    They can't blame this one on miners. Cutting the spec and increasing the price. I have a feeling this 4GB "variant" isn't long for this world. Expect an upgrade. For more money of course.

    • @andersjjensen

      But that's the thing: with a 128 bit bus you have two options: 4GB and 8GB. It is that simple. One memory module takes 32 bits of buswidth. So you need 4 modules. GDDR6 is available in 1GB and 2GB modules.... You really believe that Nvidia is going to let their mobile "peasant level" GPUs have as much VRAM as their desktop 3070/Ti? People are already scratching their head why the desktop 3060 has 12GB when the desktop 3080 only has 10GB....

    • @anhiirr

      @@andersjjensen the 3070 does have 8gb though. and when compared to a concurrent 2070S max q both at 80-100w. The 3070 shows the % jump from rtx 1st gen to ampere. Especially on desktops if i cap my NON AAA games to my refreshrate. My 3070 strix sees 80-125w max in most NON intensive games especially PVE where g-sync or sub 4ms frame times dont even matter(imo) esp when a controller is being used. The problems with laptops in general is how un-educated the buyers are and how they try to "idealize" a 15" panel or "solution" to be ideal for "gaming" or 300hz for fps and "higher res" for "future proofing"....yet the gpus are max q or lack mux switch(in the case of 300hz options)..........theres a relative level of efficacy that is largely missed by the buyers....that the manufacturers are PUSHING out as a standard. 140w 3070 with a 5800h out benchmarks most non unlocked intel builds and non zen3 amd builds with 2070-2080 desktop gpus as it is.....LAPTOPS are like one of the only viable/puchase options at the moment for 1080p-1440p gaming....sadly...at least they can sell these laptops a year later for minmal losses vs a "budget" build that drops in value with each passing year. But 3070 laptops are priced in the "full build" price point. Im just saying this bc you have to think about all the 3600-3700x b450 builds that nobody wants to buy second hand. ETC that can barely keep up with these 3070 140w laptops as is. these 1000-1500$ builds. That are already dated and being passed in 1440p by laptops. As long as i can find the right components for the right price ideally with a full TB nvme. I can always afford a 2-300$ monitor afterwards vs "BUYING" into a 300hz 15" panel that literally blows for competitive FPS bc its soo damn small. PPL really prove their "lack" of experience gaming on a laptop if theyre going to STAN playing CS:GO or valorant off 15" then say "thats all i have or can afford" off a thousand dollar+ system....thats a suckers game. Just like trying to sell a ryzen 2 system, or "saving to upgrade" THEIR GPU so they can get a 3080 and wind up with 3070 performance figures.

      @andersjjensen 3 роки тому +5

      @@MatisseXV The 3060ti is the only card in the entire line up that has an amount of VRM that makes some kind of sense compared to it's performance bracket. The 3080 is absolutely, hands down, the card that makes the least sense. It is already thrashing the PCIe bus at 4K Ultra in RE Village, Godfall, Doom Eternal and Cyberpunk with Raytracing set to max because of it's skimpy VRAM.
      Ideally the lineup would have been
      8GB 3060/ti
      12GB 3070/ti
      16GB 3080/ti
      32GB 3090
      The 3060 is $40 too expensive because it has 4GB more VRAM than it needs. The rest are too expensive because they have way too little VRAM to justify the price :P
      But Nvidia, in their infinite wisdom, decided to keep the buswidth of last gen once more, so they're stuck with "too little or too much" for nearly all models. The only "done right by accident" they have is the 3060ti because it is based on 3070 silicon. And for that precise reason it is also hard to come by. The vast amount of dies are good enough for 3070s and 3070tis... so Nvidia are going to cut down good dies to make 3060tis exactly when 3070s and 3070tis start sitting on shelves, and not a second sooner.

      AMD are releasing their Navi 24 (laptop and desktop), their final RDNA2 GPU, later this year, with a 64-bit bus, 16CU's, 1024 Shaders and 4GB GDDR6. The perf expectations is of a RX 580 / GTX 1660, at board power (75W).
      It will probably be named to 6500 XT to price gouge the poor consumers at $250, when it should be named the RX 6300 priced at less than $100 since it's replacing and in the category of the RX 560 (and the RX 5300, which was OEM-only) class (for 2021).
      But no, AMD will price the MSRP at $200 or above for this shit, just like the greedy fucks at Nvidia.

    I agree lowering the VRAM from the 1660 TI to the 3050 Ti was a dickish move my Nvidia. But you have to admit most of those test weren't fair and were not the target use of this GPU. It isn't interesting to benchmark with settings that deliberately exceed 4GB of RAM, point out 9 FPS at the lowest point, and then also point out that you shouldn't run at these quality settings. It is clearly a 1080p card made for medium settings. It would be more interesting finding a more optimized settings and only bench a 2-3 games with 3-4 GPUs (1660 Ti M, 2060M, 3050Ti M, and 3060M). Obviously doing that takes a lot of time but knowing this card gets extremely low performnace on settings it was never meanth to run on really means nothing. You would be better off saying, we aren't going to test it because it's VRAM falls below our standards of testing. And you would be in the right by doing that since 4GB is shit for those settings. It was like you made this video to piss off Nvidia since they know you are now untouchable due to the internet rallying behind you.
    I hope for better content in the future that is more useful to the viewer.

    NVIDIA is crippling VRAM capacity on purpose to space out the product stack, as lower end cards would simply perform too well with those upscaling techs like DLSS or FSR enabled. So in the end DLSS will mostly serve NVIDIA by allowing them to sell less powerful chips for the same price.

    Yes, this card is limited. However, you mentioned DLSS once. And failed to mention, you can turn most games to low settings, turn DLSS on and you get maximum frame rates and it looks pretty damn good. I have a mediocre HP Victus with a 12th gen I7 and 3050ti and it runs almost everything. Upscaling to 4K is nice. For instance. Battlefield 2042 on auto (low is default for this card) turn on DLSS to performance and it looks very close to the Series X version. I have very good eye sight and it's also going from 60fps console locked, and without raytracing I get on average, 105fps. DLSS is totally missed here but a good review and spec comparison

    Considering the explosion in VRAM usage since the GTX 900 sieries, Nvidia kept the VRAM of many cards low, except 10 sieries, RTX 2060 Super and 3060, so the more modern cards. Of course most of the cards since the introduction of RTX had enougth VRAM, having to little is more of a problem the further you go into the future. I am currently using a GTX 980 for obvious reasons and the 4GB... , well the 1060 in my laptop could use 8GB, so I am constantly worried about texture quality, because I think that VRAM overflow can leed to bugs and crashes when using the Vulkan API in non Vulkan games (I am using Linux). The GTX 980 might be 7 years old, but its still a good card, this VRAM limitation however makes it less viable wich might leed consumers to buy a new card when its not necessary or prevent budget gamers from buying older used cards, I think thats Nvidias goal, fewer resells means more new cards sold, means more profit.

  • @Minitomate

    The new laptop GPU series have been seriously limited on VRAM capabilities where the 3050 and 3060 would rather go even better with an extra of 2GB of VRAM (at least for their high wattage units).
    And there's the 3080 that weirdly have too much VRAM. Quite a disastrous line of products.

    • @andersjjensen
      @andersjjensen 3 роки тому

      10GB of VRAM isn't too much for a 4k card. It's was on the low side at launch. And RE Village is already proving that. The 3090 is on average 9% faster than the 3080, but in RE Village it is 17% faster at 4K Ultra with RT set to max. That's what "just slightly exceeding VRAM capacity" looks like... A top shelf card should not *barely* hold up on launch day. It should hold up well for 3 generations at least. Godfall at 4k Ultra uses 12GB. Doom Eternal at 4k Ultra Nightmare Quality used 10.5GB before the RT patch. RT can easily consume up to 20% more VRAM... the 3080 is going to age like milk... The 3080 ti will start suffering in 2-3 years max.
      The desktop line should have been:
      6GB 3050/3050ti
      8GB 3060/3060ti
      12GB 3070/3070ti
      16GB 3080/3080ti
      32GB 3090 (or rather, they should have stuck with the Titan naming - because that's what it is... minus the professional drivers).
      AMD may not have the DLSS/RT advantage this generation, but their cards are going to age a fuckton better because they got the VRAM right. Both current-gen consoles have 16GB of shared memory, but hardware to stream textures in very very fast, so you can pretty much count that as effectively 16GB of VRAM. This is what every AAA game in 1-2 years from now is going to target...
