    I love how Richard captures the essence of traditional fishing; not forgetting God's beauty around him. It doesn't have to be complicated with $100,000 worth of gear. It's the same sport we enjoyed as kids.

    Here in southeast Michigan we have bluegill and red ear or shellcracker. The shellcracker were planted here in some lakes years ago to have larger panfish. Last ten to fifteen years their numbers are going up because of the invasive zebra mussels. For once the invasives have helped some fish👍

    Ran into Elmo the other day, I told him I saw ya down in the slew fishin around for somethin or other. He runned off, said somethin about the sale barn.
    I had a blessed 2-hour morning of bank fishing for bass here in northern Kansas. Caught 4 all on a weightless senko. None bigger than 2 lbs but Im just pleased to have a bite and be out enjoying God's creation.
    Water temp is still pretty cold, around 55-60 depending on the size of the water. They are getting in to a prespawn pattern but having a hard time making up their minds due to the fluctuating temps.
    Hunting and fishing are very similar. You wouldnt go fishing and only cast once, that's like sitting in a tree stand and not blowing your call. Same with fishing, you wouldnt go hunting without trying to figure out how your game is moving.
    Thanks for the video Mr Gene. Always glad to see ya.

    It’s been a slow start here in Michigan.
    For a couple of weeks I’ve been catching pike, fishing streamers on an 8wt fly rod. No wall hangers, but a couple approached. 32”.
    But just three days ago I finally put together a bluegill dinner, and it’s all because your words, “this time of year, it’s all about water temperature.”
    Sunny days, shallow slow river slough, and an early season mayfly hatch, brought a dinner into three feet of water.
    Everything is later in the north, and I know it’s “going to be all about water temperature” for the next couple weeks.
    Thanks Richard.
    I’m gonna have to start looking for pre-spawn crappies soon, and we got some real “toilet seats”.

    I was thinking about you today when I was antique shopping. Found a old rod and reel. The rods name was worn off but had a cork handle that was worn but still in pretty good shape. The reel was called a quick fire 300 by Shimano and worked like I think it should. So I thought to my self what would Richard do? Well I got both for 10 bucks. Not to shabby if I do say so my self.

    • @handcannon1388
      @handcannon1388 9 місяців тому

      I used to buy those reels, I think it was in the early 1990's. They had a "trigger" (lever) that you pulled to open the bail. They worked pretty well and only cost a little over $20 if I remember correctly.

    My older brother used to catch Shellcrackers out of a farm pond he used to be able to fish, that big of shellcracker and bigger, I’m talking 2-3 lbs and on night crawlers too, fishing on bottom. That out in Winchester Ky, he never got the chance to take me down there, the lord took him away. But that’s alright, I got plenty of good memories with him. I had a Ol buddy that worked at this farm, down in Georgetown Ky and it had a farm pond on it that had huge bluegill in it, me and him both caught probably state record bluegills out of there, 2 & 3 lbs, heck he caught one that was a little over 4 lbs.

    Holy cow! I'd bet an ounce of gold that shellcracker is a pound and a half. I caught a bullgill one time on Watts Bar on a _huge_ minnow. Those that look like brown goldfish. When I hooked it I thought, "That ain't a crappie." and I thought it was a largemouth. That bluegill was as big as both of my palms together and I was 6'4" and 215.
