      @E BO But that was for marketing. Kobe's & Vince's games looked like Jordan's, whereas Penny was stylistically more like Bernard King or Dwyane Wade. I can't see top-20 potential for Grant Hill, as Scottie Pippen reached his full potential (or close to it), and he's top-30 at most. Hill's potential wasn't more than Pippen's. Their overall skill-sets are totally comparable. Top-30 potential for Grant.

    • @maryakopyan3224
      @maryakopyan3224 5 років тому +1

      @E BO I can't possibly see Grant being the defender that Pippen was, cause he was such a nice guy. Both had shaky jumpers that they could hit when in rhythm. Athletically, it's a wash. Lengthwise, basically a wash. Both could handle the ball and make plays for other people. Pippen craftier in the post, Hill had craftier dribble moves. If we wanna go real deep, Hill may have had just a slightly purer stroke from mid range. Both could rebound, but Scottie was more fierce in the clutch at just saving a ball, or coming up w/ the all-important block, like he did against Danny Ainge in the Finals. Both are modest good guys, but Scottie to me had more of the intangibles.

    Till this day 90% of basketball fans don´t realize how good Penny was. You could´ve put conversation from Open Court where 3D is speaking about those finals against Rockets. In the time between conf finals and finals Shaq was recording a album, Penny and Nick shopping in the mal, 3D on a jet ski cruising. They were to young and thought when they beat Bulls, finals would be easy because they won against Huston in regular season. On other episode Shaq said he was actually begging Brian Hill to stop doubbling Hakeem. He´ll get his 35, I´ll get my 30 so it´s a wash, he said and he was not wrong.
    Shaq left Orlando because hel felt dissrespected by the oranisation saying he ain´t worth 100mills. Orlando pokered on that nobody would be ready to give him that money. Than Mr. Logo came into the game and got rid of almost all Lakers players just to get Shaq. Yes Orlando made a bigger offer afterwards but damage on their relationship was allready done

      @@sonnyc2539 He never peaked as high as Kobe or Lebron, because of the injuries. You could argue that Wade peaked as high as Kobe as an overall player, Lebron a smidgen more cause he's the size of Karl Malone w/ Jordan's moves. This doesn't mean Lebron has accomplished necessarily more than Kobe overall, definitely not more than Jordan overall, just that he peaked higher during the regular season than Kobe (yes-including the 35ppg season). Penny was only beginning to hit his prime when injuries robbed him of an illustrious career. He never got to peak. I don't know that Penny was more explosive than Wade? Wade had a 39in vertical & ran a 4.3 40 at his athletic peak. I think athletically they're a wash. Penny was 3in taller, but Wade was thicker. Both have graceful point guard's post-up moves, both are a nightmare for smaller point guards to defend in the high-post. And if we want to look at stats, you'll find that Penny was projecting about the same as Wade through his 1st 3 healthy seasons (pre-injuries). Both played 3 seasons of college ball, which was why their footwork was so polished.

    Great video as always.
    But I'm still unsure whether Shaq left Orlando because of their egos clashing. Going to LA was just the best business decision for Shaq.
    Suffice to say, it paid off.

    • @flash7mcartathefundamental31
      @flash7mcartathefundamental31 5 років тому +18

      To add on, if you check out 30 for 30: Magic Moment, you know Shaq didn't leave because of ego problems. He left because Miami Heat offered Alonzo a lot of money while the Orlando Magic wasn't going to pay him as the Heat did for Alonzo. When the Lakers offered him that much money he accepted it. When the Magic offered more money it was too late because he already made up his mind.

      They were both just reaching their prime pre-career-changing knee injuries, but Penny looks to post up smaller point guards in the half-court set a lot, like Dwyane Wade. Penny likes to spin way more, whereas DRose is almost all drive & cut. I'd agree that Penny had the marginally better court vision, was more efficient, less of a volume scorer (partly cause he was deferring to Shaq-sucks that Shaq didn't appreciate him more). Penny's game looked way more like Dwyane Wade's overall, both in the half-court & transition.

    100% unrelated, but could you make a video on Udonis Haslem and his career in Miami ? Specifically, how he’s managed to stay on the team for this long and becoming a household name without really being THAT impactful on the court. At least not that impactful relative to his time there

      haslem was pretty good on jumpers rebounds one on one defense for years...hes a pick and roll/pop master....he knew how to play without the ball...hes tough and a big reason why miami loves him is hes a hometown kid that lost his moms and stayed in miami for less when he was being offered more money to leave in 2010...he was out of shape undrafted and while a stud at flordia his attitude was questioned...he was found by riley in Europe and then lost about 75 pounds put on muscle and the rest is history
