    Good review. A'Bunadh is one of my favorites. I currently have batch 61, and it's just delicious.Chocolate, honey and baked fruits on the nose. It carries over to the palate and adds tobacco and clove.

    Never have pulled the trigger on this one as it is always available. When I am in my hunts I always seem to find something that is harder to find than this. One day I will pull the trigger. I love your channel. I watch most of your videos. Cheers!!

    Nice video, Erik, and funny to see how the abv choice per market/country varies....Here in France, maybe because the owner is French, mind you, for now the 16 yo (Double Cask Matured) is still bottled at 43 % abv but we start to see some bottled now at 40 %, while the Casg Annamh is bottled at 48 % (not 46 %) and the A'Bunadh (which is a batch pick, not a single cask as you stated) is still affordable while it has been volontarily increased in price for UK (a market question) & the 18 yo I have the chance to own in its original form (70 cl) is now only bottled in 50 cl bottles. About A'Bunadh there are a lot of batch variations (some are harsh & too young, others are more balanced & wonderful, for instance my rates go from 78 to 94/100) and also age range variations (back in the early days you had sometimes quite old stuff up to 25 yo, then it was brought back to maximum 15 yo age, and almost always minimum 3 yo stuff in it, probably the majority). I covered batch 46 in my website, and tried a couple of others, so for sherry heads, make sure you try the batch you're targeting before you buy as you might be disappointed sometimes. Alas no very recent batch number to advise you guys, sorry. Slainte !

      As I recall it batch 46 wasn't that great to begin with. But it got dramatically better after some time in the bottle.

    Great exploration of their process. The pours I've had from A'bunadh have always been interesting. Sadly, I have yet to bring a bottle home. I need to fix that. (I also am not a fan of wax tops!) Cheers!

    I concur. The only bad thing about this is that darned wax cap. Great dram (Batch 75 for me).

    Aberlour A'budah is a batch bottling not a single cask bottling :-)

    A'budah: the Buddhist version of A'bunadh. I had to triple check my spelling as I got it wrong too on the first try. ;)

    Bought this exact batch for USD 60 i Germany last week. But it is an european bottle, so I'm 50 ml. short ;-) Love Aberlour A'bunadh generally and I always try to have some of the better batches at hand. This one should be good. Mine is not open yet. There are notable batch differences. But having said that I have never tasted a bad Aberlour A'bunadh.
    If they aren't up to standard right away, then let them sit a month or 2 with some air. They always come out great in the end.

    Really enjoyable video and again great info on the bottle you are tasing. Just a question: don‘t Springbank marry their core range mixing different casks (bourbon, sherry sometimes rum) ? In what ways is the process different from the one at Aberlour? I remember hearing it during a tour there...

    • @ErikWaitWhiskyStudies
      @ErikWaitWhiskyStudies  4 роки тому

      When I toured Springbank I don't recall hearing that they marry their core range. I suspect that Rob at Whisky In the 6 might know the answer as he is a major Springbank fan.

    Don't drink it neat, add water until it opens up to your nose/palate and you will enjoy the whole bottle, I am surprised you didn't even suggest this.

      Thanks for watching. Drink it however you like it. I mention in numerous other videos the different ways I taste whiskies.

      WARNING: drinking 60% alchohol is dangerous to health. Cask strength whisky needs a little water to open up the flavours and is certainly the case in my opinion with 'Ah..boon..ad' (correct pronounciation). Many people believe that if a whisky comes bottled from a distillery at cask strength, then that is how it should be taken. This is wrong I think.When I tasted Batch 66 (the latest batch) at the distillery in mid September 2020 I added 3 small amounts of water in separate stages ( a total of perhaps a teaspoon in all) before I began to enjoy this wonderful not too expensive sherry influenced dram. Without water I found it to be too fiery and pungent. Water also extends the contents of the bottle so it's a win win situation.
