- We all felt for Tom Branson after Sybil's shocking death. Edna is basically the only person in this household that remembers the fact that Sybil died. But it's very uncomfortable and frustrating to see Tom fall into the hands of this master manipulator, even for a minute.

We are not saying that Edna is a gold digger, but... oh, wait. Actually, we are saying that: bit.ly/2JRS5ma
I don't think a real gold digger as such. More like a social climber and wanting more than her station in life and she saw him as her way out.
😂you took the words rite out of my mouth
Haha
You might say that 'the chauffer' was a gold digger too, then. If not he, then why her?
Look the story arc might bear you out, but think about it ... she see's him for what he is, handsome, normally not outside her perview and yet now with added benefits. That she sets her cap for him, should be easily understood. In a world of 'almost' arranged marriages to get ahead, where a woman can't rise above her station with out marriage, you can see her point.
She's a gold digger for sure, but let's be real, Tom was a social climber himself, and he forgot about all his ideals the moment he was comfortable.
She really crossed the line when she went into his room without knocking, then taking it upon herself to steal a kiss. She's taking advantage of his vulnerability.
EXACTLY!!!!!!
@@mialake7222 it was his vulnerability makes him one of the most attractive figure in this drama. NOT a complicated combination of his background or struggles of hi merging into the family. But his vulnerability wins all.
Edna: *There was nothing improper*
Also Edna: Walks into Tom’s room whilst he’s getting dressed and kisses him without his permission.
That Edna is a shameless hussy. :-)
@@Rukasepar I find myself hissing when she comes on the screen!
Tom was too kind, but he should have had her fired right then.
Grace Rutledge I just mute the sound and close my eyes so I don’t have to see that evil toad
@@sammier.6125 Although, I wouldn't mind seeing her have one last wrangle with Mrs. Hughes in a future movie toting a 3- or 4-year-old, claiming Tom is the father!
I didn't really like how the staff assumed Tom had led Edna on while it was clear he was being nothing more than friendly. Come on, even if they hadn't seen everything, they all knew how Tom loved and still loves Sybil.
@Life, Love, And Other Things He clearly told Edna at some point he wasn't interested, apologized etc but she kept pushing. :/
@Life, Love, And Other Things I wouldn't use that verb ;) Keep watching, you'll there is more to their story.
@Life, Love, And Other Things Not bored! He was questioning his place in the family, how to reconcile his politics with those of the family he's married into, how much he should push against the family to give his child his values, etc., etc., etc. AND to top it off, he was lonely. A fish out of water. All these things made him extremely vulnerable to an aggressive, scheming woman from his former "class" pushing ALL his buttons!
They reacted that way because Tom had crossed the line with Sybil so it is possible that he could have deliberately crossed the line again.
@@phalynwilliams4119 still they should have had some IQ to understand that he wouldn't do this so soon after he lost the love of his life. it was insensitive.
For me Allen Leech is such an amazing actor, he acts so much through his eyes every time he's in a scene I can feel all the emotions Tom is feeling. The way his face always breaks and his eyes water everytime someone mentions sybil shows just how much he loves her and misses her. "I can't bear to be without her" almost killed me.
And he played such a nasty role in
Bohemian Rhapsody. Shows how good he is
@@patriciabeard5521, Exactly!
Hope you recovered ok?
I thought that of Brendan Coyle. His eyes can be very expressive.
He is the most underrated Downton Abbey character.
I want Mrs. Hughes to adopt me
Don't we all?
@Amber Oh thank you, I suppose you are as well
@adeli 01 you'd have to know my parents to understand
She's such a wise woman who doesn't engage in gossip
Crystal Schuster I know. My mom and I get along well but my father not so much
Mrs Hughes and Tom. What a beautiful relationship.
She realised it wasn't his fault.
Tom, William, and Anna are pretty much her kids.
@@rcladygreywolf6567 I would even add Thomas - the challenging one
If the memory serves me right, Mrs. Huges is the one who kindly yet sternly warns Branson about "loosing his heart and his job" if he falls for Lady Sybil. Yet, here she is also his rock, helping him coping with the greatest loss of his life. What a great motherly figure she is!
At first I thought it was double standards that Tom was rewarded for loving outside his class, and Edna was punished for it, but then Tom never crossed the line with Sybil, he cared hor her and gave up lots of things for her and her child. Edna was manipulative, and I´m glad Mrs Huges saw her for what she was.
Mrs. Hughes was one of my favorite characters. She knew everyone’s secrets and protected them and supported them as best she could. A kind but stern woman to those who deserved it but she was also someone who took nothing from nobody and could see through someone’s intentions.
@@vilwarin5635 Edna never loved Tom. She wouldn't even respect him, if she succeeded with her nasty schemes.
@@Martina-Kosicanka that was my point too
@@vilwarin5635 Ok sorry
Isabel and Tom's friendship was very underrated. And I love Mrs. Hughes and Tom's moments, she was a mother figure to him at Downton, she was very protective of him. :)
Alan Leech without his shirt. Pure heaven.
I remember watching this with my granny and it was like sitting beside Mrs Hughes. ‘Stupid girl, she needs to learn her place’😂
Edna is a predator, what she did was prey on Tom. Who was vulnerable and grieving for the lost of his beloved wife who he still deeply loved, raising a baby daughter on his own, and trying to figure out his place at Downton now that he had no where else to go. Edna continues to overstep her bounds, no respect for his privacy and boundaries. She was using and abusing him and people were making out like he was the one being naughty when he was the victim.
Predator is too good a word for Edna.. Her despicable machinations in seducing him is something unprecedented for the times and of all the dark characters during this series I hated - no- Despised her the most and wished they’d never factored her in to his storyline.
Completely agree. Couldn't have said it better....so thankful Mrs Hughes stopped her trap
@@Sunny25611 it's despicable but it happens I'm real life more than we want to admit. Edna hoped to catch him while at his weakest. Thats what predators do
6:08 Seeing Mrs Patmore go wild in that glorified hammock chair made my day...
The relationship between Mrs Hughes and Tom warms my heart.
I always thought of Mrs. Hughes as the heart of Downton. She is so good, kind, fair, and friend to those who need her. She saves the day more often than naught and keeps things running smoothly. I always thought she had a soft spot for Tom and sorta saw him as a son figure.
Mrs Hughes on the carousel is the funniest😭😭we need to see Mr Carson and the Dowager on there too😭😭
I hated Edna, calculated and cunning fox. She wanted him to get a better position and the title of lady...
Everybody fucking hates her
Tom doesn't have a title. She wouldn't have a title
She will be put down right??
Elsie Hughes-Carson is the real lynchpin of Downton Abbey! Touching scene with Tom Branson!
De St the union between Elsie & Jim was splendid! I enjoyed that particular storyline 😎
@De St Because people like her is doomed to be alone once she is old enough and had to retire. She was worried because she had no money to buy a house, and after all her life serving, she had no children to take care of her, little family and friends, and the prospects of a loonely poor retirement was very sad. With the marriage, she and Carson had a new hope to live their last years, not alone anymore, with a bit of romance too. It´s a more sweet prospect, although they had to spoil it with carson´s illness.
@@PoliticalSligo , I loved the way they just looked at Edna when she refused to perform her assigned task. 😂. You knew that it was all over for scheming Edna when Mr. Carson asked her “why?” 😂
Tom always remained humble and kind hearted.
Tom crying about Sybil still gets me every time. We've all been there. You just want to hug him.
I know this clip was about Edna and her creepy obsession with Tom, but the part where Ms. Hughes describes Sybil just made me wanna cry😭 it was so sweet!
The development of Tom in this series is good.
Mrs Hughes is having a 2nd job as a detective lol. She can see Edna’s motive to become part of the family by seducing Tom.
6:21 Mrs Hughes so cute here and I love the way the music changes lmao
The first seconds already had me raging...
Props to all the actors!
Aw, god this made me cry. You can tell how much Tom miss Sybil.
she really thought she could just worm her way into the Family. AS IF.
That Allen Leech - such a looker.
Tom is hot
Those shoulders. That chest
Very much so. 😍
Tom is the most wonderful and underrated character in the series.
I couldn’t stand this character. Taking advantage of sweet, vulnerable grieving Tom like that 😡
When I re-watch clips, I fast forward past scenes with Edna because she was annoyingly sleazy. Except the scene where Mrs. Hughes exposes her deceitfulness. I love Mrs. Hughes. My favorite character. PEACE to ALL ... and STAY SAFE and HEALTHY.
Did the same thing! 😅
Who was worse... Edna or Ms Bunting ? 🤔
@@juliana22
They were both disgusting!
Congratulations to the producer!
The actresses they chose to play the characters were great:
Very ugly voices and unatractive round faces that looked bad!
Ugh!!!
Edna was a golddigger.
"Tom" looks so f'n hot in these scenes.
Okay well hi then Edna LOL
Thats why shes after him, and hes after her.
Tom is so handsome. 😍
I don't know how I missed this. BOTH classes giving this guy the perfect advice at the most perfect of times. Allen Leeche's best performences in Downton Abbey bar none!
Allen Leech shirtless........I was not ready......meow!
Damn I miss this show. The movie was so needed. 👍
Garren Groom I agree . Although I enjoyed the movie , I found there was an element missing . The series was so beautifully done that it was hard to duplicate or surpass it.
@@11Dossier
My local PBS is rerunning the entire series and it's so enjoyable. They've done this several times & it never gets dull. The plots, twists & turns. 👍👍
Garren Groom I have Amazon Prime and the full series is on there . I can and do watch it often.
@@11Dossier I loved the movie as well, but I also feel like a lot of things where very much forced.
gosh he's handsome
I so ❤️ Mrs. Hughes!
Mrs Hughes is a like a mother to Tom Branson being there for him when he needs it
I almost stop watching Downton because of this Edna Character. Like Thomas said she is manupulative little witch
No Tom don't do it! Edna's trying to do to you what you tried to do to Freddie Mercury.
🤣🤣🤣
Bruuuuuhhhh that's true 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I can't 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love Tom Branson ♥️ ❤️ stop messing with my boy Edna
I love Mrs Hughes she`s a caring person and looks after everyone. Edna tries to make a good match in making Tom feel bad. And the Housekeeper looks deeper and find`s the truth.
Edna - the right hussy.
Edna is a scheming hussy!
It didn’t occur to me until recently that the actor who plays Tom also played Frances Dereham in The Tudors.
He did? Wow… kind of disturbing but he is a versatile actor.
Yes!! I was binge watching The Tudors then paused it then was like. OH HOLD UP WAIT A MINUTE ✋
She👏🏼raped👏🏼him👏🏼
@Cat e "unlawful sexual activity and usually sexual intercourse carried out forcibly or under threat of injury against a person's will or with a person who is beneath a certain age or incapable of valid consent because of mental illness, mental deficiency, intoxication, unconsciousness, or deception"
Which is what happened when she came back, not shown in these clips. Tom tells her he would not have slept with her had he not been intoxicated (she was feeding him drinks/drugged him)
And tried to trap him with an innocent child that she knew could or could not be his whatever got her pregnant sooner
@Cat e go watch the show please
Please! Spare me! He didn’t discourage her.
@@phalynwilliams4119 did you not watch the show
oh lord.
_edna, honey, please leave this planet NOW._
Edna is so manipulative
Cannot wait for this
Edna is a little clam happy
Tom is gorgeous!!! I'm in love.
Ew Edna 😟😟
What exactly was her plan here? Make him feel awkward and out-of-place enough that he'd be down for some pity sex? Did she find a copy of The Mystery Method in the library?
She drugged him, to then rape him, to then tell him she might be pregnant, to then find someone who actually would make her pregnant, yo then marry him
She wanted to be Mrs Branson and eat with the family. Which is why she got him drunk and climbed into his bed later on.
Mrs. Hughes is like a mom to everyone in this house. Unless it’s Edna….
Edna was hustler and stalker 😁😁
Allen Leech is fucking gorgeous, sheesh wow😊
Poor tom 💔
he's so handsome .......... ☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️
Tom. Strong. Beefy. Irish. Hung. Fuck yeah.
Edna was freaking delusional, but I always comeback to watch MyAnna. What a beauty!
New fan of “Downton”...just watched this 😣 storyline. Question: Why did they bring Evil Edna back once they got rid of her in the first place?! (I know she deceived Lady Grantham) She really did take advantage of poor Tom! #LUV Tom/Allen 🥰😍🥰
Stay in your lane Edna. Dont get on with your betters. All these systems that humans establish to keep one in their place. Even the servants encourage it zealously. No different from the caste system in India. Love it
Why does Mr. Barrow always look like a creepy vampire? Porcelain white skin and cherry red lips.
Mrs Hughes - powerful den mother energy!! :)
You wouldn't believe she's Swedish.
We don’t eat early for dinner, dinner will be at 8
8?? How is that early
Lol I in bed by 8
Well, in aristocratic country circles during that time, that was an okay time. It would be even later if the upstairs crowd were going to a ball that night as well. You might not get a late supper until midnight. Breakfast at that time was not an early morning affair unless you were a farmer and needed to fill up or if you were going into town as a tradesman and had to be at work by eight. In fact, breakfast usually begin at around nine or 10 o’clock since the time of King Henry eighth maybe even earlier.
The servants probably ate at 10pm. After the family ate.
I disliked that Edna so much
When Mr. Carson intervenes when Edna gets out of line with Mrs. Hughes. Why Edna? Do you have other plans?
In which series does this scene come up?
Edna’s accent😘😘😭😭😂😂😭😭😭😍😍😍
I moved to “most replayed” section to see what is about. And ofc, Allan without his shirt on.
I loved Edna in Downton Abbey. It was her that allowed us to see shirtless Tom.
Now I ain’t sayin she’s a gold digger, but she ain’t messin with no broke ___...
6:26 came and that's where the nausea hit 🤢
Ooh , Edna’s cheap
💜 ⭐
Tom was lonely and vulnerable and the tart took advantage of him.
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 Why did it have to end?! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Tom Branson really is a hottie! 6:24.
I cannot stand Edna!!!!
Por favor, por qual site aqui no Brasil eu posso assistir? 😫
Prime Video!
She just appears in season 4. But everyone acts as if she was there before, am i missing something? When did she appeared?
I had to look up who all played edna cuz she looked so different the second time around. Her face or head looked wider when she returned. Weird.
tom can get it
I’m ok if Branson wants to remain single.
Nah I ship Tom//Lucy ((you'll know if you've watched the movie))
Nah I ship Tom//Lucy ((you'll know if you've watched the movie))
I have my Edna in my life
So did they do it?
Not in that season, no
GeekyBiblophile I doubt they ever did it, he was probably too drunk and drugged to do the deed when she tried to trap him.
@@LisFayte it's heavily implied that they did. Plus Mrs Hughes found a book in Edna's room that showed how it was possible to avoid pregnancy after sex. Why would she have something like that if she didn't plan on putting the information to use?
Yea... She drugged him so she could do it even if he obviously didn't want it
No. But she abused and assaulted him and ended up taking advantage of him. She then tried to trap him through a pregnancy that wasn’t his
ok
Ew ew ew worst storyline
@De St Was it really necessary to take time out of your day to write this comment?
De St Great now we've both lost time and no one's the happier for it
Yeah. You're the loser, here, Elsa.
God it makes me cringe. I've god nothing bad to say about the actors - the scene with Mrs Hughes was good - but I really don't like the way it's written. Edna's deviousness is apparent but her motives are never explained. The whole subplot just felt soapy (for want of a better word).
Makes me cringe every time
But would Sybil be proud though? Tom abandoned all his convictions in favour of a comfy life (the type of life he had previously claimed to hate, and a life that Sybil didn't like either).
He’s still a socialist and for the working class;he’s just managing the estate the now.
Because Sybil loved Tom and wanted to see him succeed. He challenged the family to make them see him as an equal and now (from the movies) he’s managing the estate and being held in high regards along side Lord Grantham. And most of all, he’s a brilliant father so of course Sybil would be proud
@@Elizabeth-po1tb ha, Sybil wanted him to stay at Downton.. she didn't want to go and live over a garage....
@@glen7318 she didn’t really care where she lived. She wanted to be with Tom and work and do something meaningful

You're welcome.
Not a bad looking body tom poor Edna wat is she at like I'm suprised she didnt fall at his feet and say pleaseee ask me to marry u pleaseeeeee
Does Tom marry Edna or have a relationship with him?
For gods sake, No! Why should he/she?! She fucking raped him and lied to him!!!
At some point, Tom gets help from Mrs Hughes and Edna is exposed for who she is: a schemer? Mrs Hughes fires Edna and she leaves.
@@MarinaKaFai , Mrs. Hughes one upped Edna hard in their final showdown!
No! Edna goes away and comes back! She gets Branson drunk and then takes advantage of him! Mrs. Hughes saves the day! Tom does get remarried in the movie a new era to Lucy Smith!
As time wore on, the Branson character had nothing to contribute except dreary old political pronouncements that were cliches upon cliches. The actor playing him , meanwhile, became chubbier and tubbier , possibly due to boredom with the or laziness induced by renewed contracts, and had to be concealed under ever increasing yards of tweed.
Allen Leech was in a movie where he had to play a larger man. Hence the weight gain
