  • We spent 10 days in our RV in Banff National Park campgrounds and want to share the experience with you and share travel tips we learned while we were there.
    Instagram was considering renaming itself Banffogram a while ago. Why? Because of the crazy flood of pictures of Moraine Lake, Lake Louise, Peyto Lake, Bow Lake….there’s a theme here somewhere.
    While “Banffogram” is an outright lie, the truth is that there is a crazy amount of hype surrounding Banff. So….does Banff live up to the hype?
    Hang out with us as we provide camping tips on where to stay in the park and how to remain BEAR AWARE. We'll even take you on the Plain of six glaciers hike with us!

    ABOUT US:
    We’re traveling full time, living on our own terms and showing you the up-close-and-personal details of us figuring it out along the way. Sometimes it’s about navigating big, life-altering decisions. Sometimes it’s about navigating the seemingly lawless free-for-all that is driving in Hanoi. It’s moments of triumph and moments of panic. The good, the bad, the ugly - and most importantly, the real and real funny.
    We’re not here to tell you “how it’s done.” Just how we’ve done it. And that whatever it is that’s calling you - the way you’ll do it is much more attainable than it may seem. We believe the world’s a more interesting place when people reject convention in favor of what they actually care about. This is us putting that idea to the test - one budget spreadsheet, RV renovation and mountain-peak drone video at a time.

      Every year someone gets attacked by Bears and cougars on trails June and july the most common. Does not matter if there is 1 person or 20 around You really have to limit yourself from going to far Tourist will throw a half ate apple in the bush or a candy wrapper Or have a open cooler at a camp site which attracts bears Just the smell they can sense for miles
      My mom at the age of 68 has a loaded shotgun near her door in Northern Ontario just to take out the garbage and has to check the fenced back yard before letting her small dog outside to pee And this is on the outskirts of a city that is less vast than Baniff
      And another reason not to let small dogs off a leash ...Eagles ..It has happen before

    Wow....I'm most certainly behind, as we're nearly part way through December by the time I've seen this, but yes, welcome to Canada, and I hope you get to see much more of it, through the coming years, and have the ability to share it with us all! Gosh, I've been to the Banff/Jasper area many times, but have never done any hiking (yet) although, in my younger years we flew to Calgary (from Vancouver) a few times, to snow ski in the Banff region, with it's 3 different ski recreation areas, of which I found 'Lake Louise' to be my all time favourite ski region, for it's scenic beauty and great runs! You're one brave soul, going for a swim in Glacial water Tim...kudo's to you man!! Very much enjoy how you film and put your video's together, as it's very well done. I watch many RV type UA-cam video's and you've got it down well, as after hearing from others on the topic, the 'editing' takes hours of work, so always realize those hours are well spent, with all of US enjoying every moment you share with us. Ok, as a 'new subscriber' I'm off to see more of your video's....and a big thank you, from another Canadian! :)

      Glad you're here Dale and thanks for the warm welcome to Canada. I didn't even know that there were ski areas around Banff until visiting this summer.....now its on the bucketlist. Excited to finally visit Whistler for our annual ski trip this coming Feb. I see your comments on a few different videos this morning. A real thank you- feedback is always great to hear as sometimes it feels like putting videos out into the void. We're literally sitting at a table at a rental in Florida editing away on a Saturday so this is the kind of stuff that serves as huge motivation.

    You guys need to do Lake Agnes tea house hike...more vertical gain than 6 glaciers and the quads will burn but well worth it.
    An fwi about the tent campground and the fortress around it..Lake Louise is a massive grizzly corridor especially around the river area by the campground..I know it seems a tad humorous but it's honestly needed for safety..as well as many trails "require" a minimum of groups of 4 while on them because of grizzly activity and 4 people look bigger than 1.
    We've seen grizzly many times on the right side of that fence.

I love to hike and cycle the Banff/Lake Louise area, but can tell you that there are many places missed because of it's hype. Thanks for sharing all that....comments like this give everyone else a bit of insider advice when they're in the area! Having made the drive from Florida all the way to Banff-we're completely guilty of straightlining right for the national park and probably bypassing a lot of hidden gems.

    Sadly after our experience in 2020 when we needed to cross Canada I think I may never go again. It's sad because I'd always wanted to go but at that point we just wanted to get to the other side. I now see Canada in a very different light than I ever dis before and honestly may just pay the 10,000.00 to take the ferry when we need to leave here. This looks amazing and the tea house seems so rewarding at the end of your hike. I wonder if it's still there after the last 2 years.

    And I thought that I was the only one with the uncontrollable desire to swim in Lake Louise. When I did it in 1970 (I was 22) the glacier at the far end of the lake came down as far as the water. I live in Alberta and last time I was there we were going to go to the Tea House but it was closed because of the muddy trails (early early spring). Canada is a very diverse Nation... That's what I love about being Canadian. I grew up in Canada's capital and had friend's who's parents immigrated from places all over the world, so everyone was the same in that they may have been culturally different to start off. In Canada, we don't often say we are 'Italian-Canadian' or 'Irish-Canadian' or 'African-Canadian'. We are just Canadian with different Cultural heritages.

    FYI Lakes, rivers in the mountainous area of BC and AB are glacial fed. You have to be careful, there's a reason you don't see people swimming or wading in them. True story, one young guy jumped off the top level of a houseboat into a lake. His heart stopped because of the sudden temperature change. In the summer, the sun will only warm the top 2 to 3 feet, below that it is frigid water. So, when he jumped from that height he went deeper than the top 3 feet into frigid water. If you must swim in these waters, ease into them, much like you did. Tourists have to be aware, read the signs. Enjoy Canada, just be careful.

    Go back in winter, skiing is GREAT at Sunshine & LL, and far less people. Make sure to hit Revelstoke!!!!

      TIM and FIN - skip Whistler. I’ve been to Park City and Whistler, and both are great for the non skier and off slopes atmosphere. Both have also gotten very commercialized and expensive. But if you’re interested in less crowds it’s Sunshine & Lake Louise, stay in Banff and take free shuttle to both. Revelstoke is not for everyone, but my 13 yr old could handle it. They say it’s 7% green. It may not be even that much. It’s 45% blue & 47% black. It’s hard to get to, but worth it. I was told PC 20 yrs ago was Banff, 20 yrs before that is Revelstoke. I’ll be back to both with my other son.

      It was perfect for what we needed it for. It was definitely a toy though- good enough for 1 hour tours where we could keep the shoreline close. Of course we put a hole in it the very first time we took it out but with a patch kit we were back in the water in no time.

    Thank goodness you're being "Bear Aware"... whoop whoop wait a minute... I was like, why is it called BANFF. worst definition of BANFF yet, *someones kicks girl in the lady junk* **BANFF!**

    • @timandfin
      @timandfin  5 років тому

      We rode into our campground one night after being up at lake louise and there was a ranger with lights on their car "escorting" a mama and two cubs through the camping area....definitely have to be bear aware. Wish we got good enough footage to make it into the episode.

      FYI....Banff is named after Banffshire, Scotland, the birthplace of two of the original directors of the Canadian Pacific Railway which was the corporation that built the Banff Springs Hotel. You can hear the Bagpipes at the hotel 3 times a day, I believe.

    • @timandfin
      @timandfin  5 років тому +1

      The Canadian National Parks have a bit of a leg up on US parks in that dogs are allowed on quite a few trails. It was AWESOME to be able to fun Pepper ragged on some good inclines-shes a pup with WAY too much energy.
      Obviously being partial to being able to hike with my dog, I totally understand why they're not allowed on trails everywhere- both safety for the natural wildlife of that area as well as a few bad dog owners not picking up after their pet.....can kind of ruin it for everyone.

    Please Fin.... slow down in your words. You are trying to smile and talk at the same time. It isn't working. You do slur your words. If you are trying to present a professional series of videos to promote, it isn't working.
    Tim, you're almost doing the same - smiling and talking at the same time. Doesn't work.....Sorry for the comments today.
