusion.
Part of me wonders if Riker mailed Ral a pair of Thaddeus' baby socks just as a reminder...🤣🤣
And in Ral's case, this is the reason why Luke Skywalker once said to Palpatine "Your over-confidence is your weakness".
Matt McCoy is an underrated actor. Ral would have been a great recurring character on TNG.
"You know your very good at this..very good. Much better than you realize" "Well I'm much better than YOU realize"...one of the best lines ever!
Devinoni pretty much lifted his foot off the tiger's neck when he mentioned Deanna....and Riker, the Alpha tiger he was, pounced on him like he was lunch. :D
"Otherwise you wouldn't be second in command"
Tell me that you're a civilian the doesn't know how rank hierarchy works without telling me you're a civilian the doesn't know how rank hierarchy works.
And, come the end of the episode, Troi provides his big reveal.
Troi: "This man is an empath."
Riker: "Hang on. You mean I successfully bluffed an _empath?_ Don't know my own strength."
I don't think even Dr crusher can heal him from that sic burn delivered by Riker. This guy has as many values as chairs have seatbelts on a starship.
Riker's response at the end couldn't have been better. What a brilliant comeback to that slimewad.
Writer must’ve went to bed happy after writing that scene :)
It would have been even better if he'd remember to take his PADD from the table when he walked out.
@@NeilFraser It said "FU" on the PADD

Riker using a Samsung Note 5...25 years before it was made?!?
Ben Knapp there is an episode where a note 7 blows up a shuttlecraft
More like 360 years after lol
I'll never forgive myself for forgetting this scene 😂, how irritating it was seeing Deana with another man other then Riker, this scene was a genius and thus brilliant writing!!
Some guys could really learn from Riker. Never let anybody provoke you who could not reach the sole of your shoe even he stands tip toed and reaches.
every single response or remark by Riker here shows strength and gut. he would never stoop down as low as that guy, and the made that very clear.
Oh, my God, it's Lloyd Braun! "Serenity now, insanity later!"
I got 2 words for ya
Mic drop
I'm going to take her too...
Riker: *slow smile* who decided that?
Then Riker walks back in
“Sorry, forgot my padd”
walks back out again having completely ruined his badassery.
I like the quick little shuffle on the stairs riker does after getting up
Man does that other guy ever over-act this scene. Brutal. I like him better on Seinfeld.
Frakes is great in this though.
I didn't think so, I thought that was just part of the character's vapid personality, which made him seem really fake. And even the character himself was just playing an act in trying to rile up Riker.
It's a dorky guy who got the Hollywood makeover and so now he has to act handsome but still in there is that dash of dork
Riker always gets up like a champ. You know, I didn't realise, but often I get up like that from chairs. TNG really taught me everything.
Wow, Riker left a smoldering crater after dropping that bomb of a last word.
This scene sold me nonmonogamy, which saved my life.
Little did he know that Riker remained as "#2" due to choice. He has gotten multiple offers to command his own vessel... he just specifically wanted to command the Enterprise someday.
I think he did know that, and was suggesting turning down the command was due to cowardice or an unwillingness to take risks.
god I miss this show.
Lloyd Braun is not going to be able to sell a computer to Riker
Rule of negotiation: never try to intimidate your opposition if they know you as well as you know them.
Anyone ever noticed Jonathan Frakes uses his head like turning signals 😆? He literally turns his head in the direction walking
Ral was Lloyd Braun in Seinfield. SERENITY NOW!!!
Maybe this incident is what put him in the nuthouse.
Insanity later!
Riker didn’t do the reverse leg, over the chair, move, to leave Ral speechless and amazed at the same time.
Not rekt
Rekt
>BURNING REKAGE
Rikage
Dude handed him his ass... but then left his phone on the table.
His real mistake is thinking of Troi as a possession. Instead of saying she'd make him better, Ryker should have pointed out she'd never fall for a guy who thinks of her that way.
Nope. That would be playing Ral’s game. Not to mention stoking his ego. What Riker did was far, far better.
Not enough dermal regenerators in the quadrant to heal that burn
Any Voyager fans out there should remember an episode this led to.
There's a reason they basically made Xanatos a cartoon William Frakes.
that and the fact that he voiced the character also
"It's a good day to die, when you know the reasons why. Citizens we fight for what is right.
A noble sacrifice, when duty calls we pay the price. For the federation I would give my life-"
Only thing missing from this is a Riker reverse chair-mount!
You can tell Riker is pissed off. He forgot to take the datapad on the table when he left.
Your mother was right, you could never compare to Lloyd Braun
Riker left his iPhone 25 on the table
Power move... he's so cool he didnt care about shit like that.
He'll just grab an ensign to fetch it if he needs it that bad
Or ask Computer to replicate another
He's prbly got half a dozen scattered about the ship... under his bed, in his bridge chair cushion, 10 Forward Men's Room and even in his Holodek Strip Club program... lol😄
There is a difference between being "SECOND in command" and being "second in COMMAND"
That look of total disgust on Riker's face when he got up and swaggered out.
Every time Ral says "well", drink a shot.
