    Thanks for watching! I had such fun making this one and I was happy to do it for my son and my daughter-in-law. Links for the items I used and to the recipes I used are in the description. Thank you for supporting me in this way! (Also, please don’t come for me if you don’t like my method of decorating cakes. Just use the method you’re most comfortable with!)

    Loved it! Lots of good tips. I had to laugh out loud how you just "popped the baby out"...lol Too bad that's not how they happen ;) Do you wash the faux flowers or disinfect them? I'm a freak about stuff that may touch the cake. The straw idea was great and putting the flowers on the cake board. Thanks again. I love your newsletter and blog too.

      Yeah I laughed at myself about saying that when I was editing this. 😆 I don't wash the flowers. I usually wipe them with a damp cloth. They only lightly touch the very outside of the cake (usually), so if it's a worry, you could always just set aside that slice of cake, or scrape off the icing on that slice. Thanks for the lovely comment!

    That was very interesting. I learned a lot watching you do this. I FINALLY got why you always put the cake boards on top. Very beautiful cake and a great job.
    Now, one dumb question I’ve always wondered. What about leveling specialty cakes like German Chocolate, Italian Cream, Hummingbird, etc. I notice sometimes my cakes comes out not totally straight.

      No dumb questions. Yeah the cake boards on the top and bottom of the tiers are to help me ice the cake and get straight sides. So for your question, do you mean they don't come out straight because of the nuts in the frosting?

    Question - if you're using perishable fillings, how would you let the cake settle? Can it settle while in the fridge??? BTW - I love the cake board flowers idea!

      @@cindys2995 thanks! Yes if it’s perishable filling, it has to settle in the fridge. It will still settle, just maybe not quite as much but it’s better to stay safe by keeping it chilled.

    Do you freeze your layers before you crumb coat?

    • @IScreamforButtercream
      @IScreamforButtercream  Місяць тому

      @@valerie75 I do not. I try to keep the cake layers close to room temp until after I decorate it. I’ve found keeping them cold, causes condensation between the cake and the icing and that can cause buttercream blowouts (large air bubbles pushing the buttercream out). That’s just my experience though. Others like to decorate frozen cakes or chilled cakes and it works fine for them. It’s just never worked well for me.
