I just wanted to make a comment to participate in this nice forum. Subscribed as well as I like nice people.
I do bikejoring(dryland dog sledding) here in Alabama and I am doing videos based around cycling, pets and art myself. You were sent to my feed and I appreciate your community based video. I think 2025 is going to be another year for the bicycle. Now I am glad you brought up safety and issues you experienced and how you kept your cool adverting disaster. I just want to say it's important that you grow with your bicycle. The first thing I was told when I was young is you have to learn to take a fall. Bicycles and horses were our mode of transportation. This was the most valuable advice in my sixty + year life. I've fallen, crashed, bucked, rodeo'd, motorcycled into ditches to avoid head-ons my whole life. Had I not learned how to fall I would have had more broken bones than Evil Knievel. So my advice is practice falling first. Go to the Gym and have a someone help you learn. This does a lot for confidence really helps advert panic.
My next bit of advice is practice slowly. Understand how your bike is made. Set your expectations on your budget. Ride with others more experienced whenever possible. Don't push the bike beyond it's capabilities. If you don't know go slow. Get to know every sound and how it feels. Understand if something broken on a bike, ebike or motorcycle it's a risk to your life to ride it. Why? There are only a few parts on them and almost all of them are critical.
As far as the best bike. I believe it's one you have. There are great cheap bikes out there but YOU WILL AND MUST LEARN HOW TO WRENCH ON THEM even if you go to a bikeshop. Start simple changing tires and tubes repairing flats and how to handle the bike when you do have a flat. Daily maintenance and inspections.
If you can afford it have at least two bikes. I have seven. Almost all are used. All are budget or used trash bikes into treasure. When one bike has problems it doesn't get ridden until fixed.
I think a bike shop is really important. However they need more support as they could do so much more for the community. Like advocate for bicycle lanes, community rides, safety training, sports and charity rides, and much more. 😃

UA-cam is loaded with great bicycle information. If you buy budget bikes especially from dept. stores. check everything don't assume anything. This year's experience out of 5 purchases 3 came with missing pieces, and two couldn't be ridden until parts were sent. One had to be returned due to shipping damage. Used bikes from bike shops are the best choice for novices.
Last thing as this closes. I have yet to search on UA-cam and not find a video on specific named bikes. They have all been there. Just saying binge watch on your bike and bike repair.

please do more frequent videos, I think the cycling world needs more real, every day people who are doing grassroots advocacy for how liberating being on a bicycle is... it's the machine that changed the world, and people like you can help us make it change it further... I'm subscribed now, and this middle aged man is very interested in what you have to say !
