I have to comment again - I knew that the Matatus were colourful but you showcased them really well and I got to see the designs properly. It reminds me of an American show I used to watch called 'Pimp My Ride' where they transform your vehicle by giving it a cosmetic and sometimes design makeover.
unfortunately that was just an average matatu, the real matatus are well pimped up with big screens, grafitti and flashing lights. Check on UA-cam for more videos

My brother Tayo...you need to re-live the Matatu experience. What you experienced is honestly not good enough. Your local guide should have you experience the Rongai route in one of the matatus. You have no idea that In the 80's, the whole city of Nairobi was endowed with efficient yellow Kenya buses!! I stayed at eastleight across the KBS garage and yiu wouldn't wait no more than 5 minutes to board a bus to the city!! Those buses were great. Taxes were available too that operated on non travelled KBS buses. Times have changed!!
very true,the kbs continued till 2005 i think, they used to commute as far as limuru , ndenderu etc very reliable and timely, they even introduced a megarider card in 90s but corruption failed it, so Nairobi could be very far ahead if there was a vision to that.

That was a raw deal,the real matatu culture is on Rongai road and some ngong buses that use the by pass,Buruburu routes and south B
