  • We are preparing to leave soon for a 14-day vacation in Europe and around the Mediterranean as we sail on a 10-day cruise. I had the bright idea to pack for this holiday using carry-on only. Will it work? Will I have enough room? Stay tuned to this series to find out.

Good video. To reduce your liquids bag you can take a travel size (really small) sunscreen stick (lasts a long time), a tiny tube of Neosporin, mints instead of a bottle of mouthwash, mosquito wipes (individual envelopes) instead of spray and a lotion “bar” instead of tubes of lotion. (The lotion bars are harder to find but my organic grocery store, and Lush stores, carry them.) I’ve really reduced my liquids bag volume and weight wise. I also take a powder-to-liquid makeup in a compact (so it’s a non-liquid) that includes SPF and also a balm (Trader Joe’s has a good one) instead of liquid moisturizer. Every little bit helps!

I’m taking the same cruise next week. 3 days in Rome then my cruise starts. How was your return to the FCO airport? my flight is at 11am I’m a little nervous about it

We opted to spend the last day in Rome so we took a car back to the hotel after the cruise. The hotel concierge arrange our transportation to and from the port since we stayed at the same hotel before and after the cruise. We booked the hotel with Delta Vacations so we arranged round trip hotel to airport transfers with them. I don’t like fumbling with transfers so I usually book them with my air or hotel unless it’s easier to catch an Uber.

Since your flight is before noon, I would advice that you disembark immediately and have your transportation confirmed and waiting for you when you get off ship. The airport is at least 45 mins from the port assuming there’s no traffic. Normally international flights board earlier and require bags earlier than domestic flights so this means somewhere around 10am for you. You will probably be rushing to get to the airport so just be ready.

@@whatsupwithwy LOL! Exactly I wish they had offered a later flight, but it was 11a.m. or 8p.m. I do have Global Entry so I don't have to wait in those long lines at the Airport. And I did book private transportation. I'm trying my best to do a carry on and backpack. It may not work if I want to bring items back. lol

Good you have the private transfers, it wouldn’t hurt to call them the day before an explain your flight time and urgency lol.
Also, remember Global Entry is only used for entry into the US. It won’t speed up your processing/check in time in Rome airport. There are some countries where you could use global entry but not Italy. Pre-check won’t help there either.
Make sure you check in for your flight the day before or as soon as it’s available on the app.
This is your long awaited vacation so don’t stress to much and enjoy yourself.

There may be a dilemma if you’re checking a bag because those lines can be very long for international flights 😕Also, if I’m not mistaken, VAT is available before security in Rome so there may not be an option to get your refund so think about that if you’re purchasing pricey/qualified souvenirs.
I feel like I’m being a pessimist and I’m not an over-thinker. Just have fun and go with the flow😊 but don’t worry about bringing back tons of souvenirs, unless it’s jewelry lol that’s my souvenir of choice and it’s always for me 🤣

Do the airlines and ports require vaccination card and boosters?

Currently airlines in the US have no COVID restrictions. However, there may be countries that require vaccines to enter. At the time we went Carnival did not require vaccines or tests but Greece still required vaccinations or negative COVID tests. Italy did not have any restrictions.
Before you travel be sure to check for restrictions for each destination in your itinerary.
