I've got the S&W M&P 9 ProSeries CORE M2.0 5", to which I added the frame-mounted ambidextrous manual thumb safety (really quick and easy to do in under 10 minutes with just a small needle-nosed pliars and a steel 3/32" pin punch). It's been 100% totally reliable through about 3,000 rounds these last three years since I purchased it. It permanently retired both my Gen3 Glock 17 and 34. I always carried it during wilderness trail biking / hiking / camping with Underwood Ammo 9mm Luger 147 Gr FN HCL +P rounds, until I acquired my 10mm Auto pistol. I think it's a great firearm, and my son loves shooting it, too. Good things! 👍
Glocks are blocks. The M&P is a work of art and fits in the hand as organically as is possible. Who in the world would choose the Glock's baseball bat size grip over the perfectly thin swell of the M&P? These are two different animals entirely. Good video!
Well, I would choose the glock because I didn't have to get sent back to the factory to be reliable. I'm not saying they are perfect or don't have issues, But if you can't shoot them because of the grip, that aint a gun problem. That's a you problem. But I digress... Thanks for the comment and for sharing your opinion. Godspeed and good hunting to you and yours this new years.
I love both guns. But I believe the M&P with the manual safety and that stupid chamber loaded indicator is an issue. That chamber loaded indicator alone just gets in the way of the smooth and uninterrupted “flow” (for lack of a better term) of the 9mm shell casing, going in and out of the chamber. I ordered the 5.0 M&P in FDE without those two unnecessary parts and what I believe were just needlessly thrown into the gun’s design for the military testing.
I have the 5 inch model with the loaded chamber indicator. I’ve noticed the brass has a slightly weaker brass ejection over my M&P Compact. It’s definitely the loaded chamber indicator resting on top of the brass. Luckily a $15 part from Apex gets rid of it. Your model without the loaded chamber indicator is definitely the one you want
@@Sam1628 Ha! I purchased an Apex extractor. However I only have it as a “spare” part, in the event I need it. So far, there’s no need for it as the shell casings in both of my M&P 2.0’s eject strong and smooth. I’m glad the Apex extractor has worked out for you with your model. It’s still a great gun you have.
I have the Glock 34MOS gen4 and I absolutely love this gun! I installed Ameriglo Spartan night sights and I bought three Glock 20round factory extenend FDE color magazines which really sets this gun nicely! Great video!
Good video. It's a mechanical device, you might run into issues once in a while, yes even out of the box. MOST mechanical devices need or require a break in period. My Brand New G17 Gen 5 FS had to be sent back to factory for failure to go into battery and sometimes failure to pull back to clear the Chamber. Both issues were fixed within a week and a day! The G34 Gen 5 FS, has been flawless and so hasn't my M&P 2.0 4.6" Threaded barrel after 300 rounds. The Honest Outlaw was using Low Powered Cartridges... S&W states to Factory Nato spec ammo. That's what customer service told me.
Great video, very interesting about the failure. I think once it was fixed I would trust it but don't blame you for being worried, thankfully I have not had an issue with my pistols yet.
I used to shoot IPSC and help out at an indoor range that had Glock rentals. I have seen many many Glock malfunctions and I have seen several of the rental Glocks break. Usually, it was the piece that you depress to remove the slide. The slides would just fly off the front of the frame. Admittedly these guns were severely abused and never maintained.
Yeah how did the m&p's do? I used to work in an indoor range too and we would only clean them when they would start jamming badly. Never had a glock break. Taurus, Beretta yes not glock
@Alaskan Ballistics This was before the M&P was even thought of. This range only had a couple of random guns off and on besides the Glocks for rental use. Probably part of the reason for the problems was the ammo they sold to shoot in the rentals. They bought reloads with cast bullets from a local guy. I know at the time Glock said not to use cast bullets, and you can imagine how dirty the guns were after thousands of rounds of that crap. Considering the abuse, they actually did very well.
Soft lead Cast bullets are specifically not to be shot in glock barrels (or any barrel with polygonal rifling) says so in the owners manual of glock's.
I just got a M&P 2.0 5inch and I cannot wait to take it to the range. As far as reliability is concerned, we will have to see. I have heard that Glocks are reliable, but, I have also heard that this weapon is also reliable. Out of thousands of guns sold and only hearing about 3 issues so far, is actually not that bad and I wouldn't say that it marks any real concern. Now, if the M&P has had hundreds of reports of reliability/safety issues (like the Sig M17 had) then I can see being concerned and wanting to go with something else. I thought about getting a Glock but decided against it because, well, it is overtly boring and way over rated and hyped, in my honest opinion. It looks like a small black brick with a handle and a trigger on it. That is it. I do want a firearm that is reliable and shoots good, but I also want a firearm that looks good to! Do not get me wrong, aesthetics is not the most important thing to consider when choosing a weapon, but it does matter to me at least. So S&W it is! I did like your video and you did give a pretty fair review. You just gained a new subscriber. Great work!
Cacticalmain sent his M&P back because there was quite a bit of play between the slide and frame. S&W sent it back and told him that it functions. Honest outlaw had a few malfunctions with his M&P with very low powered freedom munitions ammunition
I wanted to love the MP... I tried. I bought three, included a 5" 2.0. The M&P just doesn't do it for me. I'm sure they're fine guns, but if they don't feel good in your hands, or you can't find confidence in one, it may as well be a wall hanger. Not bashing the Smith, but make mine a Glock any day of the week.
@D-A-1776 if I find a deal I'll post it. I'd offer him three seventy five and see if he'd go 400. Remember, mine had to be sent back to the factory. A few other UA-camrs had problems. There might be a reason that it's used!
I think the M&P is a nicer gun in terms of ergonomics and shooting, but I think Glock is a more reliable and dependable firearm. Smith and Wesson seems to have a real problem with quality control. For instance, I can't remove the barrel from the slide on my M&P 10mm when taking the gun apart, because the tolerances are too tight. The gun probably needs extra machining. Apparently this is a problem that other people have had with their Smith and Wesson 10mm M&Ps.

First time I've ever heard that about Glock mags. I've been shooting glocks for over 10 years, not once have I ever had a problem with a factory Glock magazine. Now KCI or worse a magpul glock mag, lots of problems.
Very informative. I’m looking for a new hobby because my shoulders no longer allow me to use my bow effectively. I’ve always loved handguns but have never held a license. In Australia the process for licensing and possession of any firearm is long and exhausting but I think it will be worth it. I’m definitely sold on the Glock 34, purely for targets as there’s no carry/conceal laws for private persons in Australia; it’s strictly military, police and high grade security. I wouldn’t even consider using one for self defence, I might not be able to use my bow for what I used to but I can still hit just one target at a good range and I bet at 200m I’m more accurate than the average handgun.
I agree if you're a dummy and can not unload your gun before pulling the trigger "you need" a S&W M&P 2.0. But if you are the sharp tool in the shed you can use a Glock safely _cause you know to unload you firearm_ any firearm before pulling the trigger.
Ugh with a long slide, double stack capacity so it’s a wider body I got to go with 10mm over 9mm. I got the XDM OSP in 10mm with a compensator on the end to bring the length out a bit and it not only adds the extra weight but handles the recoil even more than just being a longer barrel and slide. So for me that’s the one I like, personally I just don’t care for 9mm out of a FULL size handgun, it’s better out of a sub or complete compact. I get the whole range gun 9mm, but I like to practice what I’ll use, other than my .22 s&w AR which was given to me for plinking I don’t own range only weapons. I got a M2.0 Shield but it’s the sub compact single stack .40s&w with the “normal barrel”. It’s my every day carry while my XDM is home defense and hunting handgun, although I’d be lying if I said I didn’t carry my Shield even more often than my XDM on hunting trips when I’m trying to go light and it’s an easy pocket gun that still packs enough oomph for the panthers, black bears, people and other threats I’d encounter. But still, if I ever go out West or all the way to Alaska I’m bringing my 10mm for sure. Which hey I know Alaska Ballistics agrees with the best millimeter comment, if the wife wants a softer recoiling gun then hey happy wife happy life, but why some men like big a ol double stacked 9mm pistola over a 10mm is beyond me.
just curious because I thought 17rds magazines were out lawed in Cali. and yet you say you'er "rocking a 17 rd magazine" ? This vid is three years old to date, so maybe back three years ago they were legal.
He said it was due to cheap ammo. Premium ammo runs great. I’ve had no reliability issues with my S&W Full size. When he called S&W they said it wasn’t meant to run sub premium ammo.
Two nice 9mm's. My brother get gen 1 full size m&p from s&w and awsome shooter in 40s&w he also got their m&p model "c" in 40s&w. My brother wife got shield in 9mm. I like the shield in hand. If right both his no safty. But he like the Trigger in my ruger sr40c in 40s&w better.
Wilson I only came back to Glock because of their back strap feature. Gen 1, 2 and 3 all point badly in my grip. On that the M&P wins against the first three generations. I really like the 19x with the long beaver tail back strap in place. At least the new grip profile has remedied the weird grip issue. Cannot say that I have noticed it being overly block, at least not like the new G40 is.
@MoT0R He4D: if you guys want to try out two exceptionally well-made pistols, check out the Walther PPQ, and the HKVP9. These are somewhat pricey but truly excellent guns.
@@wilsoncruz1952 While a fan of H&K products. Their pistols just haven't blown my hair back ( especially the price of extra mags ). Cacticalmain didn’t have any reliability problems. He was concerned about the slide having a little bit of movement in it but he’s shot several thousand rounds through it since then with no issues. Honest outlaw’s gun had a little bit of an issue shooting low powered cheap ammunition, but ran perfectly fine with quality normal ammo. I don’t think you have any reason to be concerned about reliability. There doesn’t seem to actually be any trend of issues with this particular gun.
@@AlaskanBallistics And people have had bad reliability with glocks. Anyone can get a lemon. I’m just saying that your “3 documented cases” isn’t accurate. It’s just you. And you are the only person I’ve ever seen on UA-cam have any issues. Search hard enough and you’ll find people who get a bad Glock too. With all available evidence your claims of having questionable reliability just don’t hold up. I can understand having a bias after getting a lemon yourself though.
@@AlaskanBallistics What’d he say? Assuming you’re right. That makes two documented cases. I’ve seen almost every video on this gun from creators with 5 subscribers to the most popular guntubers. Want me to tally how many I find on any specific glock for you?
Do not have that exact pairing. Pretty close though. I had the standard M&P 9 fullsize. And a Glock 19x. I had to use the M&P against an aggressive feral dog ( folks dump unwanted dogs in the mountains we live in ). Got off two shots before the external safety got bumped under fire. That planted a seed of doubt that I wasn't able let go of, so the M&P 9 went down the road. Replaced it with a CZ P10C suppressor ready 9mm. Just like the Glock, it has no external mechanical safety. I do miss the Apex trigger I had in the M&P 9, need to get one for my M&P 45c ( no external safety model ) which goes everywhere I do. Never had a trigger reset issue with either of my Smiths. Knock on wood
@@AS-vk4kf I had considered that. Only I found a CZ P-10C at a good price, they also offered me $25 less then I had into the M&P. So I went with the CZ. The trigger on the P-10C line of pistol is very nice and I had been wanting a P 10-C for quite sometime. Cheers and good luck this season

Beat em with a koala, kick em like a kangeroo, then skewer em like shrimps on the barbie
Excellent review! In my mind, M&P all day!
Thank you
I just ordered a 5" m&p 5" 40cal I can't find holsters for them anywhere. And suggestions?
M.I.E. Productions holsters... Just specify in the comments that it's for a 5" not a 4.25"... I've got an old video on it somehwere.
👍 for the algorithm cause l don’t do 9mm or Glock or S&W 🤷♂️
Thanks for the thumbs up!
9mm is the best mm
Haha @Adam Hymas you're trolling hard today brother. Godspeed
Chris I have to agree 👍 on that comment. Nit 9mm fan and don't like glock all munch. S&w not bad theo.
That s&w sucks in relation to the Glock for reliability
I agree if you're a dummy and can not unload your gun before pulling the trigger "you need" a S&W M&P 2.0.
But if you are the sharp tool in the shed you can use a Glock safely _cause you know to unload you firearm_ any firearm before pulling the trigger.
Exactly 💯
I don’t know but is it possible the Glocks Polygonal rifling puts more drag on bullet than SW does=slower bullet?
Possibly. But generally it's less drag. I think glock's lock up isn't as tight
Love Smith and Glock
Me too
Ugh with a long slide, double stack capacity so it’s a wider body I got to go with 10mm over 9mm.
I like and have both. They're fun and cheaper to shoot
I love the Crazy Scottsman reference 👌
He didn't even reply... I'm hurt
You mentioned a different guide rod for your Glock 40 10mm. Which guide rod do you use for that pistol?
NDZ with 22lb spring
Thank you!
just curious because I thought 17rds magazines were out lawed in Cali. and yet you say you'er "rocking a 17 rd magazine" ? This vid is three years old to date, so maybe back three years ago they were legal.
Actually that guy is law enforcement and I'll never live in the Caliban
Check out OG's channel
Great vid Chuck, interesting results perhaps the chrono is a candidate for the Toklat just kidding,
Lol too soon
S&W instantly sent me the plugs and a friend of Hank Strange did a perfect how to.
Cool sweet. I'll go watch my buddy Hank
Have both, too many issues with M&P to recommend it
What issues have you had?
Did smith and Wesson tell you what part was broken on your M&P after they serviced it?
No
@@AlaskanBallistics you should call them and see what they did. I’d be curious to know what part failed
Can I get the m&p 2.0 5 inch in black?
Maybe, but I've never seen it
He said it was due to cheap ammo. Premium ammo runs great. I’ve had no reliability issues with my S&W Full size. When he called S&W they said it wasn’t meant to run sub premium ammo.
Who said that?
Glad to see another olight in use. I have the Odin mini on a 10.5" AR pistol and I love it. Will be checking out their handguns lights for sure.
I have 5 pl mini 2
Two nice 9mm's. My brother get gen 1 full size m&p from s&w and awsome shooter in
40s&w he also got their m&p model "c" in 40s&w. My brother wife got shield in 9mm. I like the shield in hand. If right both his no safty. But he like the Trigger in my ruger sr40c in 40s&w better.
And the glock's beat them all😁
I’ve only shot the glock. Agreed on the sights though.
Yeah workable but cheap
@@AlaskanBallistics seems like they could workout a deal with ameriglo or something for cheap but better…
Agreed
I like Glock but freaking hate that blocky grip and to me is very uncomfortable. For that reason I prefer the M&P.
I don't blame you, but I hope yours is more reliable than this one was at 1st. The grip is definitely better on the Smith and Wesson
I have heard a ton of good feed back about the Walther PPQ line of pistols. And while I have owned some of the more modern Walther offerings, I still haven't picked up a PPQ. They sure do point well and I like the way they feel in the hand.
M&P Fits better and shoots great
Awesome. Glad yours works for you
@@AlaskanBallistics Do you have any ideas regarding an OWB or IWB holster?
@pipersmitty87 ua-cam.com/video/MBA6oeNog_M/v-deo.htmlsi=0lXteFrYHW_vBI_7
I also like black rino concealment, Harry's Holsters,
Just in Case holsters if you prefer leather.
Here's my holster reviews playlist
Cacticalmain didn’t have any reliability problems. He was concerned about the slide having a little bit of movement in it but he’s shot several thousand rounds through it since then with no issues.
Honest outlaw’s gun had a little bit of an issue shooting low powered cheap ammunition, but ran perfectly fine with quality normal ammo.
I don’t think you have any reason to be concerned about reliability. There doesn’t seem to actually be any trend of issues with this particular gun.
Funny because I had low reliability
@@AlaskanBallistics
And people have had bad reliability with glocks.
Honest outlaw said in a chat that it had a lot more reliabilty issues...
@@AlaskanBallistics
What’d he say?
Assuming you’re right. That makes two documented cases.
I’ve seen almost every video on this gun from creators with 5 subscribers to the most popular guntubers.
Want me to tally how many I find on any specific glock for you?
Nope... I've had glock's have issues too....
you can take the safety off the m&p
Yeah I've been meaning to do that
I stand by the m&p all day, I have the same 5" with a holosun and x300 (no safety tho)
Glad you haven't had any issues
How does Og carry 17 rounds in California is law enforcement?
Yes...
2 year update… and the winner is…. Glock 17L. 😂
Nice!
The smith all day every day,
Maybe if it was reliable from the factory
Hi, why not just remove the safety? I have an mp9c that I’m having same issue. Thanks
I think i might remove the safety
@@AS-vk4kf I had considered that. Only I found a CZ P-10C at a good price, they also offered me $25 less then I had into the M&P. So I went with the CZ. The trigger on the P-10C line of pistol is very nice and I had been wanting a P 10-C for quite sometime.
Cheers and good luck this season
In Thailand a Glock comes with 2 mags and is priced just 250 bucks cheaper than a CZ Shadow 2.. ridiculous 😂
Very ridiculous. Get the shadow 2
Glock 34 all day everyday and it ain't even close.
I agree
SUPER.. GLOCK 34
It's awesome
Can a Smith and Wesson fire 1000 rounds at the same time?
I don't know
No gun can fire 1000 rounds at the same time. Even a Claymore mine only fires 700+ shot pellets. 😆
M&P used to come with 3
Not at any point that i sold them in gun shops
I’m pretty sure the ones labeled law enforcement only came with 3
You were more accurate with the g34 man. Easily.
Yep... i do usually shoot the m&p better though
M&P
Ehhh when you don't have to send it back to get it to work sure
Without watching the video, or even knowing which gun the Glock is being compared to... Not the Glock
Lol nope
That sounds like the baby on that old show, Dinosaurs.
"Not-the-Glock!"
@@AlaskanBallistics Like it's so dumb because the pistols are so different they can't even be compared. One of them isn't even desert tan.
It's not required to pull the trigger to disassemble a Glock.
Show me how
Whaaa? Hahaha
I don’t think so lol 😂
🇺🇲🇺🇸👍💪
Thanks for watching and the comment
