The fact the you still cant give battle exp to non-party members is a huge bummer when you have such a HUGE cast. Especially when you love the franchise and its cast, but have to resort to using just one team, unless you want to grind your heart out, which I don't have the patience for.
Been playing 20 hours and have to say I disagree on this - I think its super clever the way they encourage you to switch up your party every other battle, through those "special screenings" and the (seemingly) random expressions of enthusiasm before you enter the labyrinth. Also you can pick up these growth accelerants that boost weaker members up to the current highest status, so now literally all of my cast members are pretty much at the same level
I can empathize with this. When I pulled out my 3DS from storage, not only did I have to dust it, but I had to charge it for a while since the charge was totally empty 🤣
I recived my "show time edition" yesterday, the only thing i hate is having to stop playing in order to go to school. The game is challanging to even veterans even in normal dificulty, specially at the begining when you pretty much run out of sp after a few battles and even thought i could go and challenge the first boss battle i find myself not being able to beat a FOE yet, so i'm gridding and making better personas until i can.
As you're aware about the themes in Persona, Q2 shares this also. I'm not familiar with 1 and 2, but... Not a spoiler, but I found it very interesting that the most recent Persona game is taking on modern day problems that really hit home, I love this series a lot.
I think PQ2 theme is more Individuality, due to how much the movie themes are about repressing the individual, which also interplays with P5 due to how Joker is the central point instead of how PQ let you choose either Door-kun or Yu, since in this the Freedom and rebellion of the P5 cast is the main changing aspect of the movies
@@UZXCrimsonAvenger yeah, what sells me more that the theme is individuality is the boss battle theme, if you listen to the lyrics, it goes as to say how much harder is to stand out from others than simply following them, and all that coupled with other stuff, it really gives the impression of such, since depression isnt far off but i would say falls short compared how the game treats individuality
Though depression is a big part of one character specifically and it helps to explain why they act the way they do, individually is basically the theme for the entire game with a sprinkle of Persona 5’s breaking free from the chains of society theme.

Exp share is a must for me in a lot of RPGs, but I realize that it’s a design choice than something that should be a necessity. Slight Persona Q and Q2 Spoilers Ahead I loved Persona Q2 much more than the first one, especially considering their poster girls. Rei was great and her backstory was heart-wrenching but I related much more to Hikari and her pain and while she wasn't special like Rei was, that made her more endearing to me. She could still turn her life around and despite just being a normal girl among many who were stuck in Nagi's cinemas, she rose up to fight back and help others who feel her pain gain the strength to reject Nagi's films as well. Rei had my eyes tearing up while Hikari got me bawling.

@@BacklogBattle I caved. I bought the game after all and I can tell you I don't regret it. The first person view doesn't ruin the game on this occasion at all. A shame it wasn't released on Switch though as the game looks beautiful as it is on 3DS so just imagine it in full HD.
Man, my order was supposed to arrive today, but it's seems like my delivery service is not able to read housenumbers or even drive through my street... Hopefully it will arrive tommorrow, really excited to play this game!
Do I need to play persona 5 to understand the story? I have never played a persona game and this is the only one I can play bc I dont have a playstation.
It’s a game targeted towards fans of the series, but you get a pretty good cliff notes version of each character’s personality and story. That said, you can still understand what’s happening and you don’t need to have played Persona to enjoy PQ2!
An endurance fight is a type of battle where your usual strategies won’t work, as the kinds of attacks the enemies employ are there to deliberately slow down the pace of battle. For example, in the fight I mentioned, the boss gets two turns (instead of one), with one highly damaging attack hitting multiple party members in the front row and one random attack that can KO a character with less than 100HP. Also, in the later part of the fight, trying to All Out Attack the boss will have him cast an ability that prevents players from using an element he’s weak to to down him for several turns. Because of these designs, a single endurance fight typically lasts longer than most other boss fight in the game and you have to “endure” the boss’ attacks much longer as a result.
Not a fan of first person. Plus it has no English voicing? No thanks. Shame, because i love the persona series. But thanks for the review. You saved me some cash.
How's the combat? I was a little bit disappointed with the first PQ because IIRC the combat was much more Etrian Odyssey than Persona which means targeting enemy weakness meant just more damage instead of the usual simple yet very rewarding press turn system Persona always had. To me this design made PQ literally just a reskin of an EO instead of a crossover that uses mechanics from both games.
Backlog Battle actually no, when u hit an enemies weakness it guarantees a knock down and hitting everyones weakness gives the all out attack. In pQ if u hit an enemies weakness it just deals more damage and maybe a knock down at times
The person is asking for the press turn system, which guarantees an extra attack from the same party member after hitting their weakness. In that sense, it’s slightly different but it’s essentially the same. But you’re right - it’s not exactly how it was in PQ.
Backlog Battle ah yah the extra attack right after u hit the weakness ur right, I completely forgot about that in persona since it’s been a long while. My bad
The first game sucked. And this looks it’s the same crap again. No English VA and on a very outdated device, this is a pass. If it was on the Switch and had English dub, I’d consider it.
It's not crap but IMHO the 1st person view in dungeons is a letdown for me as I was never a fan of that. I'll be sticking to the main games as this game is just ok IMHO.

Hmm I don't like playing in 1st person tbh so I won't be bothering with this. I'll stick to the main games.
It’s certainly not for everyone. But at least there’s Royal coming next year!
@@BacklogBattle I caved. I bought the game after all and I can tell you I don't regret it. The first person view doesn't ruin the game on this occasion at all. A shame it wasn't released on Switch though as the game looks beautiful as it is on 3DS so just imagine it in full HD.
I’m super happy you took a chance at this and glad you’re enjoying it! And yea, a Switch port would’ve been great!
Man, my order was supposed to arrive today, but it's seems like my delivery service is not able to read housenumbers or even drive through my street...
Hopefully it will arrive tommorrow, really excited to play this game!
Hope they find your house today either way! The wait will be worth it! Let me know what you think of it once you get a good feel of it! 😉
Is it canon?
From the video: “It is: but it might as well not have been”
Do I need to play persona 5 to understand the story? I have never played a persona game and this is the only one I can play bc I dont have a playstation.
It’s a game targeted towards fans of the series, but you get a pretty good cliff notes version of each character’s personality and story. That said, you can still understand what’s happening and you don’t need to have played Persona to enjoy PQ2!
@@BacklogBattle Ok thanks
If the damn SP wasn't so damn low I would have enjoyed it.
They were a bit stingy with that, weren't they
@@BacklogBattle It's not Persona until I.....I don't know...summon out Persona's while feeling confident that I still have a hell of a lot SP left.
Im not a fan of dungeon crawlers but like the atmosphere, do you think I can like it?
If you like the Persona characters too, I’d say give it a go. Atmosphere alone might not be enough.
I hate dungeon crawlers but for some reason persona pulls it off, I enjoyed Q1 and I just bought Q2 so yeah
Im not well versed in dungeon crawlers but thesr games seem fun so i recommend it
Persona Q2:played persona 5? no? then dont play it, its not worth it, spend your money on persona 5 first
Dude, what if you DONT have a ps4? Do you guys who say this every think if that
...ps3 emulators exist :3
@@TheEcoolarg Huh forgot it was on the ps3 but don't pirate games you can still get at gamestop
@@sonicboom126 dont asume I can afford it just because I speak English lol
@@TheEcoolarg Da fuq? So your saying because of your ethnicity your poor how degrating and pathetic.
Sorry what is an endurance fight?
Backlog Battle ohhhh ok, thank you, this was very helpful :)
You’re very welcome!
How do you record your 3ds?
A friend recorded it for me (name is in the credits), but it typically is through a $400 mod.
@@BacklogBattle yeah i can't find good sites for it anymore was going to ask :(
Most of them are out of business sadly 😕
@@BacklogBattle Yeah i want one so bad ;_;
This game seems awesome, while the review is awesome too! Everything is awesome here! EXCEPT the fact that the game is an exclusive. That's sad.
Right? I hope like many 3DS games that this gets a Switch port! I think you would’ve enjoyed it!
I got thw showtime edition and lemme say I have no regrets. It's such a good game. I have Q and now I have q2. Best ever.
Glad you think so! Enjoy!
This should have released on The Switch
No. No it shouldn't have, as the mapping system wouldn't work on it
Stupid MAN2488 right
Stupid MAN2488 who said I don’t have a 3Ds? That’s kind of ignorant of you to assume I don’t have a 3DS.
@@StupidMAN-fh8ch umm relax bro
Wait what? That's the point of switching party placements? Bro I played through q thinking it was useless
If that’s your takeaway, you missed the point of that whole paragraph
I preordered it and am picking it up tomorrow!
Hope you enjoy it!
I'm ordering this today! I hope it ships soon...
Hope you enjoy it! It’s a great game!
I literally can't stop playing the game rn
Glad you’re enjoying it! It’s so good!
Found another great review, subscribed!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the review!
If I never played a persona or any similar games can I still have a fun time in this game on a lower difficulty
Yes! You can certainly enjoy it separate from the mainline Persona games and still find it challenging at a lower difficulty!
Youll still enjoy it however if you want to play the mainline games after there will be minor spoilers (Im only at end of the 2nd dungeon)
Great comprehensive review man! I really want to play this! Are there any Persona 5 spoilers in it? I haven’t finished it yet.
Thanks for watching! There aren’t any actually, so go and enjoy the game!
Will I be missing something or spoiled if I haven't played persona 3?
Nope! You’re good! No spoilers here!
Not a fan of first person. Plus it has no English voicing? No thanks. Shame, because i love the persona series.
But thanks for the review. You saved me some cash.
First! Love your content bro
Thanks!!
It’s still pretty much that I’m afraid, so if you didn’t like that system, you might not like this one either 🙁
Are you serious? PQ is just Etrian Odyssey with Persona skins...
T W O S C R E E N S
Your just salty
We're actually lucky to get these games. ATLUS is not a big company.
It'll be near impossible to get sn English dub unless you want mostly new voice actors and relax, this is the last name on the 3DS
It's not crap but IMHO the 1st person view in dungeons is a letdown for me as I was never a fan of that. I'll be sticking to the main games as this game is just ok IMHO.
dropped this game cause i couldnt pass (spoilers)
hikaris dungeon im so stuck can anyone help me im at area 5
Good video! Gained a sub
