As much as I love watching you skate, as an absolute beginner at 58, I am glued to the screen watching your son skate! Thank you for bringing him into your tutorials. He shows me what I might be able to achieve in a reasonable amount of time and hard work. I appreciate his contribution a lot. He makes it seem doable for me. Please thank him from me, a 58 year old woman, that started skateboarding for the very first time in August 2019. Greeting from Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
If the plan for the channel is to stay relatively new-skater friendly then gradually build-up to advanced tricks, FS/BS Slappy please. Otherwise, impossibles.
One thing that helped me learn normal no-complys (without the 180) is trying them up a curb. They kind of feel awkward on flatland but I think in context of having to jump up an obstacle, your body will fill in the blanks a bit more. Maybe even let the tail bonk to level it out, but eventually you'll want your thigh to do that job on pure flat (just don't whack yourself in the knee!). Ironically I have more trouble doing the 180 variation but seeing you break it down really helped.
3 things that helped me figure this one out (I believe from Johnny Giger's tutorial): 1) Put nearly all of your weight on your front foot 2) Begin opening up your shoulders 3) Simultaneously shift your weight to your back foot and step off with your front foot

The straight no comply (without the 180) is definitely the most difficult one imo. You are as old now Ben, as I was when I started skating and I can land decent no complys. Today I am 45yo and my favorite one is the bs no comply 360, that is one of the few tricks that I can land with some steeze. Since I am still a beginner, I really dig the vibe of this new channel Ben. Keep up the good work! Btw, I can never get 2 many kickflip tutorials (and I know that you have done something like that earlier on your other channel) so that is my suggestion for a future video! :-)
I think an idea to consider in future videos is to include variations of a trick that aren't too dissimilar (e.g., kickflips and fakie flips). That way, you can kill a couple birds with one stone.
From a video game standpoint :) There’s only 1 way to no comply in Skate 3 and its very choppy. However, that was 11 years ago, and they still weren’t “respected” back then. I would have to assume this is going to be a very smooth and easy thing in the new Skate game in the next year.

I'm surprised I didn't see this in the comments yet but, for the record, a front 180 No Comply is a 43. I learned straight No Complys over a parking block first if that helps anyone.

It's such a beautiful trick, thank you for the superclean demo. Been working on this today, now i know i can also do this without 180. I'm 45, been skating 30 years ago. Now restarted, but i have to divide my energy between martial arts, weight training, skateboarding and health issues 🤔🙂
Ben I am so incredibly stoked that you are doing these videos and putting this channel together...you have a way of explaining things that just clicks for me in a way that the other thousands of skate tutorial videos never seem to do. Much respect to you, thank you for all you do, man, keep pushing
I've been struggling with this one a lot. Two things helped me(Ben didn't mention).1. Keeping my body sort of "in front" of the board 2. Turning my shoulders like in ollie fs 180- that one was crucial for me. I'm looking forward for no comply 180 backside from this channel!
I'd be very appreciative of a 360 flip tutorial. I can do them, but have never quite found the knack to be consistent. One day I'll land 4 out of 5, the next day I'll land 1 out of 50. Help!
If any of you still cannot do it , I will suggest also this: the moment you put your foot on the ground and it pops, move your CG slightly afterwards, and the moment just after move it again to neutral. It worked for me.
just getting back into it after a decade im able to pop the board up and throw it back down im trying to figure out the street to board transition here
I learned to caveman by just trying it on grass. Moving to asphalt just requires some courage and commitment. I haven’t tried it off anything, just flat.
As a fellow 90s skater who likes trying tricks again in my late 30s, I hate that these and slappys weren’t done back then. I wish I had learned them 25 years ago
Damn, 20mins to warm up? That sucks. I’m 38 now and spend a few mins ollying and that’s my warmup. Mostly because my session is about 30mins. That’s usually all the time I have
GOD ALMIGHTY Loves you all give your life to JESUS CHRIST ALMIGHTY Before it’s to late and live for GOD ALMIGHTY NOT FOR THE WORLD. GOD ALMIGHTY bless you my friends HALLELUJAH
You are so right about the bad reputation of tricks like the no comply. I'm 37 and started skating in the 90's and absolutely know what you are talking about. Today I decided to give the no comply a chance and finally learn it ;D
Dude, no comply isn't a trick.. It's a behaviour like switch, frontside.. Definition: Intentionally unintentional lack of board cooperation and made to look that way into a sweet recovery. And also for the chicks. Origins: Unintentional "OH SH**" or some 'plant' that didn't go according to plan. JK..but not really..but maybe. NO-COMPLY.. If you go back to the original intention or the board starts to cooperate ..by magic...SHIFTY ie; Bonus points for making it look like an over-exaggerated screw up and you cave-manned it back into what you wanted it do to begin with. Seriously: You didn't see it much in the 90s because it was mostly old school and from freestyle tricking. Probably didn't see many 360 boneless either. All that took a backstage to newschool/street. The trick you're talking about in the vid, almost sounds like just a bean plant that went no comply lol
We just called the straight ahead version a no-comply, with what you're doing here being Front side 180 no comply. At least one of my friends in the 90's could do backside 180 no complys but it hurts my brain trying to remember what that even looks like. I've never heard of them as being referred to as a 'step off... whatever you said'. Seems like too generic a name considering there were quite a lot of 'step off' tricks in the late 80's. I do like these tutorials, though I haven't done this trick since the 90s told me I wasn't allowed to. Kind of died as a trick along with the flat ground Boneless - which seems to be making a comeback. They'll be street planting next! ;-)
Yeah this is clearly a 180 no comply, seeing as it does a 180. Don’t know why people call these no complys. That’s like me calling a fs flip a kick flip.
@@lennonscope8815 BS 180 no complies are in Shackle Me Not I think stepping off "outside" in front of the board. Stepping off inside, like 360s seemed terrifying.

Frontside 180 No comply. The other way is a backside 180 no comply. Slow them down Ben, you are going in too quick putting in too much longitudinal movement and not enough height. Watch Barbee in Public Domain...it’s almost like dancing with your board. Also they are harder on pops because of the curved tail. The further forward you put your front foot the higher the pop. Experiment!
I know it's quite a jump in tech here from a No Comply, but Tre Flips have always alluded me. My attempts end up looking like a pathetically bad Varial Kickflip attempt. I know it's more in the "back leg" to master. Any tips are appreciated
Originally a curb trick (I think Neil Blender or Lance came up up with them). They're called No-Comply because the board does not comply with the curb.
What helped was realizing you dont actually step off. Step off implies you actually lift your lead foot OFF the board and place it on the ground. That screwed me up soooo bad until I realized you just have to turn your foot and naturally it DROPS to the ground. Your heel is already hanging off the deck...therefore when you simply turn/straighten your foot you touch the ground instantaneously and this causes that rubberband snap effect. Not trying to pick apart your instructions dude, but many of the videos describe it the same way and tbh it screwed me up until I really analyzed it closer and realized you guys are just turning your foot.
U r right. Older skate game does no comply straight and it's weirdly gave higher air than ollie. This was difficult for me. And a toxic environment made me stop. Was trying this at a skatepark and i noticed ppl laughing.
this trick is actually pretty cool, cause when you got the hang of it, you can add some variations to it like grabbing the noise, spinning it like a half kickflip and so on. on banks its an amazing trick
When you say you didn't put your foot on the ground, back in your old days, did you do bonelesses? Because i think they are awesome By the way nice video
I might try it again pushing my leg out. I can ollie all day, up and down ledges but still fail at no-complys. I figured it's because of my short and fat legs.
I’m 42 and have just started to skate again after over twenty years of not skating. When I used to skate we didn’t have UA-cam videos and I didn’t know many skaters so learning new tricks was hard and ultimately why I got frustrated and lost interest. I could Ollie but not much else. I always loved the old school tricks like this . Anyway cool video thank you. I know exactly what you mean about feeling older in the bones , just the concave of the board hurts my feet these days , I don’t remember that happening when I was younger.
I can't do the scoping. As soon as my front leg leave the skate, the board just snap without me even have the time to scope it. Could someone please explain again how the scoping is being done? Thanks
Great video Ben!! I'm excited for more of these tutorials. Personally, I didn't love the music for the montage. Everything else was awesome! I'd love to see a frontside 180 tutorial. Cheers!
It may be obvious to those that can already do no complys, but something that people who are learning this trick seem to forget is how important it is to turn your shoulders. It is a 180 afterall.
I'm so small that I started spinning the board the other way around and it works. But I think after this video I'll try the normal ones again, so I'll be able to do both bc I'm not sure if my version looks good
You should be completely airbourne before you land back on the deck (ie both feet and the board all in the air). Think of it like a 180 ollie foot plant. I learnt em right after I learned the boneless and before I could do a 180 ollie.
Question - how many times did you hit yourself with this trick? The board comes sooo close to hitting your knees, shins, and family jewels haha that makes me scared to attempt it
I quit skating for an entire Decade and this was the one trick I could still do when I stepped back on board. 4 days later though and it's all coming back, and I'm having the time of my life.

just the best feeling Trick, so easy and stylish. My favorite trick along with 3 flips.
Aye man you do drywall work i just stubbled in this vid thats a trip. You do good drywall work btw learned alot from your other channel.
Funny bc I almost think this could help me understand kickflips
Did I also get tips if you for mudding & painting? If not you have a doppelganger UA-camr.

Hi Ben, thanks for this. Could you do a shuv it instruction video? Please. Thanks.
Question - how many times did you hit yourself with this trick? The board comes sooo close to hitting your knees, shins, and family jewels haha that makes me scared to attempt it
No complies are one of my favorite tricks! And actually the "spring loaded" method is counter productive for a straight No Comply.
that tip on the front foot on how to get it down to the floor, is key, i think. thanks for this.
Cheers from Venezuela
180 step off??? Dafuq it’s a no comply 180 plain and simple
does anyone know what kind of pants hes wearing at 3:49? lol
I first watched this over a year ago and I finally got em on lock!!! I can only do them switch tho
Spent all day trying to no comply. It’s almost midnight and I’m about to go outside and skate. 🤔
do you think its possible to no comply to 50-50? ive been imagining it in my mind, it looks so tasty
Linking skateboarding to a medieval siege engine? You son of a bitch, I’m in!
Great tutorial! Link to a video with lots of variations after getting the basics down: ua-cam.com/video/xWiEnV48OiQ/v-deo.html
