  • Is it even an Iceland winter photography trip if you didn't go to an ice cave? On today's photo vlog, I headed to the south of #iceland where our #landscapephotography mission was to photograph ice and an ice cave.
    Amazingly, there wasn't any ice on diamond beach. But, there was plenty of ice out on the glaciers!

    Cool that I missed this video before, now I can see the new one and this one 😅 Amazing caves like expected, it's cool that they change places over the years

    Some great images from that black ice cave, very unusual and great abstract images. That Merc looked an absolute beast of a motor, thats an experience itself i should imagine. Im worn out watching you run up and down that hill, still a great location and a really nice image i thought, easy or not ! In most situations the difficulty lies in the getting to the location , so all the hard work was done before , take the easy image thats your reward for the hard work getting there !

      Haha, imagine how I felt on the hill. It was way too much excersise for a calm sunrise of landscape photography, haha.

    Back home recently from Manang. Watched your Annapurna series for the first time back in 2020 and by now I've lost the time-count I watched that series. Loved that picture you took at Gangapurna Lake bridge and felt like a student learning from teacher's guidepath. You were on my mind the whole trip and it helped a lot with compositions though it was windy and snowy there. Would love to mail you few similar photos from Manang. Cheers from Nepal.

    I'm glad that despite not getting the usual lemons at Diamond Beach, you were still able to make some lemonade. The photos came out great even without the ice there! Those ice caves looked really cool. The first one resembled Antelope Canyon a little bit but with ice!

    ..diamond beach photos are great..in my mind i think the 'diamond' photo thing is now overdone...even so if i had the opportunity i would want to shoot there with the ice bits...always enjoy your videos...dont stop em....

      I agree it's overdone. HOWEVER, every time I go there I think, "there's no way I'll find a new photo worth taking". Then, I end up coming up with an idea and taking about 1000 photos haha.

    Yes. In March this year there was no ice on the beach or in the lagoon. I chose not to stop.

    I am heading to Iceland from the States for the first time in August and trying to decide which lenses to bring. Right now I am thinking my 15-35 2.8 and 100-400 plus my Mavic Pro 2. That would leave a gap between 35 and 100 in focal range but because I will be traveling and hiking I am thinking the less weight the better. It seems most of the photography stuff I have watched in Iceland on UA-cam tends to be either on the wider end or more telephoto end of things. Do you think I would regret not bringing a lens in the 24-70/105 range? I'll mostly be on the west side of Iceland.

      Hmmmm... Honestly, hard to say. I work wide. I use mostly 15-35mm. But, I'm always scared of missing something in that mid-range. I'd say to pack the extra lens just in case.

    Was this visit from this spring? I will be in Iceland next week and may cross Diamond Beach off the list if there are no diamonds.

      This was February. It will depend on the weather. I'd say that by now there should be diamonds again. The lake usually thaws in late April. Check recent social media posts, you can find out that way.

    We now switch anxieties from acrophobia to claustrophobia. I may have to switch to a different hobby. Basket weaving, anyone? Carry on! 👍🥂

    I bet those narrow caves stop a few people with claustrophobia 🫣

    • @BrendanvanSon
      @BrendanvanSon  Рік тому +1

      True. Although I don't think they were as bad as some of the tight spaces in the slot canyons in the US southwest.
