      Honestly that's a dumb comparison. Late night talk shows aren't serious interviews. Those are comedy shows. The hosts are comedian so they have to interrupt to guests in order to make jokes. Nobody watches late night talk shows for serious interviews.

    My last 100 mile ride was 6 hours and 20 minutes. It was tough but not grueling. I’m a 19 year old in great shape but by no means a top cyclist. I also have an entry level road bike. Bilzerian buying a top $$$ bicycle and drafting isn’t an amazing feat. I’m not downplaying his ride, that’s fucking awesome that he did it and mad props to him. But for the people who think that this is an insane accomplishment, it is actually totally doable.

    • @jayminer6729
      @jayminer6729 6 років тому +1

      I believe you. I did a 70 miler in about 8 hours and I'm primarily a lifter, my cardio isn't amazing by any means, that was my first ride anywhere near that long and prior to training for that ride I was a very casual rider only doing short rides of about 10 miles or less a few times a week on a mountain bike.

    300 Miles in 48 Hours. That's like 6 miles per hour.
    You can cruise on a mountain bike at 10 mph. The road bikes can get you to 20 mph with relative ease. Plus, that trip is goes through some of the flattest terrain in America. What am I missing here?
    BTW, in my book, he still gets props for doing it.

      I also think it's not such a big deal. I did 100 km in and MTB with some climbings in about 5hrs. Taking it easy I think I will be able to do 200 km in a day, with break at noon, sleep, eat and all that.
      He definitely had a much better bike than me, also had draft (very important) and a relative flat terrain. I don't see how he shouldn't done it. The weight is less important when it's mostly flat.

    He was already an experienced athlete with a good endurance base. 5 weeks of training would make a big difference to him settling into long days on the bike. With good equipment and support he could even afford take have 2 sleeps of 8 hours and finish this no problem. Not an easy challenge but more than manageable for Dan.

      I did a century with a week of cycling 30 Kms a day. Century is easy! 5-6 hrs it takes, thats it

    But then his dad would secretly pick him up for the first 275 miles and drop him off at the end like he did with poker. You know launder $60 million thru Dan the easiest way, the casino and he'll be famous because people think he did it on his own.

    It's not that impressive... you'd only have to bike at 10mph for 15 hours each day. It's also downhill with a 2000 foot elevation drop...

      It's really not. I rode 240miles from London to Paris in 24 hours (including the time it took to cross the channel by ferry). An extra 60 miles in twice the time is not such a big deal.

      Its about 10km an hour if you don't sleep, this is really not that hard if you don't pace it like a muppet.

      Have you seen Mark beaumonts around the world in 78 days? 300 miles is tough but for hundreds of thousands of dollars? You can pay to do multi day sportive and cover that distance, up mountains, let alone draft behind a van, what a load of shit

    It's a lot of milage but no where near impossible. There's 438 Kms between Vegas > LA. Let's assume a min. 10 hours of rest / sleep (which is plenty) - that's leaves 38 hours of actual ride time (438KM divided by 38 hours = 11.52) at just 11.5KPH he would make it. Even a shitty cyclist can easily maintain 17kph (barely any effort easily) and I can ride for hours and hours at 22kph (twice the required speed. Would not be easy but totally doable. He also didn't mention he did most of it on a recumbent bike - those bikes where you're lying on your back - he only showed video of him on a sit up bike but that's not how he did most of it.

    Somewhat baffling that all these people would bet so much on something which is not only clearly possible, but bordering on patently easy. They need to go back to school and study up on basic math. With no stops, it's 6.5mph. That's jogging speed. Not cycling speed. It'll take a few weeks to build up calluses on your sit bones, and toughen up your skin on your bum a bit. You also need to build up some stamina back/neck. Easily done in 6 weeks. It could be tough if your bike isn't setup properly, but there's no way that a guy with proper grit would fail. A normally fit hobby cyclist would easily do it in 20 hours of riding (2x10), which leaves plenty of time to have proper coffee breaks, and breakfast/dinner at a nice hotel including a good 10h sleep. 15mph is spot on total newbie speed. A reasonably fit cyclist wouldn't even be sweating at that speed. The biggest obstacles would be sunburn, stiff neck, and a sore bum.

    Bullshit, I did 50 miles, no training with a strong headwind, on a single-speed road bike in 8hrs. 300 miles is very plausible although it'd be very challenging. Another time 4.5 hrs, no headwind or training with my dad.
