The vast bulk of the cost of a super yacht goes into paychecks. Not just at the shipyard, but into the paychecks of workers and managers at the suppliers of all kinds of finished goods and raw materials that are used. The number of jobs (and actually "good" jobs) created by the construction, and then the actual use of a super yacht is enormous.
Octopus is one beautiful boat.
eSysman: Your Dad was only 16yrs old?! Now THAT's a salty dog and good countryman. My Dad was 17 when he enlisted in the US Navy just after Pearl Harbor and deployed after training, to Whidbey Island, Washington state, USA, as an airman in a PBY flying boat. He was a cryptological tech and radioman and 30 cal. nose gunner. They don't make them like that anymore. Folks like your Dad (and mine) and many others like them are why we aren't speaking German, as they say. God bless all of them. As always, thanks for another great post with top-shelf content, production and presentation. Cheers.
I would like to to say thank you to both of your fathers for all they risked and sacrificed to keep us free.
Please remind that 42% of the Americans are of German origin.
@@stiebelulrich Yes sir. Fully aware. I meant the Nazis, who spoke German. No disrespect intended.
Wonderful to read the things dads had done during the war. Thanks. Cheers Cape town
God bless the greatest generation.
love the yotspot
Thank you!
Aristotle was a early superyacht owner.
It‘s was Shawn White, „that famous snowboarder“ on the first trip on Octopus with some other well known person, I forgot his name 🤣 … (L. H. maybe 😉?). Thanks for the update!
These SuperYacht are incredible inside and outside.....Thanks my friend 👍
Shoe🇺🇸
Octopus was always scheduled to do 2 charters in Antarctica this winter, that statement was in the Boat International article published in early 2022. Michael Lee Chin is also known as a Jamaican & Canadian businessman, part of his fortune that he made was from a Canadian based mutual fund company he owned that he sold in 2009.
Did not know that the Christina had such an interesting past with our navy. Learn something new all the time on your channel. Thank you.
You are the best! Thank you for your mindset. You are awesome!
My Dad was in a convoy across the North Sea to the US and they were chased by U-boats most of the way. In his diary he says the U-boats would wait until their escorts went to the other side of the convoy and then they would surface and fire torpedoes into a ship. They weren’t allowed to stop to pick anyone up. Nice to see ships from that time still sailing.
Lovely hearing you talk of your Dad, I talk of mine often, they were of a very brave generation that deserve their stories to be heard and memories honoured!! Stay Safe & Keep Reporting!!
When speaking of Motoryacht "Christina"(now "Christina O"). It should be remembered that for decades from the 1950's-70's, she was not only the largest privately owned yacht in the world, but also the most opulent, complete with fireplace lined with Lapis Lazuli, mosaic swimming pool and whaleskin bar stools.
She was "The" yacht "anyone who was anyone" was seen on board. Their Serene Highnesses, Prince Rainier and Princess Grace of Monaco, Winston Churchill, The "Taylor-Burtons" Jackie Kennedy(who would later marry Onassis) and her sister, Princess Lee Radziwill etc., and of course Onassis' long term, on-off mistress, Opera Diva Maria Callas, just to mention a few. Yet for all her legendary glamour, "Christina" being an ex-warship had been built for sea-worthiness rather than comfort of those on board. Despite Onassis lavishing millions on her, she always had the tendency to roll, pitch and yaw, severely in anything more than a 3 foot swell, this was before the days of the latest technological advances, so at the firstsign of bad weather, "Christina" would turn and scurry off to the safety of the nearest port, frequently grimilly commercial, rather than glamorous.. Very few these days can match that sort of glamour though..!
my mother worked for the Architect Cäsar Pinnau how restored the war ship in Hamburg.
I heard many years ago the one fireplace WAS lapis lazuli! I also remember that it was steam powered because the steam engine was smoother running than a diesel engine which had less vibration to the art objects on board!
@@steelman86 that can be of course. I do remember the pure gold WC water stuff...and pipes out of gold.
THAT snowboard guy is the Juan Manuel Fangio of snowboarding.
We nearly went on a cruise on the Christina O a few years ago in the Galapagos. Unfortunately the timing wasn’t right and when we tried to rebook, the prices had more than doubled and put it well out of reach. It would have been a real stretch but the opportunity seemed worth while.
Another great video. Keep up the good work.
Every new Esysman video, feels like im owing a yacht! Thanks for all the insight!
My grandfather was a shipyard electrician during the war, building the ships that men like your father sailed on. Hats off to all the sailors, soldiers, airmen, and everyone else who worked to defeat tyranny in this world.
2 Helicopters onboard is a legal requirement if you want to helilift (for example to go skiiing) in polar regions. Obviously you don't want to have your $10m helicopters left out on deck in such conditions, so a hanger is sort of required too. Not many vessels afloat can meet these requirements, good Ol' Octopus !
Another good program .
I've sent this along to MY dad, who lied his way into the end of the war (he was barely 16) and served on an American merchant marine ship - the ones that Kaiser Industries was putting out at 1 per day. My dad's 95 and still going strong by the way - very lucky he didn't come in at the beginning of the war, when the U-boats were sinking them at a prodigious rate. Last year, the United States Congress got around to thanking the Merchant Mariners of WWII with a proclamation and a medallion they could BUY. Can you imagine? He guys, thanks for saving us all from the Nazis. You wanna buy a medal? Jeezus H. Peezus.
Wow that’s great he’s still doing well. Give him my regards and thank him for serving from me. My dad passed away in 2010, but I spent as much time with him as I could even though I was working away at sea. Regards.
@@eSysmanSuperYachts Thank you so much. I will.
🙋♂️THANKS ESYSMAN, I HOPE YOU GET TO DO YOUR HOLIDAY SOMEDAY 🤗 💚💚💚
The story about Michael Lee-Chin is so rad! Good for him to achieve his goal!!!👏👏👏
Best one yet, thanks for all the work you put into these brilliant round ups!
9:13 Anyone who questions how much a person gives to charity should first prove how much they gave to charity. Having one of these yachts built creates many jobs.
Our 2nd son and his wife and daughter went to the Antarctic in early December on the Venture. They docked next to the Polaris coming back, the ship that got hit by the rogue wave.
The poorest give the most.
Thank you for sharing the story of your dad, I bet he has some stories to tell, any chance you could share a story from your dad or other sailors of his generation every now and then.
My father, asdic operator on Artic and then Atlantic convoys, When, rarely he spoke of those times his eyes glazed over
The Christina was the original super yacht.
Curiously, I saw a video of the late Paul Allen complaining that his yacht Octopus was, "too big." I believe Larry Ellison did the same thing after taking delivery of Rising Sun.
Yay, Cold Yacht News!!
The building of these yachts give jobs to a lot of people. I subscribe to very few these days, but you are always credible with wit. Thank you. ❤️💯
🛳️ GREAT content as usual! I’ve been sub’d since before the pandemic, and have enjoyed the channel. Your delivery ’n editing keeps getting better! Wishing you much success! ⚓️
I am with you, if I was going to the arctic, Octopus would be my pick as well. The capabilities of this yacht are amazing. It is amazing seeing some of these yachts coming out of the sheds- the sheer size of them alone.
My grandfather was merchant chief engineer on a number of vessels sunk in the Atlantic and Arctic convoys too - amazing bravery really, never discussed it
Beautiful ship - C. O.
it was a canadian vessel...
I want that yaught for sale. Lol. Good coverage on the octopus. And lots of details about the yaught s Everyone please don't forget to give and pray for the earthquake victim's. Our world is in need of Love.
There certainly are a lot of hurtin' people needing compassion and support. Bless them indeed.
I dont know about M/Y Sarafsa getting a nice paint job. Perhaps the motoring trend of "Rat Rod" might catch on, just a thought. 🤦♂🤣 great update 2x👍
lol, at 5:27, he said, "I would pick M/Y Octopussy". Played it several times. Had someone else listen too. She laughed immediately. Maybe he is thinking about the James Bond movie while shooting the video?
5:26 You used the James Bond pronunciation for Octopus. See, I knew you were related to Timothy Dalton. 😊
Nice catch. I had to go back to see what you meant. 🙂
It would be great to hear some of your dads stories. They need to be told. Always enjoy the content thanks 🙏
Great and informative video, as always. One small addition/correction though: The 4000 in MTU's engine designation refer not to HP but usually to CC per cylinder. (I would be surprised if Luminance 'only' had a total of 8000HP at its disposal.)
Love anything on Octopus
The famous snow boarder is Shaun White. Thank for the video..take care
Great video, as always😍
Looking forward to project Luminance launch! Any idea what happened to Lurssen Project 1601?
Triangle of Sadness is a good film too...
I don’t begrudge the ultra wealthy spending their money on whatever they want, I don’t expect nor want them to donate to “charities” all I ask is that they pay their fair share of taxes including on their extremely large carbon footprints. I appreciate the artistic and technological advances that we get to see in the things that only extreme wealth can afford to own.
I agree. I do not believe that any of us has the authority or right to tell someone else how to spend their money. That being said, I subscribe to the theory that those blessed with much also have much responsibility. However, I definitely think that responsibility should be entirely self-governed.
5:27 Octopussy or Octopus? Must be James Bond in mind.
I thought it was me hearing what I thought of earlier. Only James Bond movie I saw in theater.
It’s obscene that so many of these mega yachts exist. I have zero problem with self-made men who own these. Only dislike the ones owned by kleptocrats. The super/mega yachts are fascinating. I absolutely ❤️ the Octopus.
I think Sean white went with Lewis. I have to get on that trip!
Yes this is true.
Do a video on Lee-Chin!!! Please!
I think you should do yacht spotting at the end since you may loose retention for the viewers if they click for the title and have to watch through that part
MYOcto beautiful
SUPER YACHT NEWS BABY!!!!! WOOPWOOP 😁😁😁😲😲😲😁😁😁
You have great shirts..
Not only did the guy give money to charity, but how many jobs did he create having that yacht made? A lot of people were able to house and feed their families because he bought that yacht.
I'm surprised by the number of people who fail to consider the direct and indirect cash injections that are created by major projects/purchases such as these superyachts. It's as if the money just disappears into a black hole somewhere and nobody benefits from its existence. It seems these people learn the amount paid for something by a wealthy person and immediately begin to roll out disparaging remarks about a complete stranger and presume to have the authority to direct said stranger how to spend their money. Jim Morrison was right, "People ARE Strange".
Question.... what are the big walls for on the outside of the ship builds in the photos bro????
Who's on board MY Octopus? Somebody rich I betcha!
In regards to the last comment about how many hungry people around the world that could have been fed if the owner had not spent the money on building that yacht, why not say how many people were employed in so many trades and industries that made it possible for that vessel to come to life. Besides, who would you trust giving your money to that would actually feed the hungry?...
That yacht is stunning. Why do people think when others have alot of money that they should donate it? They made thir own money and have every right to spend it as they choose. Smh
MY Eclipse has been advertising a weekly discounted vacation. I don’t remember the savings; but, compared to what I’ve heard you mention for a 7 day trip even $5000 isn’t much savings. I’ve seen the commercial four times now.
Yep, $5,000 off. I just saw another commercial, And they go to Antarctica . The flight was free as well
Need some bloopers too please
Just what we need mega yachts and cruise ships covering Antarctica with diesel su soot soot
Question: why is there no more news about the magnificient Jeff Bezos sailing yacht?
Great video again. Thank you
Cheers
I missed the Powerball and my boat comes up for sale. Dammit.
Great report even though you said “Octopussy”. Cracked me up. Close Caption even got.
Did he? That one blew right past me heh, heh.
They must have started the Megayacht a while back. Wonder if the war has interfered with finding buyers as well.
I think it would sound better if the Quantum stabilzers modulates the Space-Time field around the Point Singularity engines, which powers the Warp engines. LOL
By the way, where is Y721?
Read your comments ...I mentioned Triangle of Sadness a month or 2 ago!!!!!!
When you are talking about gross tonnage, are you talking about the weight of the boat? Is it conceivable that a boat that is 20 years old may have used much heavier materials than larger, newer yachts, that use materials that lighter weight? It seems like gross tonnage might not be the most accurate way to measure the size of a yacht? Maybe length, width and square footage (deck space)? I may not be clear on how the term "gross tonnage" is used to determine the largest yacht. Please enlighten me. Thanks for the great videos.
Are you sponsored by Ralph Lauren bro hahaha 😆 😂 🤣
The snowboarders name is Shaun White, the greatest half pipe snowboarder of all time his nickname is the flying tomato
Michael Lee Chin is actually a Canadian/Jamaican …. And made all his money in Canada.
eSysman i would pick Octopus as well but i said that already did i
☺
When a yacht is built look at the tens of thousands of hours of hours spent in wages in just building. Then the hours of mining, steel making, transportation. Then the jobs supported in interior finishing. The jobs that are paid for in crews, maintenance , marina fees and workers. They in turn spend the wages supporting thousands of other workers. One yacht being built keeps thousands of other from becoming homeless.
At 4:02 Ithink it is LEWIS HAMILTON we can see runing back and forth on the helicopter deck.
You are right about Luminance 145 meters yacht and yes it belongs to Ukraine oligarch Rinat Ahmetov. Cost around 500 mil dollars.
How much (estimated) for one if those charter trips on Octopus then? Would be interesting to know.
$2.2 million per week plus expenses.
@@eSysmanSuperYachts Ride me sideways that's mad money.
Would love to see Sarafsa bought and refitted. Beautiful yacht to slip into that condition is a waste.
Someone asked Khrushchev what he thought would have happened if he had been assassinated instead of Kennedy. Khrushchev apparently had a sense of humor, he answered that he doubted Aristotle Onassis would have married Mrs Khrushchev...
Think of all those paid to buid thise thigns, thise who work on them, those who keep them afoat, and the managament companies employies paid to do the servicing
Shawn White?
Maybe its just me, but that lady doing the Rose pose on the bow of AHPO really creeps me out. 😱
€330 million is around $353,677,500 dollars. As we speak €1 is right at $1.07.
Soooo, at what point do super yachts become SHIPS?
Ok, aTrip to thee Arctic on octopus, and one of those war vessels your dad fought for us on for you….hey maybe we can modify one together😮😂
Nice little bit of rationalisation there, but...
So Lewis .....exactly how much carbon did you emit with that little trip to Antarctica? (let alone what I'm sure was a private plane trip to get down there in the first place).
It's spelled h-y-p-o-c-r-i-s-y.
If I were General Taylor's son,
Walk him along, John! Carry him along!
I'd build me a ship of ten thousand tons!
Carry him to his burying ground!
To me way, hey! Stormy!
Walk him along John! Carry him along!
To me way, hey! Stormy!
Carry him to his burying ground!
Several years ago I was actually offered a job on Octopus...and turn it down.
I do not think anyone outside of the UK knows who Lewis Hamilton is but I suspect anyone who has ever seen the winter Olympics knows who Shaun White is.
Are you mad? 100's of millions of people around the world know Formula 1, it's a global sport. Are you American or something?
You need a tissue, brah?
Why would you order a yacht, wait years for it to complete, and then sell it after a year? 🤔
Maybe because his country was invaded by Russia, leaving him with uncertainty about his future financial security. Maybe he thinks having funds to finance his country's defense is more important than owning a super yacht.
Or the corrupt ran out of money like the billions the US is sending to such a corrupt country while here in the US people need help
I'll never understand why people are so jealous of hard working people that got extremely rich . SMDH
I think they are projecting their own jealousy perhaps without even realising it.
Great Video. I can see why you are 'jealous' of the trips with MY Octopus. Who knows, eSysman, your personal story could evolve as Michael Lee-Chin's and you could commission a vessel similar to MY Octopus, or whatever else your heart desires. I would be thrilled for you and am sure you would use your resources to do good in the world. Really nice story on Christina O as well. I do remember seeing some of her story, must have been on this channel since I get all my super yacht and any yacht information here. A story about Mr Lee-Chin would be fascinating, and no doubt positive. Ahpo is gorgeous, the man has good taste in my opinion. A welcome switch up from lives of corrupt selfish oligarchs and the likes of Bezos.
Nobody remembers his name 🤷🏻♂️🏂
Concerning the "charity" comments - my gosh! if somebody has enough money to buy a yacht & send it wherever they choose to sail (er, yacht), you should really be concerned about its carbon footprint. Many hands go into building that boat, operating it and maintaining it - that in it self is giving back to many communities around the world. That is far better than charity. To each their own.
Carbon footprint is a different conversation, unrelated to the charity comments. Also the idea and term 'carbon footprint' was created by a marketing team for BP (an oil company).
I love how Lewis Hamilton goes on about saving the world by being vegan and then goes on a super yacht to one of the most vulnerable places on earth
can
Let's go EVEN FURTHER! About "APHO" yacht. When you build a yacht just who does that? Aren't there hundreds if not thousands of people in all kinds of businesses that get paid for their expertise? Why the hell is that NEVER mentioned as a good thing? They aren't just sitting around thinking someone OWES them something! They are collectively getting off their ASSES and going to work. So, all the nay sayers? Bite me! And yes, I'm a skilled craftsman in my job.
Ultra secret? Ummm ok 😂
