  • Fox Dens | How to Identify a Fox Den
    Fun Fox Shirts 🦊👚 allthingsfoxes.com/shop
Fox dens have entrances that are about 7-8 inches in diameter. They build them in areas that have brush, woods, or boulders. The fox den can have multiple entrances and have more than one dugout area inside.

Fox dens are also called fox earths, and fox burrows. They can be anywhere from 10-70 feet long. Some of the fox dens are inherited, and some are stolen from other animals.

Thanks. We have a den under our back garages and we’re very lucky to watch the kits grow last spring :)

This animal is clever. It has its own society and food reserves.

I have this 1 foot long hole underneath a pine tree in my backyard, I'm still not sure if it's a fox den or a rabbit hole, however I still do occasionally see foxes in my yard

We live on two wooded acres. This year, our foxes had three kits. They're so cute to watch. Luckily, we don't have any more pets, so we don't contribute to their food chain. They made one den under our shed. Two more in our wooded area. I wonder how they keep their dens dry. We live in the wettest city in the US and are dealing with hurricane rain now. I'm guessing the foxes have adapted to our weather and dig a drainage area into their dens. Just curious. Thanks for your video.

Anybody that would welcome a fox den, I would recommend letting a corner of your property get very brushy, the denser the better. If they can feel hidden in the foliage, and it’s a spot that dogs can’t reach, they may go for it.

    Hey.
I am amateur photographer interested in foxes.
In the recent years I was trying to find dens in woodlands with no luck, even though I made some great shots.
In the last week not far away from my home I noticed a couple of kits usually hanging around in the same spot during the night next to a road.
I am trying to find the den but the terrain is really difficult to climb. Do you think that the den must be close to the road? How far kits go away from the den?
    Thanks for any info.

My cat who normally only spends 1 minute outside before going back in has disappeared completely. Three days before it happened, a red fox failed to snatch one of our chickens in front of the house because I ran out to chase it away.
Could the fox have taken my cat? It's very out of character for my cat to wander away. She's about 3 years old.

I would be very surprised. A fox looks bigger than a cat but they typically weigh less than the average house cat. A cat, with all its claws in addition to teeth, would be an animal that could badly hurt the fox and even kill it. Most predators don’t take on other predators, especially one that is as big as they are.

Hey Malu, yes foxes do make dens in trees! In hollowed out trees, tree stumps, and underneath them.

Grats on the video. I'm sure you've learned a few things since, but maybe one day you can go back and re-edit this one, because if there's any constructive criticism to offer, I just want to say that the only thing that's really sort of, off-putting, is when you get into a new subject/section, like "How deep is the fox den" or "the common fox den", and it's just a blank screen with the title of the section, while you talk and we're supposed to listen. This is super boring. You should at least do a little slide-show of some images of the dens or do a little animation showing the different types of depths and tunneling, how there can be multiple entrances, or sections where they will store food or for other things. Anything other than a blank screen. Otherwise, nice video.

I'm not giving away any information that isn't just a google search away. I get a lot of questions from "good" people who want to know more about dens on their property, which is why I made this video. Bad people suck, but good people need information too. 👍
