You seemed a little confused when you were running low on sniper ammo and couldn't find more. There really isn't much more. You are supposed to be more reserved with your shots. Take a few out when you get into a new area, and then rush in to clean up whats left.
In this case I just liked the feel of using the sniper rifle so strategy was definitely not really in my mind. That and I was just enjoying using. Sound advice though none-the-less. I'm pretty sure when I finally get back to this game I'm at the end so it won't do me any good, but I can utilize it when I get to the other parts of the series.
