Got a bottle of batch 77 for my brother’s birthday a few weeks ago, on sale, taxes in for $177.00. Victoria B.C. Canada. We have a hefty liquor tax.

When Scott said 'I had to add some saliva to it before I swallowed it', I thought I'd clicked on a different show. I've had about 8 different batches of this and enjoyed all of them. I don't think the batch variations mean you're getting worse whisky, it's just slightly different. The old photo reminded me of Han and Chewie in episode 4 when they played chess on the Falcon. Bart definitely looks like older 'Return Of The Jedi' Chewie now but that's OK, he's the only whisky wookie in the galaxy!

One I’ve never tried but when I hear Bart say ‘holy molly’ it’s now on my list.

Ahh...we have batch 69 and it is fabulous! In fact, it is one of our go-to's for chocolate, caramel, sherry, and umami combos. You're right though, the batches are a bit different from one batch to the next. This is one whiskey that needs more attention from the world!

Finally got my hands on this specific bottle after years contemplating about buying it, I've bought the same batch about 2 weeks ago, lots of character that this whisky has, WOW!!!

Great to hear these newer batches are good. One reviewer thought the sweet spot for this series was from batches 40 to 60 and it was downhill from there. These newer batches are available but starting at 108$ now.

Scott when a country police officer from Kansas....states that he is trying to "suss out the flavors" you know you have been talking to and hanging out with too many scotch drinking Europeans:) Love the Seinfield "man hands" reference :) Amazing review as usual. Sounds like perhaps..... Aberlour is giving some love, more time in the cask, and possibly better casks to the Abunadh because I use to love it but a lot of the batches in the 50's and 60's were very average to me. Hope you guys are doing well! Cheers boys!

Hey, guys, been a while, hope all is well. I have been mixing 1 part abunadh to 5 parts aberlour 18 and it is one of the best sheried whiskies I have had in a long time. I tried it with the aberlour 12, but the 12 is not rich enough. Try it. RoyRoy

Just cracked open a bottle of batch 71 tonight and holy cow this is by far the best whisky I’ve ever had. First 100 dollar bottle I’ve ever bought and it was so worth it.

I like this Aberlour from about 6 years ago. Need to try a newer batch. Can’t believe it was 8 years ago you started. You’ve almost reached the vintage mark.😂 Another 7 years to go.

Great revisit of this one. A bottle of batch 61 was the one that flipped me from a cask strength bourbon drinker to the Malt side five years ago. Have been curious what the recent batches are like.

I still love this release. Maybe, it is less than earlier releases. However, I think it is just a great Scotch with so much flavour. Cheers!

Blue cheese? I remember way back when raisins chocolate orange…that was probably from a batch in the 40s. Is blue cheese a good note?

Fun review…Aberlour is good juice. So, how do you think this compares to Glenfarclas 105? It is a cask strength sherry bomb as well, maybe it’d be worth trying them side-by-side? BTW, love the Star Wars tee…Cheers! -RPS

After looking at that old photo I'll just come out and say it chaps. You guys (like me) look like you've enjoyed a few years of whisky drinking. It's just juice but it's freaking calorific. I'm just coming to the end of my A'bunadh 70 so I'm grateful for the review. After the price rise, a few years ago, the A'bunadh is not on my shelf so often and I only buy it when it's reduced in a sale. Truth is, though, I really like it. It's a NAS but there is some old stuff in it. It takes water very well so you get a lot more for your money. We used to buy it for £35 and then it jumped to £80 and it lost a lot of folk. When it goes down a bit in a certain internet company I pick one up. Cheers. WT

It’s interesting, as you follow whisky, certain bottles/distilleries have their day in the sun. Right now you hear a lot about glen scotia victoriana, following Kilkerran and Springbank. Glengoyne had the tea pot dram, and ardbeg had various releases to name a few. It seems like the abunadh was all the rage 5-6 years ago. I wonder if it’s the whisky folk moving on or if a bottling hits, the price rises and or quality drops.

This is a tricky one. As you said, there can be huge variances from one batch to the other. Here in Florida the A’bunadh is selling for $125. That’s a steep price to pay for an experiment. If it’s one of the “good batches”, it’s well worth it. If it’s a dud…..not so much. I will definitely search for the batch you reviewed here.

Good re-review guys. I’m interested to hear your thoughts on the newer Dalmore 12 Sherry Cask Select now at 43%. Maybe a comparison to the old 12 at 40%.

I have a batch 61 bottle that’s been open for about three or four years (I think) and it punches just as hard now as it did when I opened it. Not for the faint of heart that’s for sure. No point in adding a few drops of water. This calls for a spoonful.

All the carpet and pad out. Got baseboards back on and touched up. Sheet rock was ok. We got water off quickly. Carpet replaced last Thursday. Almost back to normal. Can’t get the couch back in the right LOS for the TV.

This was the point I was going to make: the previous batch was around £60, which itself represents an increase from around the £40 mark not too many years ago.
If you like a sherry bomb, this is very good indeed but I refuse to tolerate such price increases and won’t be buying it again.
Interestingly, there is an article in issue 184 - July 2022 - of whisky magazine about the history of the expression- the first was released 25 yrs ago. The current master distiller talks about the batch variation in the article. There will be variation however they aim to retain a core profile from one batch to the next. Batch variation is something to be celebrated (think Springbank)!
Aberlour we’re the first distillery to bottle a 100% sherried malt at cask strength, thus creating the ‘sherry bomb’ style.

Mandatory on the sherry journey but an NAS for $100 is still alot of $$$$.
Is this the Aberlour to buy? The age statement are 43%???
