    For the question at about 5:00, I found it easier to spot and think of the sequence of each individual star in the three. So, for example, the 1st Black star becomes Blue, then Grey, Red. The 2nd: Grey, Red, White, Black. The 3rd: White, Black, Blue, Grey. By looking at the sequences aforementioned, one can spot that they all follow the same pattern. Thus, after Red, we want to find White, so it's either A or C. After Black, it's Blue, so it's definitely C. Confirmed (but not necessary), after Grey, there is Red, indeed, as C again shows.

    Hey, could you do a tutorial on questions with 3 or more moving parts. I'm having trouble with ones where you can't tell between the three parts, ie when the 3 parts are all arrows.

    Hey, thanks for this video! I just had a quick question;
    In the matrices section at 29 minutes, does the colour adding having to work for both down a column AND across a row? or as in the example, just one or other is sufficient to figure out the missing box?
    As across a row the W+G = G etc rules don't seem to hold. Thank you :)

    heya not sure if you'll still be answering but is it always the case that when a part of the figure has disappeared it's always obscured by another part of the figure as is in the case for the first question?

    Hey mate, I just watched your Pick the Middle video. Would you recommend that for Pick the Middle, I stick to memorising certain configurations for the different sided-shapes and just apply them to the questions I get? What if I get a configuration that I have never seen in the exam? Also some pick the middle questions are much more complicated than just memorising patterns?

    • @DanielMillsUMATTutoring
      @DanielMillsUMATTutoring  8 років тому

      These patterns and the pattern technique in general aren't meant to be comprehensive, just a tool that you can use for suitable questions if you've memorized them

  • @IWantToStayAtYourHouse
    @IWantToStayAtYourHouse 6 років тому

    8:13 I found a different pattern, A C D B E. The white alternates between moving clockwise once and twice. The black alternates between moving clockwise three times, then moving anticlockwise 2 times

    Hey in 22:14 wouldn’t the answer be A? Since the one at the end of the double section is always the middle?

  • @YaseenRocca
    @YaseenRocca 9 років тому

    For the question at 25:26, shouldn't the shape in the middle cell at the bottom row (currently looking like a W), actually have a horizontal line at the top?
    The triangle at the top does not provide an upper horizontal line that can be common with the rectangle's upper line, if you see what I mean.

    Hello,
    I just wanted to ask a question. Is the rule that the sequence of the letters for both the black and white dots must be the same or is the rule the middle letter of both must be the same? Because Black = B D C A E and White = E B C A D work also using the 1,2,3 and 4 method. However only the middle letter is the same not the entire sequence. I hope that I am making sense.
    Thank you,
    Rhe

    For the segment question, shouldn't the square be the inner middle, trapezium outside square with triangle the outer most? So option B?

    • @DanielMillsUMATTutoring
      @DanielMillsUMATTutoring  9 років тому +1

      Tony Option B could be potentially right if the trapezium was grey and the square was white (as opposed to the other way around), as the ordering of the colours (black, grey and white moving from the outermost shape to the innermost) is consistent in opposite segments.

    • @tonvarg
      @tonvarg 9 років тому

      Thanks, but why is the square of the outside? Shouldn't triangle be on the outside-most shape?

    • @DanielMillsUMATTutoring
      @DanielMillsUMATTutoring  9 років тому +2

      Tony Have a look/listen from about 34:40 - imagine a line running horizontally through the middle of the big segment wheel. In any pair of two opposite segments, in order to form the image shown in the lower segment, the shapes in the upper segment all get smaller, with the innermost shape the only exception, becoming bigger and becoming the outermost shape in the lower segment. This means that in the segment with the question mark, the outermost shape should be the square, followed by the triangle, with the trapezium in the innermost spot. If the imaginary horizontal line was instead drawn from the bottom left to the upper right, you would be right, but given this isn't a multiple choice option given you have to go for A

    • @tonvarg
      @tonvarg 9 років тому

      Yes thanks, I understand. I was doing the question as if the arrow was going down.

  • @SaberofRed
    @SaberofRed 9 років тому

    Hey, also for the test, do you recommend doing the test in order from Q1 onwards or doing it in a particular order of sections?

    • @DanielMillsUMATTutoring
      @DanielMillsUMATTutoring  9 років тому +4

      Triple8magic You can do either, personally I would go through chronologically from Q1, as this saves a lot of time flipping backwards and forwards through the paper, means you know how much of the paper you've completed at any given time, and makes it less likely for you to make a mistake filling out the answer grid.

      thanks for the tip. Did you see my other comment on section three multiple component questions?

  • @mrkhashman1
    @mrkhashman1 8 років тому

    For the 3rd question which is on matrices answer D also makes sense since the first row has 9 sides the second row has 12 sides and if you pick D the last row will have 15 sides. Whats going on?

    • @DanielMillsUMATTutoring
      @DanielMillsUMATTutoring  8 років тому

      The top row has 10 sides, and the bottom would have 16 if you picked option D

      UMAT tutor Hope to see your section 2 vid soon! And In your opinion, what raw mark will get a UMAT of 85+ percentile? Thanks :)

    • @DanielMillsUMATTutoring
      @DanielMillsUMATTutoring  10 років тому +1

      ***** Probably around 70% of questions right in Sections 1 and 2 and slightly higher in Section 3

    • @eddyge4584
      @eddyge4584 10 років тому

      UMAT tutor Thank you for replying, is getting 90 to 100 raw mark out of 134 in the ACER paper a good mark? like what percentile would that get me? Thanks

    • @DanielMillsUMATTutoring
      @DanielMillsUMATTutoring  10 років тому

      ***** Couldn't give you a definite answer because there are so many variables - that would probably be a pretty good score in the real thing, but ACER papers are usually much easier, so keep working hard and maybe see if you can push up to 110 or so
