In the end, whatever works best for you and you're happy with it. PD really determines the true level of detail while SteamVR Super Sampling (SS) just enhances it.

@@Gh0st0071 No, it won't. This is idle speculation by the community. In 2022 ED said that Vulkan would perform very similarly, especially if you have a reasonably high-end system. The reason for this is that most of the code, including the "simulations", is in the form of Lua scripts and will therefore have the same single-threaded CPU bottleneck that we currently have. Render calls will still be doubled for VR (i.e. regardless of GPU and quality settings, total VR frametime will remain lower bound by 2*non_VR_CPU_frametime), irrespective of the fact that more than 3/4 of the community has an Nvidia GPU (including nearly all VR users) and that implementing their VR-SLI is as simple as adding a single line of code and passing a constant offset in the draw calls (this doesn't use AFR, as each GPU renders the same scene at the same time, one for each eye. @@chazflyz Not really, even OpenXR doesn't provide that as is evident with MSFS when played with different headsets. Your Oculus, WMR or SteamVR are still running depending on which headset you run.

Interesting. Seems to be a mixed bag on Lukas' recent video. Also, he did a video concluding that the Nvidia control panel has no effect on VR. That also could be subjective as well. What are your computer specs? Selecting the PD 0.5 and using SteamSS puts all of the drawing power on the video card so I suppose a weaker video card may struggle. Dcs 2.7 with clouds could change all of this! 🤣

Hi there. I don't use the controllers in DCS. I use a mouse to click things around the cockpit. There is a VR flight sim called VTOL VR that I play. That requires controllers.
I have my desktop display set at minimum. It definitely is separate. And unless you have an audience, there is no point to it. In vr, you don't see the desktop image
How did you get the cockpit to center like that? I just got my G2 and been fiddling with it all weekend, and still can't get cockpit to center. Even in the menu screen, the screen is offset either to the left, right, and sometime it's way down at the floor level. Any tips or advice for the newbie G2 user would be great. Thanks in advance.
If I understand your question correctly about centering.... you need to map a VR re-center button on your controls . The keyboard default button is NUMPAD 5. It can be changed to anything you want including your flight controls. Once mapped, sit normally, perhaps slightly leaned back, look forward and press the re-center button.

Never used VR but I think I want to. I want to know about what controllers you use. I have a full HOTAS setup and I'm very comfortable with it. What I want the VR headset to do is provide me with the VR visuals and head tracking, and since nearly every important flight function is mapped to the HOTAS, I want to fly with the HOTAS and NOT use the VR hand controllers. Or use them only for those functions that I would occasionally need that aren't mapped to the HOTAS. I realize that one VR limitation is that you can't directly see your keyboard or mouse (or monitor) in front of you while wearing it. Unless there's an augmented reality mode. So, will I be able to use my HOTAS with the VR headset? Or will I be required to use the VR hand controllers? I think I know the answer but I want to be SURE.
The VR controllers are not required for DCS. You CAN use them if you want to. Mine are in the box. Most of us just use the mouse to interact with the cockpit switches (that are not already mapped to some HOTAS or button box).
Ha Ha, "Is the 2080 still relevant?" I run an old Gtx1080 with an i5 with the G2. And yes, i have to run the settings in DCS quite low but surprisingly in IL2 I can set it all to high. I'm in the process of buying a i9 and a 3080. I cant wait.

3 things. 1) Windows Mixed Reality needs to be launched before going into DCS. 2) SteamVR needs to be launched before going into DCS 3) In DCS, at the options menu, go to the VR tab. Then verify Enable VR is checked. If it is not, check it. Then click ok/save. DCS will restart. Also with VR enabled, every time you launched DCS, it will default to VR until you turn it off.
In my experience anything higher than 10% reprojection is too stuttery. I came up with very similar settings (i9-11900k /3090) , but at only 100% SS on Steam VR (.5 in DCS). Not sure how you can run it at 450% with this much reprojection.

Ive just bought a G2 cannot get DCS non steam to reconize the G2 do i need to buy DCS on steam to get it to work?
@@chazflyz hi thankyou very much
In my experience anything higher than 10% reprojection is too stuttery. I came up with very similar settings (i9-11900k /3090) , but at only 100% SS on Steam VR (.5 in DCS). Not sure how you can run it at 450% with this much reprojection.
Performance will vary computer to computer. In the end, I eventually went back to native settings PD 1.0 and SS 125%.
Do you think the g2 would work well with 1070 if you use a bit worse settings and resolution?
It should work, but you would need to turn down the settings quite a bit which would take away from the eye candy and immersion.
@@chazflyz if I would upgrade to something like a 3070 would I still need more than 16gb ram or do you think it would work fine on higher settings?
16 is fine, but I'd recommend 32 if it's in your budget. The Syria map and even Persian Gulf use more RAM.
I have the Non - Steam DCS version installed .. is there any trick to emulate the Custom resolution multiplier of Steam VR for my DCS standalone verion ?
An alternative setting that I've been using is: SteamVR Super Sampling to 56% and DCS Pixel Density to 1.5.
u need to use the software of your headset , I assume its an oculus 🤔 or vive
Not sure how your able to turn your headset up to 450% but I tried that and it's so bad I can't move my cursor and I'm running i9 10850k @5.3ghz,64gb corsair vengeance rgb pro 3600,Samsung 2 tb nvme, evga rtx 2080ti ftw3 with a nice oc .any updated settings for the g2?
450% is with the in-game Pixel Density (PD) at 0.5 . This settings is a bit "artificial" and only helps out those with lower end systems.
Since this video, I have gone the other way: PD 1.5 and supersampling 55%.
@@chazflyz o ok I'm gonna give your other settings a try and see how it performs vs my old settings which were turned up to high with open xr resolution set to about 80%
how do you fpsVR to sit in the corner of the screen
I create a second window in OBS to record.
how are you monitoring your fps in this video?
Steam program called FpsVR
Anybody know why you would use msaa and fxaa at the same time?.
No real need other than to get the best possible visuals assuming your computer can handle it. FXAA is just a "cheaper" version of anti-aliasing. It's not in DCS- just the Nvidia control panel and it's debatable whether NVCP even affects VR in DCS .
you think i could run vr on a 1080ti and i7 7700k?
Yes but in-game settings would need to be turned down.
What's your method for capturing VR footage in dcs?
I use OBS to capture just the mirrored desktop image. Crop it to 2560X1440. (16:9). I've used the OpenVR plug-in for OBS to capture directly from the headset as well. Might do that for the next video.
@@chazflyz ah nice. OpenVR doesn't give me very good frames. I wish we had the Oculus mirror that would not only crop to 16:9 but also stabilized the video. (Fellow g2 user)
@@DreadwingOne what about capturing the WMR app mirror?
@@chazflyz I would recommend u to try the g force experience if u have the nvidia card .. its really uses lower PC sources and wont hit much the performance 👍 at least from my experience comparing with the obs and the stream labs .... but for streaming its an other thing , "which me personally still working on it" ,is a real issue because of the power of the G2 u will need every single frame from your graphics card to have a good gaming experience while streaming without missing alot with the sittings .... I tried everything , at the end I decided to order a capture card 🤦♂️ I hope it will resolve that issue
I have a 3080 Ti, Ryzen 3700X, yet I have an extremely hard time running this game. I set resolution to 70% in Steam settings, yet the FPS is barely satisfactory and there are constant hitches and 5 to 10 second long freezes, unless it's a very simple mission scenario.
Consider switching to Open XR instead of using SteamVR. Much better performance and visual clarity. ua-cam.com/video/RJq2Mdpb9II/v-deo.html
@@chazflyz Thank you for your answer, I will try it when I can and report back with the results.
@@chazflyz Although it didn't fix my main problem of constant freezes, the game does run much better. The performance got decent, flickering went away. So, thanks for this advice.
@@yeruschmift8422 how much ram do you have? I highly recommend having at least 32gb for VR.
What type of storage do you have? Hard drive? Traditional SSD? M.2 nvme? Go with the latter if you don't have one.
Latest drivers installed?
@@chazflyz 16 Gb RAM. But how does VR influence RAM?
DCS is installed on a hard drive, I'll try moving it but honestly I don't believe it will make much difference either.
In fact I've got a hypothesis now that the core problem is in the cable (I've got the first revision). The problem is not that acute in other games, but I could believe DCS clankiness does its thing there.
450% in steam vr?? I drop it to 50% with a 3080 to be able to play it smoothly :/
Since this video, I've gone the other way: PD 1.5 and SteamVR 55%.
But honestly, you can't go wrong with native settings. PD 1.0 and SteamVR 100%.
What else does your PC have? CPU? memory?
@@chazflyz 5800x , strix 3080 , 32 gb 3600mhz cl17 ram and a strix X570 board and its been known how much problems does the G2 have with this board chipset .. but it works with a HUB..
"PD 1.5 and SteamVR 55%. " 👍 well this method I do and recommend coz it gives more clarity than upscaling the steam VR ...
as u know the main issue with the super sampling and the FPS in the game can be determined by the tool u used in the game " FPS VR tool" and as u can see when it hits yellow or red which it means that it performs badly and its not smooth as it schould be , thats y I go down with the super sampling so it hits only green constantly .." it depends on the situation and the map but still can be done in between best as possible" 😅
why not updgrade, with mining they are all free gpu, i alredy payed back my 3090 ftw3 in few months.
Best year to buy gpu^^
What are your video settings for recording your VR experience?
I record using OBS Studio. The in-game settings are in this video. The "recording" settings are 2560x1440 at 60fps.
@@chazflyz what source are you using as your VR out?
In OBS under Sources, I use Window Capture and select the [DCS.exe] option.
@@chazflyz So how are you getting a 16x9 aspect ratio?
OBS. Settings. Video. Set the Base and Output resolution to a 16:9 aspect ratio like 1920x1080 or 2560x1440. You can select a preset or type your own resolution.
