If you're a Cricut beginner you may not know about Ironing on wood. It is possible and fun when you get the hang of it, but there are rules to follow. There are lots of Cricut hacks for how to successfully Iron on wood. If you've had a bad experience using HTV on wood, you may have been making some of these mistakes. I literally just did a lot of this! I cooked all of the paint on my round. I used my big heat press
Sandpaper was originally graded by how many rocks (grit) would fit on a square inch-so….the smaller the pieces, the more would fit. Imagine 1500 tiny pieces, and you’ll see why higher numbers result in smoother finish.
That is my project for today. Paint wood rounds for Halloween door hangers!! You read my mind!!! 😂

Stupid question… if I have black heat transfer vinyl can I put my vinyl on wood first and then stain the wood after?
Can I iron on wood then poly coat to use vinyl? Or can I just paint then be able to use both?

is it possible to sublimate on HTV on wood. Here is what I want to do. I have a wood round that I have stained and I want to put a sublimated design for a nursery on it. However the stain is a red oak and it is a little dark, so I wondered if I could create an off set around the design and cut the offset from HTV and sublimate the design on it so it shows up?
To get rid of the blotchiness when staining your wood (especially plywood and select pine) put on a pre stain wood conditioner prior to staining.

What do you recommend for sealing it? I make signs and bookstands but I want to be able to seal the htv design on them to where they won't be affected by anything

The Dollar Tree does have sanding blocks that are pretty good :)
I strongly recommend a 160 grade to the sanding 220 it worth The money for a better quality sad paper. I've been working with wood cuting building sense a child lowes or home depot cand help you.
If using a bamboo wood coaster or ceramic tile with htv do they need to be sealed first for protection against water from cup? If so should I seal before or after htv placement? Thank you!

I’m making a lazy Susan and I bought an already stain lazy Susan and I’m going to iron on words on it but I was wondering if I can put a clear coat of something over it that won’t make letters come off
Why don’t you use permanent vinyl instead? I did it on two projects and it worked well.
Also I was wondering if you cutout words and make a stencil or you use a stencil with alphabets is there something you can use to stick stencil to wood to paint the letters on
HI was wondering if you can help me? I tried using HTV on a wood sign but when I removed the backing it left little yellow marks on the wood, any idea why this would happen? Thank You!!
I had the same thing happen. I’m wondering if I didn’t let the paint dry enough even though I thought it was dry I didn’t wait but a couple hours
@@ashleymatson6381 I gave up on doing it. I just started using the decals. I might try it again. Maybe I didn’t let the paint dry also, I don’t think I did actually.
@@smeg8557 I’m going to try again this week and let the paint dry over night. I was also using my large heat press and not the mini so maybe between those things it will work? I don’t know! I just want my stuff to look nice so I’ll keep trying I guess haha

What if I mix cotton fibers into my paint? Imma test it on dollar tree stuff!
I have a mouse sander, will that work or should I go get a block sander like you have?
Is it all Folk Art Paint that is an issue? I used the Folk Art chalk paint before trying to use HTV. I didn’t watch this first, and i failed miserably, however I was doing EVERYTHING you said not to do.

you didn't say what brand of paint not to use , the one on your table and its black cant make it out?
The smaller one is Waverly, Ink. It's my favorite black.
I made a wood round with a 4th of July cow and I painted it with white bear house paint and it worked great. I should have let it dry a little longer but it worked great.
Thanks again MGL, made a nice DTF sign for DIL, but put on iron on saying, I had painted it with White Chalk from FolkArt, so today I was upset when my letters would not stick. You answered the question. I had the adhered enough I am polycoating them later.
