It's great to witness this pioneer MC and producer getting his flowers now. Still remember watching the "It's Funky Enough" video countless times on the JukeBox network during summer break and I still have my vinyl version of his debut album. Glad to say I was alive to witness it as it happened. Thank you for your contributions to our culture D.O.C.
The formula was the best written song I ever heard 🙌 💯 someone asked me who would I base my style on as the best back in 91 my favorite is D.O.C. God Bless my Brother
Straight up. I've listened to rap since 1980. D.O.C. was ahead of his time. I make young homies listen to him and show them look this is better than anything out and it's over 30 yrys old
That's true. D.O.C was ahead of his time. At the time I didn't realize it. I knew he was ill. But I didn't realize this man was way ahead the curve for 1980's rap.
I made sure my sons listened to the D.O.C.’s classic album as well as others from that time. They have learned to appreciate lyricism much more and have a better taste of music now.
You hit the nail on the head with what you said about classic artists and their albums. I grew up listening to both hip-hop and hard rock/metal and in the world of hard rock bands like Aerosmith and Metallica and Ozzy Osbourne, their classic albums from 20-30 years ago are still looked at as some of the best ever buy that fan community. Hip-hop cannot wait to Call their legends old and washed. Every other genre of music in this country you have classic rock stations you have classic country stations, you have 70s and 80s Pop stations. You can find these stations in every major city in America. I know on satellite radio there is a Classic Hip Hop Station but I’m talking about free radio. The reason why there are no Classic Hip Hop Station’s is because now after an album is a year Old no one fucks with it anymore. I think legendary albums and artist should be celebrated like other genres of music celebrate their legends. When I hear an interview with one of today’s up-and-coming rappers and he’s openly just talking shit about legends and saying something like “no one fucks with them anymore they old” I just shake my head because he’s green lighting a system that will make his music obsolete in five years by his way thinking . I still listen to the first chronic album, to doggy style, to Warren G regulate the G Funk era, those first four ice cube albums, N.W.A. straight Outta Compton, the DOC no one can do it better, I still have hardcopies of those CDs and I still listen to them today. Not saying I don’t like new music too but I’m not going to throw away some of the Best music ever made just because he gets older. And all those albums I just named, they still hold up today.
I agree but they all went nuts on the track. When Eazy said "F" a car he'll do a do MFN walk by. I heard enough. Late 80's and those dudes were spittin' like that. Amazing 👏🏽
SUMMER 1989 I WAS 13 IN CHICAGO WHEN THE NO ONE CAN DO IT BETTER ALBUM DROPPED!!! His style and his flow catapulted him to my 2nd favorite rapper only behind Rakim from New York!!! Historically speaking Generation X especially in Chicago has to remember that rap music did not get a lot of mainstream airplay you literally had to have cable television just to get Rap City on BET and Yo MTV Raps to see his videos off of that album!! This was a great interview the album brought back so many memories of my life from my older brother being diagnosed with HIV myself becoming a teenager & my bicycle getting stolen that album helped get me throw some tough times.. I appreciate this interview it was great to hear some of his thoughts and hear where his mentality is now please forgive me for the long-ass comment but you don't know how much this was appreciated PEACE FROM CHICAGO ILLINOIS💯
I agree totally with the D.O.C. because I was in the industry back then and almost signed with a major label but Dallas has always been a spot where we couldn't ban 2gehter and make a shift back then. There were many groups and artist from the whole Dallas that had major talent BUT we could come collectively 2gether, we WERE our own worst enemies.
Still be bumping the formula love all my old school rappers from back in the day wish we can go back to the day new school trying to take over I'm down with the old school rappers back in the day new school I do not listen to don't make sense

I’m forever a fan of the D.O.C. since N.W.A and the Posse in ‘87 when he was part of the Fila Fresh Crew especially thru Straight Outta Compton & No One Can Do It Better... the late 80s was the greatest time for hip hop period because classic materials came out during that time!!!✊🏾💪🏾💯
Glasses said “this shit is the Mona Lisa of today” #FACTS That album slaps right now IN ANY HOOD, IN ANY CONTINENT that KNOWS hip hop… Big shout to the D.O.C. 💯
“The greatest renaissance in all of arts.” “Y’all records are as popular as the Mona Lisa.” -Glasses Malone This may be the best way I’ve heard it worded.
Peace... The D.O.C. Was One Of The Top Lyricist, Which Shows That After His Voice Was Diminished, He Still Was Active In The Industry; No One Can Do It Better(Timeless), Was Destined To Be 1 Album Cause The Title Spoke It(This Included The D.O.C.)...🌌💀🌌
The formula has some of the most prolific and we'll thought rhymes of all time... would love to hear an hour long version of him just flowing over that beat.... The west coast Rakim
Glasses Malone really showed great interviewing skills with this interview I really enjoyed this one and the D.O.C is definitely one of the greatest of all times and needs his respect 👊🏾
Glasses Malone is terrible as an interviewer and as a guest. I get it, he wants to be heard but he should get his own separate platform so he can do his thing.
The D.O.C. is the biggest 'what if' in musical history...not many can be viewed as a legend with only one album, but with the contributions he's made, he is one of the best to ever do it, without a doubt.
It's about time somebody said some real stuff. Thanks for your Hop knowledge." I'm an anyolater standing a full 6'3, and really think you wanna deal with me. Portrait of, hold on Dre, stop the beat, let me catch my breath". The DOC by the way, is and will always be GREAT.. MIND BLOWING
MC.REN murdered everybody on that Grand Finale track sorry yall ride Cube and D.O.C wave because of popularity like Ren wasn't killing them on them NWA tracks
I've always said, if the D.O.C hadn't had his unfortunate accident, he'd definitely would have been the Godfather and untouchable in my mind. In regards to my previous statement, in no way did I mean to diminish this man's accomplishments, development and foothold in the rap game. I meant more so that his drops would've ruled all media. I know that sounds superficial like the D.O.C. cornering all the tabloids somehow takes away from what he's done. No it's saying if you don't recognize this man, well you should cause he's a big deal.
This interview was fire. D.O.C. is not a legend. He's an icon....D.O.C. was the 1st to mix rap with singing. Snoop couldn't handle Ice Cube's bars but he's number 2 in terms of gangsta rap behind Ice Cube. Bone thugs Harmonized but there singing came from the D.O.C.
