- Hello all!
First of all, for some reasons, I did not get an allocation on 992 GT3 RS from my dealer, but that is ok because i changed my philosophy at the same time :-)
so Here is the first test drive with my new car who replace the GT2 RS MR!!
a 100% NURBURGRING TRACK TOY!
My brand new car is a 2021 992 GT3 with manual gear box, steel brakes, , manthey suspension, manthey brakes upgrade which is consist to some brakes lines, fluid and brake pads (full MR aero conversion will be probably installed later on)
ALL OF THIS IS PORSCHE TEQUIPMENT AND MAKE IT FULL STOCK CAR WITH official FACTORY WARRANTY
GT2 was sold after 65kkms of intense use, so it was time for her to take some good holidays i think :-)
..
After done around 50 laps under 7min including 5LAPS in 6.44 btg with the gt2, i must say that fighting for insane fast laptime is not something that i like anymore.
By experience, that game of superfast btg laptiming on the nurburgring (superfast is under 6.55 at my opinion and no mistakes are allowed at that speed otherwise you crash hard)
That is very very risky on public track day with a street car not equipped with full cage and not with the full Marshalls post safety we can experience in nurburgring endurance racing for exemple.
Also arriving Kesselchen at 270+ when you find at the same place one other car with a beginner driver at 180km/h, isn’t something very pleasant, especially when you think about the result if you kick his ass...
And i must say that even with a lot of training i knew that i will never ever beat the factory drivers on that game with same car and with in public trackday conditions, that is impossible.
So why continuing driving for the fastest btg challenge with at the end no trophy or glory except to be « the fastest amateur »? I have personally nothing to prove on that way and this is an « unofficial » competition in any case.
Every fast btg guys must know that a record, even an Amateur one, will always be beaten by someone else….THERE IS ALWAYS A BIGGER FISH TO EAT THE SMALLER ONE :-)
So Enjoying this GT3 on track day or tf at some various speed is the things i like to do now and i keep nurburgring NLS racing to be in a 100% pushing spirit….normally in the 992 CUP car next year :-)
And Make a good result on the 24hrs nurburgring will have more sense for me :-)
So this GT3 is clearly slower on track than gt2 or gt3 rs or even 992 gt3 with pdk gear box, i think a manual vs PDK gear box 992 GT3 would be around 7/8 secs slower on the NURBURGRING with same driver.
And Then WHY i choose this car compare to a PDK version or even a 991 gt3 rs?
MAINLY for the driving pleasure, the emotions and the connection between the driver and the car that a manual gear box offer to the driver and that with a modern AAA chassis and aero!
The manual gear box of this car is a butter and a real pleasure to play with, much better than the one from the 997 gt3 rs or even the 991 gt3 touring or 991.2 GT3 for exemple.
The gear ratio is a bit long, but that is ok and finally iam using only 3/4/5 gear on the nordschleife, maybe the 2nd gear on a super fast lap on two corners but not 100% sure...
If we talk a bit about the lap you can watch on this video, that was my 10th laps ever in this car, done on private track day with brand new stock Pirelli Pzero tires, i brake super early and i was very gentle with the speed and momentum because i need more driving time into her to be good and safe, so a very gentle pleasant discovery lap :-)
In 2023 i will use the car only on michelin sport cup 2 normal and maybe one day i will try cup 2 r if perfect conditions, sub 7 lap is definitely possible for this car!
Few words about this 992 plateform, first the sound is REALLY INCREDIBLE especially compared to the GT2!
It sound even better from inside compare to a gt3 rs with OPF
The engine who take 9krpm is something that i missed a lot and iam so happy of this changing compare to the gt2
Second, the chassis of the car is an absolute game changer, the front end but also the general stability and even the stock aero performing very very well, iam SOOO impressed
The manthey suspension improve clearly the handling of the car and make it really more gentle on every kerbs and so as usual give one car more easy than the stock car which is already easy
I noticed that the manthey suspension offer a more sweet and confortable car for street driving use
So the car is 95% great….there is only something bad about the brake feeling that every gt3 owner who track the car noticed
The car brakes well but the pedal feeling is not very very good, there is clearly something not so right about the stock ABS calibration, i heard from Porsche that this problem will be solved next year, then it will be at my opinion the perfect nurburgring track tools for plenty enjoying that track !!! - Авто та транспорт

I've been riding on this track in AC for a while now and I am still learning it. Super hard track on the game, I can't imagine how it is like in the real deal. I like watching your videos so it helps me to understand the lines of this track! Great job and congrats on the new car.

Exactly! In racing we are all searching for the absolute best performance, but on trackday this is not my goal anymore, i prefer enjoying a nice car at various speed with no goal 😃👍🏻

Thanks my friend, what you mean overlay? Yes it is the track app with carplay, you have the same in your gt4

Nice easy "breakin" laps. It's great that MR mods keep the warranty! Have you ever thought about driving the 12 hrs of Sebring? I never got a chance to see you drive here in the US so, it would be a treat to watch and a new challenge as well! It's a track very well suited to the Porsche. I think it would be cool to bring some "Nurburg guys" over to see how you would do.

This car should be almost as fast as gt3 rs mr if is mr too... So with appropiate tyres could fly in corners.
100% agree with the description, for me is wrong constantly chasing record laps instead of having a fun laps without almost any risks. The ring is for fun specially in not track days. And yep, always someone break your record lap, it's obvious but even if not, I think not make sense only for "demonstrate I'm the better amateur driver on the ring in this car".

Not at all, the handling of the 992 is better than the gt2, just the crazy aero is missing, but because the car is less power and lighter it is perfectly ok
J'adore le son, ca chante bien, sans être le truc insupportable à la longue d'une GT4 RS.
Par contre j'ai une question con, le gros affichage du Delta c'est un truc Porsche ou c'est une appli ? (parceque j'ai l'impression que ca passe par Carplay ?)
PS : j'avais découvert ton compte à l'époque de l'Atom vu que j'en ai une aussi, ca manque les bons coups de volant en vidéo en Atom :)

Congratulations, absolutely right choice with mauell box, it's much more fun! Sport Auto has done a good test on the same day with the same driver at Hockenheim regarding the 718 GT4 manual vs PDK.
The manual GT4 was 1 tenth faster. (1.54.5min vs 1.54.6) The PDK: car with a better diff lock & closely spaced box wins in the corners but loses to the manual box on the straights. In general, I would say that for 95% of hobby drivers, most of them are probably faster in the PDK because it is simpler. But the last 5% of hobby drivers can drive really fast even with a manual gearbox. I am sure you are one of them👍🏻

Evo mag in UK on Anglesea circuit managed 1minute 13.4 in pdk 991.2 and 1 minute 13.9 in a manual, so .5 second difference. Not much, albeit tested on different days. I have a manual gt3 and love it!

The 992 GT3 MR (PDK version) has just been tested in Sport Auto (Germany), on a complete lap (20,6km, not BTG, 8°C outside T°, 13°C track T°) in 6'59, 991 GT2 RS 6'58, 488 Pista 7'00 (720 HP et minimum 250 k€ en plus...), 992 GT3 (not MR) 7'05, 991.2 GT3 RS 7'05 , all those cars beeing driven by the same (fast) journalist driver. In comparison, Kevins Estre drives this 992 GT2 MR in 6'51...
Finalement une bonne chose après avoir goûté à un monstre performant de revenir à plus de maîtrise, d’émotions (les neuf mille tours et l’atmo !) et de sensations
De plus avec la disparition de l’atmosphérique de plus en plus nul doute que tu ne fais pas une mauvaise affaire financièrement en terme de placement

Do you feel the car a lot different with MR kits compare to stock, I mean a lot?? I am thinking to attach MR kits also, but I still use mine on the road, just worry if it become too stiff.
At the moment i only have suspensions and if you read my report in the description, i have says that the car is more confortable than stock 🤩🤩
It is a must have, suspension is not marked manthey anymore, only Porsche tequipment marked on it

I really don't understand why you did not get an 992 GT3 RS allocation from your dealer ... you are a customer who owned several porsche before and you drove them a lot and fast _(so some publicity for the brand in a good way)_ .
My father also did not get an allocation and he has bought 4 GT3 RS and 1 GT2 RS the last 15 years ...
But he drives not so much and fast as you _(and has no YT channel for bringing good Porsche content to the "fans")_ .
What do you think why you did not get one?
Or will you get one in 1-2 years maybe?
Anyhow GT3 _(MR)_ seems a nice car and the emotional side with the manual gear box is another philosophy than just pushing under 7min Nürburgring laps ... which is no more "your thing" as you thankfully explained in the video description.
When you got one Sub7 _(you got about 50 ^^ :-P )_ in the pocket, you can proceed to some other experiences indeed.
P.S.: A higher camera angel/view in the future would be nice - anyhow thanks for your content!

Great choice. I went from GT4 manual to GT3 (991.2) manual late this year, only had time for 1 day at Spa. I don't believe the PDK will be much faster. Manual has a bit less weight and less losses in the drivetrain, on fast tracks the latter especially helps. Shorter tracks with a lot of going between 2nd and 3rd gear the PDK will gain quite a bit. If it's mostly 3rd and up then not so much. At Spa my stock manual car did basically RS lap time no problem, probably the small rear wing helped as there are not as many high speed corners for the aero to work but lots of long straights. Still the manuals are a force to be reckoned with :)

If you give to me the same car as i have now in pdk and manual, i can promess you that i will be easy 10 secs slower with manual (which is not a problem for me if you have read my description)
Manual is definitely challenging and ask more engagements to the driver, here i drove quiet slow on stock tire but thrust me getting a 6:59 with this car, will ask me the same engagement than a 6:46 into my ex gt2 rs mr 🥵
If you put a pro driver with a lot of miles on both gearbox cars specs i think 3-4 secs diff on a ring laptime is possible, but not with me for sure 🥲
@@sebastianvittel74 With a bit more time and practice you'll probably find a lot more time from the manual without even trying :) The Ring with a manual is tricky for sure - the G forces make it tricky to shift when you want to in some corners. But at least the GT3 has some advantages there, in the GT4 I was often "in between" 2nd and 3rd gear but the GT3 has better torque, a wider powerband and shorter gearing. On an empty lap and enough courage (it's a very expensive car for me) I think manual 991.2 sub-7 could be a thing. The track is so fast these days... see you in '23 at some MR days hopefully. You are correct that this should be fun, the time only matters in a proper qualifying session :D
PS try the no-lift shift function, it's quite a funny feeling.

@@sebastianvittel74 I think you are correct, maybe the 2 slowest corners can use it but it will upset the car more and increase the workload for minimal time gains 👍

I have one question: "Why did you choose the manual transmission?" - You won't find that in a racing car anymore...
Only for the pleasure of driving, iam not looking for the maximum performance, just enjoyment, compare to a pdk the manual is around 7/8 secs slower with same driver on the ring!

Yes, way less understeer, and better stability, in fact the car is much easier and less intimidating than a 700hp porsche offcourse
@sebastian vittel Hey there, was looking for some words of wisdom on the 718 platform. Was going to send you a DM on Instagram but looks like your page has gone? I was mainly wondering how you have found the cooling on the car? I see quite a few people saying the cooling on the S is not adequate, and instead best to go with a GTS (3rd rad) or with a base (less power so I guess less heat) to avoid it. What is your 2 cents please? PS hope you are loving the amazing 992 GT3!

On the gts there is absolutely no issue about cooling because the turbo is bigger than on the S, it not give such a lots of more hp, but the cooling is much better and you can lap lap lap
My gts is 100% stock engine even no remap or exhaust
