      I believe the biggest learning curve is our own understanding of our preferences when presented with new options, here, in taste. The machine is capable for pressure profiles, so, one more variable to toy with than most other machines of any kind offer. But we can choose our variables, so, I for one really welcome the 58+ to my daily experience.

      Thank you for sharing that sentiment! May I share what I like most about it? Cutting the handle, so it fits easier into the brew head while the flairs' lever is down, and sanding it so fine it feels like pebbles in a lake. Or grinding out the dosing rings' inner diameter, so leveller and tamper fit through it into the basket. I am learning about wood and metal (and my limitations in honing both), while enjoying using the tools more 🙂

      @@luminodotcity couple of weeks it seems. Thanks. I’ve used pro 2 for quite a bit, so, I don’t expect much problem. Does the pro 2 have a heated brew head? Unsolicited idea re:milk: I used many hand foamers, even manual ones (= best results), but if you make coffee alone, the espresso will sit around while you are foaming the milk... I recently opted for the WMF Stelio, and am really satisfied. So simple, so easy to clean, and just before I fill the brew head with water, a click on the Stelio and both liquids are ready at the same time.

    What's the edge-to-edge outside dimension of that UV-filter casing? Why not use a bigger step-up ring which fits to the outside of the casing? For the insta360 ND filters, I found a description stating they are 44 x 44 x 5.1 mm, so that would mean a step-up ring with an inner diameter of 44 mm should fit on the outside, no? Or use a 40.5 mm step up ring (to, for example, 58 mm) and grind away the 4 corners?

  • @SuperZardo

    • @luminodotcity
      @luminodotcity 2 місяці тому

      It would be different ;) Two ace pros give you no 360 image, and the stitching you'd have to do yourself somehow. More pixel density per side, yes, but way smaller frame per side as well. The X4 has two 181 degree lenses, each filming roughly 4k for half a SPHERE... Two Ace Pros have roughly thentwo 140 degree lenses (look it up, not sure exactly), but they can not 'look up' or 'look down', they film only 16:9 as the biggest aspect ratio.

  • @poyenwu

    There is a metal cage for ace pro on Amazon that allows you to screw in 52mm lens filters too. I find the built-in non-removable lens guard on ace pro reflecting a lot of lights (low transmission rate) and probably the culprit that cause flairs when the sun is strong. I removed the lens guard with my bedroom door (clamp the lens guard with the inner door gap and then turn the camera counter clockwise to open it up), and use this cage with a Nikon NC filter (99.8% transmission with no distortion, professionally tested by folks online back in 2017) instead to protect the Leica lens inside.

    • @luminodotcity
      @luminodotcity 2 місяці тому

      That is, what I was hoping would show up commercially :-) 52 is a bit tight, but if you remove the protector, maybe the filter/cage can get a bit closer to the front element and thus prevent the vignetting I found happening in the corners, when using flow state stabi to the max... The door gap cracks me up - pliers around a soft tissue will do the trick very easily :-))

    • @poyenwu
      @poyenwu 2 місяці тому

      @@luminodotcity Did some testings yesterday and I am now certain the flares and glares were indeed caused by the non-removable lens guard. After putting the (perfectly clean) lens guard on, the flares immediately came back under strong sunlight in certain angles. I do not have any issue with vignetting whatsoever with any video mode/FOV combination and also with stabilization turned off, even if I stack one more filter on top it still did not happen. The filter glass kind of just sits right on top of the lens guard if you do not have it removed, and 52mm seems to provide adequate headroom for the filters. It is definitely not enough for any kind of lens hood tho, which is fine for me since the flaring issue can be solved by removing the lens guard. Jokes aside, the door gap method is actually way more gentle and powerful at the same time than regular tools because of the huge leverage it provides and being extremely stable. Of course it works only if you can fit and clamp the item in it, and you don't mind the risk of damaging your door and door frame.

      In theory, I believe a +2 close up lens will move infinity to 0.5 m away (the far focus point, everything beyond that will be blurry) and a +3 close up lens will move infinity to 0.33 cm. And a +5 lens will move infinity to 20 cm. The higher the diopter, the narrower the usable intervall between near focus point and far focus point. • @luminodotcity
      @luminodotcity 4 місяці тому

      Frankly, a different camera. Action cams do not have a zoom lens. The 'zoom' is done via using a smaller, inside area part of the image sensor. The same way cropping works, when you cut a photo to emphasize its middle area. You lose pixels then, which in most cases is diminishing picture quality (unless you know exactly what pixel-per-area-ratio='resolution' you need for your purpose. A zoom lense always uses the full sensor with all pixels, by changing the angle of light directed at it. Again, action cams do not have this 'optical' zoom capability, so, cropping is your only chance here. As an aside: The ace pro is unique as it actually usues an 8K sensor. When not 'cropped in', it uses all pixels on it, but 'mixes' every four pixels into one, giving a very sharp 4K image out. If you double tap/'crop', the cam uses only the inside !/4th surface area of the sensor, each pixel once, to give you a 2x 'zoomed' image out, which STILL has 4K resolution though ;)

    Hey, thanks for making this video. Possibly the first and only video on UA-cam that does this. This is a great experiment, however I would suggest that you put objects or at least pictures at different distance checkpoints. Maybe a pen at 20cm, a fruit at 40cm and a printed mug at 60cm, with the end of the ruler at 75-ish cm as it is in the video right now. Then we will be able to accurately tell if things at those distances are in focus with each diopter. Right now the video does not have objects of reference.

    • @luminodotcity
      @luminodotcity 6 місяців тому

      You might be kidding, but I can not be sure. So: Microphones are transducers, the translate air pressure differentials in very weak alternating electric current. If you hold a microphone into a stream of oncoming air, it can not properly do its job, as the tiny and thin membrane which reacts to the changes in air pressure is already overwhelmed. It's physics, I did not make that up. You could mount a mic into a (closed!) helmet, keeping the transducer close to your pressure wave generator (mouth/throat area) and out of the oncoming wind. As per your direct request, no, I am not going to test it as I already know the results ;)

      It depends what you want to achieve :) A dipoter +2 or +3 even I would use, to have face in focus and backgrounds soft, looks classy to me. If you have a lot of (sun) light, it can be compensated by the cameras' fast shutter speed. But movement looks more natural if that does not go above double-frame-rate. So, I keep ND 4 and 8 around. A polarizer is really pushing it, but if you want the sky as blue as in reality, it needs to go on top (and it needs to be turnable 360 degrees, the fixed one-offs are useless :)

    • @luminodotcity
      @luminodotcity 6 місяців тому

      Oddly, I can not see that delay in other clips recorded with the X3. The footage shot while biking is fine (enough to not be an issue). Will have to investigate. Also, as stated, with the Razer BT mic the delay even in my test is negligable.

    thanks for the video. will the 62mm adapter be better than the 52mm?

    • @luminodotcity
      @luminodotcity 6 місяців тому

      It depends, 52mm is fine if you do not put more than one filter on it and/or do not use stabilisation (flow state). 62mm is bigger of course, but if that does not disturb in your use case, it leaves more room for more filters or some camera shake, before the edges of the filter will show up in your film ;)

      the original glass from the cheapo square UV cover, is it easily removed? what is the technique? i am have a 39-52 adapter with quick shipping, it will work? do you recommend dremel to the 39mm thread. @@luminodotcity

      Easily removed,wear protection for your eyes and hands, press out (back to front), dont cut yourself. Scrape out rest of glue and glass with a flat screwdriver. If you dremel a 39mm, there might not be much inner circumference left to glue onto, but you can estimate this when all parts are in front of you.

      Threads being printed as well? If so, it does not compare, because printed threads are not up there yet in smoothness and durability, compared to cut ones in metal. But hey, I am all for more and easy ideas to improve the heck out of small, capable tools!

    • @luminodotcity
      @luminodotcity 7 місяців тому

      That is an excellent question, Sir. But I am afraid a highly subjective one. I believe if you want the best picture quality and stabilization in this form factor AND love sharp close focus (which no action cam has out of the box, cuz, physics), then yes, totally worth it. You can also wait a couple of weeks, as I am sure some brands will come up with a product that has no diy elements to it :-)

      @luminodotcity 7 місяців тому

      It depends what you want to achieve :) A dipoter +2 or +3 even I would use, to have face in focus and backgrounds soft, looks classy to me. ND can be compensated by the cameras' fast shutter speed. But movement looks more natural if that does not go above double-frame-rate. So, I keep ND 4 and 8 around. A polarizer is really pushing it, but if you want the sky as blue as in reality, it needs to go on top :)

      @@MiyagisRant Sure! I just noticed heavy vignetting in the corners even with 52mm Diopter plus an ND, especially when moving the cam a little so the flow-state kicks in. Hence me going for 62mm in the future, with the option of stepping up to my "big boy" array of 77mm film lenses. Might be overkill, but somethings' gotta be done - such a brillian sensor and layout, this Ace Pro 🙂

    • @MiyagisRant
      @MiyagisRant 7 місяців тому

      @@luminodotcity vignetting is norm for any dioptre or close up lens, that's the drawback, you'll the close focusing but it'll lose out in the background. Not much you can do about that, that's just a characteristics of these lenses. The best lens to use for a good balance focus is using a +2, +4 will kill the background a lot more.

    • @luminodotcity
      @luminodotcity 7 місяців тому

      @@MiyagisRant I meant vignetting as in, shading of the image corners or even seeing the actual ring of the filter in those corners. This is of course a matter of how big said ring is chosen to be in relation to focal length of the camera lense, and how close we get the filter ring (diopter, nd, all of those) to that camera lense. I assure you, no vignetting at all at 77mm filter thread. And 62mm should be doing it quite nicely. Vid follows ;)
