VLDC11 - Overworld Tour

This is the overworld map for the 11th Annual Vanilla Level Design Contest from 2019.
This collab hack was originally started by AnEvilGhost in late 2020, and has been picked up by me in November 2021.
The overworld was mostly created by myself, with the help of many others, such as Kevin coding the warp pipe, and MarioFanGamer coding the highest ranking world.
The overworld also features custom sprites from vldc9, that have been re-used and modified, as well as carol's overworld sprite patch, updated by Ice Man to work with modern tools.

In VLDC7, 8, and 9, the Worst Map had munchers, while this one doesn't, and I'd like to keep it that way because munchers somehow psychologically discourages people, and this Worst Map is not only muncher-free, but a bit collective and nice.

At this point, a Worst/Lowest Scoring Map will likely be phased out entirely in any future VLDC collabs.

​@@MrDeePayfunctonally, worst/lowest score maps are useless. But they're still a nice touch. It just shows that if you try hard enough you might succeed one day. Even if it isn't today.

Honored to be in Best world. My level presentation in the map looks poor compared to others, though. However, none of those were bad at all.

Great map, I love how all the different themes connect together and the added details for each stage on the map like the cuck or the mushroom behind the bush. The music is great too.
I can't wait for the VLDC12 overworld you guys nailed this one.
Also is it just me or does the special world music sound like the Wily Stage Theme from Mega Man 4?

I understand making nice looking worlds is cool, but where is Ghost lands and even creepy worlds like in Mario Game one? Just like... A creepiness is also a part of adventure, like you falling into a weird mysterious place, and then come back to normal after a time, having guesstion like "What just happened!?"
Or ghost worlds are not part of contests?

there weren't enough haunted levels to make a haunted world, and also the creepy world in Mario Game was just edgy creepypasta BS

Seems people not making those levels too often... But ok, if we will talk about not "creepypasta" part of it, but about levels from the same Super Mario Fusion Revival, which had Castlevania X Doom X Metal Slug themed levels, i think its possible on snes but a bit downgraded, without Metal Slug but Castlevania themed levels tried Exodus To Death... Still sad that hack was canceled 😔

I meant its still 2d game, and i meant about some levels inspired by various evil and dark themed games like Castlevania, Doom etc, so Mario's Exodus To Death is SMW hack which is used alot of Castlevania tiles and some features, just like SMF:R, thats what i meant, they still spooky and still looks good, not stupid creepypasta, but seems everyone just forged about it... Castlevania recources like tiles, backgrounds and items, and some little enemies can be reprogrammed and fit into SMW game i think 🤔

This is a Super Mario World hack, not SMBX.
