  • Insta360 Ace Pro and some ideas how to use it for more refined shooting.
Edit: I found that with 49mm, the vignetting on photo setting already begins, I can see the step up ring in the corners!
Here is exactly what I used (but I now recommend a 37 to 52mm step up ring):
    - Isopropyl-Alcohol to clean the surfaces before glueing
    - Gloves to prevent skin from sticking, and glasses to protect your eyes - the glue is no joke!
Meaning with the 49mm, you can not have a second filter without the risk of vignetting in video/16:9 mode.
    BUT.
I got a 37 to 52mm step up now here, and will file down the 37mm thread, thus lowering the whole setup closer to the lens, giving me extra space.
Video follows, just be aware ;)

Interesting solution. Watching from the Philippines and thinking of picking this camera up.

For the form factor and picture options, I do not think you will regret it.
If you know your intended use, go ahead ;-)

      I can, I want to, and I did :-)
Check the description of the video again, you should find everything in there.
Easy with the glue, it sticks to fingers for days, cannot imagine what it would do on an eye ball.
Do not ask me how I know :-P

Great idea! I am hoping someone builds a cage for the camera that will handle a 52mm screw on filter.
I have them for my GoPros and they work really well.

That would be a good solution!
I would also take a replacement lenscover like aMagisn, which just comes with a 52mm thread ;-)

There is a metal cage for ace pro on Amazon that allows you to screw in 52mm lens filters too. I find the built-in non-removable lens guard on ace pro reflecting a lot of lights (low transmission rate) and probably the culprit that cause flairs when the sun is strong. I removed the lens guard with my bedroom door (clamp the lens guard with the inner door gap and then turn the camera counter clockwise to open it up), and use this cage with a Nikon NC filter (99.8% transmission with no distortion, professionally tested by folks online back in 2017) instead to protect the Leica lens inside.

    • @luminodotcity
      @luminodotcity  29 днів тому

That is, what I was hoping would show up commercially :-)
52 is a bit tight, but if you remove the protector, maybe the filter/cage can get a bit closer to the front element and thus prevent the vignetting I found happening in the corners, when using flow state stabi to the max...
The door gap cracks me up - pliers around a soft tissue will do the trick very easily :-))

@@luminodotcity Did some testings yesterday and I am now certain the flares and glares were indeed caused by the non-removable lens guard. After putting the (perfectly clean) lens guard on, the flares immediately came back under strong sunlight in certain angles.
I do not have any issue with vignetting whatsoever with any video mode/FOV combination and also with stabilization turned off, even if I stack one more filter on top it still did not happen. The filter glass kind of just sits right on top of the lens guard if you do not have it removed, and 52mm seems to provide adequate headroom for the filters. It is definitely not enough for any kind of lens hood tho, which is fine for me since the flaring issue can be solved by removing the lens guard.
Jokes aside, the door gap method is actually way more gentle and powerful at the same time than regular tools because of the huge leverage it provides and being extremely stable. Of course it works only if you can fit and clamp the item in it, and you don't mind the risk of damaging your door and door frame.

@@poyenwu Good update, thanks for sharing!
I am selling my Ace Pro though. Love the quality and user experience, I am just not using it enough to justify it living in my drawers :-)

Great video Thankyou, for vlogging in the sun what would you recommend as a stack?

    • @luminodotcity
      @luminodotcity  6 місяців тому +1

It depends what you want to achieve :)
A dipoter +2 or +3 even I would use, to have face in focus and backgrounds soft, looks classy to me.
ND can be compensated by the cameras' fast shutter speed. But movement looks more natural if that does not go above double-frame-rate.
So, I keep ND 4 and 8 around.
A polarizer is really pushing it, but if you want the sky as blue as in reality, it needs to go on top :)

Not with this mod, obviously, has to be fixed differently.
What filters would you like to use under water?
And do you care if you'd permanently attach something to your dive case?

I found both items on ebay.
Search for 'insta360 ace pro nd filter' and 'step up ring foto 37mm 49mm' (second number bigger if you want to use bigger filters, which could be smart / re:vignetting).
