    In Hiromi's hands are the legacies of every piano player from Corea to Peterson to Zawinul to Hancock to McPartland to Evans to any of the legends. You are hearing a legend...and she is only 35.

      I really couldn't agree more. An old, experienced and extremely talented piano performer and jazz musician, inside a tiny beautiful young girl, with a huge connection to music. Jazz is safe in her hands.

    • @mohitoness
      @mohitoness 10 років тому +4

      she's got a fiery virtuosity for sure, some guy in the paper compared her to tatum the other day even, that's a little far fetched though... maybe easier to compare if there were more solo recordings of her, but they're hard to find

      You can't really compare her to the greatest jazz pianists because she isn't really improvising anywhere. All she is doing she's playing her arrangements. Better equivalent would be Lang Lang of modernmusic.

    I loved it all. Hiromi always looks like she is really enjoying what she is doing. The others do, to. Aesthetically the guitar player was right on, and yes, the drummer was insane. That's as it should be. Shades of Buddy Rich...even better.

    I think the funniest part for those of you who have picked on this guitarist, he is almost always mirroring the notes the hiromi is playing. With relatively few exceptions, she is playing just as beautifully "out of key" as he is. Pay attention to her notes, they're not any less abnormal. And I love them both SO much.

    There is no praise high enough for someone who has raised the ART to a new height and glory. Hiromi is the human manifestation of the energy of pure sound. The band are all virtuoso's of the highest caliber, wisely chosen for their supreme abilities and depth of feeling.

  • @barryschwarz

    Oh that's superb! Hiromi plays with so much empathy for the other players, matching tone and rhythm But she clearly loves playing with the drummer best of all. She tracks his rhythm so tightly in a few sections, challenges him, and challenges most just before the solo. It's sublime communication through music.

  • @maryblack1356

    She can deliver such subtle emotions and nuanced meaning through sounds - it's phenomenal, really as if she's speaking from stage. Very rarely music reflects so much character of the performer.

    Fiuczynski's playing never made it into my heart. When I hear him in comparison with this highly emotional playing from the trio (pianos, bass, drums), putting their soul and heart like it is their last day, I get concious again why...

    • @JohnsDough1918
      @JohnsDough1918 8 років тому +3

      I don't see how his playing isn't as passionate as the other players on stage. His way of expression may be stranger, with an healthy dose of non-western musical vocabulary, but is still very intense to my ears.

    • @soulguitar77
      @soulguitar77 8 років тому

      I love eastern music and exotic and oriental scales/harmonies. I was less talking about his melodic work then about the energy. For me is as or even more important HOW you play something than WHAT, it comes in my mind for example how he plays the theme of Caravan...But luckily tastes are different and this makes this planet interesting ;)

    Stellar, Hiromi and this whole band is smokin' hot. Guitarist is doing some interesting "microtonal" stuff on that fretless neck; it reminds me of Shakti. It's definitely hard to mix that, and a piano tuned in a standard way. It's going to sound a little "off" depending. Not a reflection of his skill, as some of the uncharitable comments in here suggest (*smh*, do try it yourself!).
