  • NASA Reveals What's HIDING in the Kuiper Belt? What is the Kuiper Belt? First proposed by astronomer Gerard Kuiper, The Kuiper Belt is an asteroid belt at the edge of our solar system. Gerard Kuiper proposed the Kuiper Belt long before Pluto was discovered. The Kuiper Belt consists of rocks, ice, and a few dwarf planets, including Pluto. The other dwarf planets found included Eris, Makemake, Quaoar, and Haumea, all dwarf planets. The most mysterious Kuiper Belt Object discovered so far is the 'space snowman', Arrokoth. NASA New Horizons probe witnessed the Arrokoth flyby and took some amazing images of the mysterious Kuiper Belt Object. What else did New Horizons see in the Kuper Belt? In this video, we explain the Kuiper Belt and take you inside the Kuiper Belt, to meet the objects discovered in the Kuiper Belt, and show you why the Kuiper Belt is important. Enjoy the great Kuiper Belt facts!

Awesome explaining of a possible confusing subject. I didn't know anything about the Kuiper Belt. I would like to see more on the Kuiper belt. It cool that some of the objects have their own little moons. COOL!

We have so very much to learn about our own solar system, let alone our galaxy. So far it's been like me doing a personality study of my neighbors at the end of the block from my backyard.

Nice video, A pity that (as in many representations) the visuals present a dense belt of objects, colliding in space. The average distance between objects in the Kuiper belt is around 1 Astronomical unit (=distance Earth-Sun), the graphics of the belt are therefore unfortunate. Space is vaste.

They are called “binary” because there two of them orbiting each other, not because “it’s difficult to distinguish which” is which. Further, a binary system may be two stars, not big moon and little moon. Little things really detract from the video.

Funny to see the images of all these odd shaped parts. When in fact if you were on one of these objects you couldn’t see another with the naked eye eye

I agree objects that are as large as Pluto that have formed into perfect or near perfect spherea with their own moons should in fact be called planets.

Why do all the planets orbit on the plane of the eliptic? Why don't any orbit perpendicular? Is that weird? Huh. "Remember, no matter where you go, there you are." ~Peter Weller in the 8th dimension...

Pluto is #9. Planet X is likely too far out for us to detect, unless Voyager finds it, before it runs out of juice. But Pluto _is_ a planet, and Pluto is also Goofy's dog, which is weird, considering that Goofy is a dog...

Pluto - Charon is then a binary, according to your definition. While Sol & Jupiter also orbit each other, their center of mass is still inside the Sun. But what about Earth - Moon?

@Spaced Out : I have often wondered about the pronunciation of the word "KUIPER" & its' origins.
I now know it is a Dutch Surname & is being mispronounced.
Dutch pronounce all their vowels & in the original Greek/Roman sounds.
Therefore, Kuiper is pronounced "ku/Koo" in "ip" as in "lip" &"er".
Itcsounds similar to the word "creeper" than "Kyper", which is how the Dutch would spell your pronunciation.

The density of the asteroid belt and the kuiper belt as shown in the pictures is in no way reflective of the sparse density of both. Spacecraft can fly through the asteroid belt safely rarely encountering an asterid.

My best mate, Binston, has a dad who's a scientist. I thought I'd ask him about aliens, but almost immediately he started babbling on about how the moon is "gay" and how Mars "is a bit. ch". I left him to his rambling.
Binston won't talk about it. As soon as I bring his dad up he gets irritated and changes the subject.

Even farther out in the Oort Cloud There is estimated to be far more objects. It's also possible that's where the extraterrestrials have their bases to keep an eye on what's happening on Earth.

You could have provided a conversion to the metric system for the majority of humankind (including several English-speaking countries) that has long abandoned such archaic Barbarian measuring units as miles. English is the international language of communication, and you shouldn't assume that your viewers all come from English-speaking countries that stubbornly use that impractical and backwards measuring system.
Also, Makemake was not named after a repeated English verb. It was named after a primordial god in the Rapa Nui (Easter Island) creation myths, and as such it's pronounced "MAH-keh-MAH-keh". The amount of time and research needed to make a video like this one could certainly leave room for a little much welcome attention to detail.

I'm always a little disappointed when I hear emotive dialogue in science programmes, e.g. 'Pluto was demoted'!
Pluto was recategorized into a more useful class of description, i.e. Dwarf Planet, after new, more refined, information had been discovered.

I dont care what Neil DeGrasse Tyson and the other idiot scientist's say, pluto is a planet. Its not a Trans Neptunian Object. It's sister planet Charon should be considered the 10th planet in the solar system. They both have an atmosphere and moons, that makes them planets, a binary planet system, but they are still planets.

  • @vickid9035

I disagree with scientist. Pluto is a planet, and it always will be a planet, and the other objects that are as biggest Pluto are also planets, so the scientific community can wrap that around their heads because that’s where I was torn in school and that’s where I’ll go by and I graduated in 97
