  • Christmas at The Johnston Collection is an exhibition held each year from October to January where makers from a different region of Victoria are commissioned by the museum to create works inspired by Fairhall exhibition-house and William Johnston's collection. In 2016 The Johnston Collection invited some of Melbourne’s best contemporary makers to create work for the exhibition ‘RETURN TO THE CITY’ | Christmas at The Johnston Collection 2016 (4 October 2016 to 31 January 2017). Makers who showed their work in the exhibition included artists collectives the Hotham Street Ladies, the GLAD Rappers and the Melbourne Tapestry Weavers Collective and individual artists Anne Bolitho, Lewis Brownlie, ChiliPhilly, Amanda Dziedzic, Sai-Wai Foo, Irianna Kanellopoulou, Abbey Rich, Robyn Rich, Sharron Okines, Louise Saxton and Ellen Sorensen. Their work was displayed against the back-drop of William Johnston’s extraordinary collection of English Georgian, Regency, and Louis XV furniture, painitings, ceramics, and objet d’art www.johnstoncollection.org
