This track was all about Em showing off - every verse he shows that he's mastered a different cadence. People mistake it for just fast rapping, but there's a lot more to it than that.
Exactly! He changes his cadence constantly in this track! Not many do more than 1 cadence a song, let alone a couple times a verse.

When he went "Super sonic" he was paying respect to Dr. Dre and the group are produced named J.J. Fad. He incorporated their flow or in this case, he downloaded their flow and cadence.

But I always say, the most overlooked line is the one about his lyrics being "tongue in cheek". Because so many people take a lot of his lyrics too literally.
He's often accused of being homophobic, but those same people ignore the fact that he's super close to Elton John, who actually helped him get clean.
You should watch their live performance of Stan at the Grammys. It's considered one of the most epic live performances in Grammy history. Also the interview Elton John did on the Graham Norton Show regarding Eminem.

This is a powerful line, because it's the opposite of what other people do, when they reach a certain level of accomplishment, or success, they think they got it all and then they become complacent and stop going because they "believe" they got it all, and then they eventually lose something more valuable. Eminem basically came from nothing and look where he is now because of hard work and Perseverance, and even after success he's still going.
Interesting, Genius says the lyrics are "Above You" but above me defiantly sounds like the deeper way to look at it

Eminem's music is so important to me because our histories are similiar. My mom was never on drugs but she was emotionally abusive and was willing to leave me behind to live the life she wanted. I've only met my dad a handful of times and wish I hadn't. I love Em and rap because the music its real and isn't afraid to adddress things like that. I rap myself but im obviously no where near his level
I hope you are doing good now man. Eminem's music really resonates so much when life is at its hardest.

I watched your first reaction to Em and Ive watched nearly, if not all of your reactions to him since. I've loved watching you discover what Em is all about and watching your shift from preconceived biases to understand, acceptance and even appreciation of his genius.
To be in the rock'n roll hall of fame you have to have been an active artist for at the very least 25 years to just have the oppotunity to be nominated. This year is the first year that he even has had the chance. I don't know when the ceramony takes place or if it already has, but i do know that i saw that he was one of if not THE favorite artist to be inducted this year! And if so, he would be one of the few to do so this quickly!

I have heard this song probably 100s of times and i just caught that when he says "when u combine up here with the skin color of mine" hes not just saying he was held back by race but also speaking on how he got so much bigger than all the other rappers because of his race, another new em double for me

And in turn it also got him in more hot water because it put a bigger spotlight on him too (hence the lines that follow about getting censored on the Columbine references). So being a white rapper got him cut down in the black community in a lot of ways (especially early on but there are still people in the black community that look at him a token white guy), boosted him up in the white community and also put everything he said under a microscope. Other rappers were saying things that were just as controversial, but his lyrics got banned and got him kicked off radio channels and MTV. He was kicked around a lot for just who he is. Luckily he had the backing of Dre and that gave him a lot of cred.

@@larryshair your right, he went “supersonic” which was a song by a girl group called JJ FAD in the 80s and they had a song called supersonic which is the style he was paying homage too.
This track is all about Em acknowledging that he is indeed the goat.The story telling, past influences, past tragedys including ones he been thru. All while changing cadences like crazy. That Columbine bar tho!

If I can suggest something to you (other than continuing this amazing journey) it is to watch a couple of reactions of the "pros" picking apart Em's lyrics. Do it off the record maybe (although a reaction to a reaction might also be great? 😝), and maybe don't go too deep into it to not spoil the further experiences for yourself. But I do think that if you were to watch a couple of break-downs of maybe songs you've already listened to, it would give you an even better template for when you get into the following songs. There are many that I could recommend, but mostly I'd like to point you towards Knoxx Hill. He gets in the deepest.
For that matter, why not listen to one of Knoxx's songs? 😉

I think should start listening to some of his more “lighthearted” songs which can be very entertaining like Without Me or The Real Slim Shady they are some interesting songs. I don’t think you have seen that side of Em yet I’m excited to see your reaction.
I was just thinking about how this was like his first introduction to the non-serious side of Em which is such a huge part of him lol. Aside from his brilliance, he's also a fucking committed, funny ass entertainer and I'm obsessed w that side of him just as much as his genius

That used to be my favorite Em song simply because of how ridiculous it is, and the references are easy to get and pick up on. Just a funny silly song.

just to let you know, that was a freestyle. that means he didn't write any of that down, he just rapped over the music off the top of his head.
He said that, but I’m most positive Eminem did not freestyle that for real. There’s too many layers for that to be a “freestyle off the top of the dome piece while I was asleep on the couch”. He also did an interview with Zane Lowe and you can tell he’s being sarcastic about it.

This is my new favorite reaction channel without a doubt. Trust me man no one will be peeved if you don't catch all the bars. I've been listening to eminem for 15 years or so and I'm still catching some stuff from his first few albums I've been missing for years. I'm not gonna lie, I've grown up listening to Em. I haven't understood many of the lyrics in these videos until I've gotten older and understood some of the references. Honestly you've actually helped me understand some of the Godly references. Keep up the reactions!
I can recommend three very deep and in his discography important songs from the 2010 album "Recovery" where he's talking about the loss of his friend Proof and overcoming his drug addiction. Nontheless the other two songs give a great insight to his feelings during that time.
And then there's "Guts Over Fear" ua-cam.com/video/0AqnCSdkjQ0/v-deo.html which is from 2014 (same year as "Headlights") where he is refering to "Not Afraid" once. A reflecting and motivational song and this one also has an offical video and is popular.

His quote "to help get some people through tough times" is actually on spot. Around 10 years ago i had depression and i had a feeling i dont want to live in this world anymore but listening his music kept me from committing suicide.

All the references you miss are nice ads for the hip hop fans, but his messages are usually universal. That's why he crossed borders easily.
When you are about a year into hip hop, go back and relisten to Em. After you develop the ear, and see Em for what he REALLY is (as an MC), you’ll be able to fully appreciate his genius.
The vast majority of people that think Em isn’t talented, actually just have most of what he does going over their head. It becomes too complicated to explain every detail of a song full of bars. It’s just easier to say: “Nah, man. You’re just an idiot”.
