I had a huge fungus gnat problem with my avocados. One pot is too big to submerge in water, so not watering the top was problematic (I'm watering once a week and letting it dry out in between). I tried using sticky tape traps, liquid traps, I was also vacuuming all the adult flies I could see from the soil EVERY DAY for 6 weeks (removing probably 50-100 adult gnats every day), all without making seemingly any difference at all. What ended up saving me was pyrethrin + piperonyl butoxide pesticide. I didn't think it was going to work and I was a bit scared that it would affect my plants but I sprinkled the thinnest layer of this powder on the soil and it IMMEDIATELY dropped the fungus gnat population down to almost zero (where I would normally see 30-40 crawling around in the pot, the day after sprinkling I barely found 2 and they were not doing well). I'm really surprised at how effective it was and how simple this solution was given literal months struggle with the other methods. Pyrethrin and piperonyl butoxide are supposed to be fine for people and cats/dogs, indoors use too, the biggest issue seems to be with aquatic creatures so don't use this if you have fish, I guess. Other than that, are there any good reasons not to use this on avocados? (It seems to cost around $10 for 250 grams, I don't think I used even 2 grams of the stuff for my pots.)
Oh wow this is exactly what I was looking for. I literally just asked u a question about your fruit fly traps and told ya about my fungus gnat issue I have in potting mix indoors. I got it from Bunnings btw so be careful with Bunnings potting mix lol
Great instruction 👍 I have a question I have a “persea gratissima” avocado plant It’s now 1 year and 4 months old.. when those my plant get side branches And can I take 1 branch off and re grow that as a back up??
I have them in my red wiggler indoor worm bins . I have tried the cider, sticky things, mosquito dunk water, drying my bins out . Omg they won't go away. Do you have any other ideas to help me control these Gnats. Thanks for any input.
That's really frustrating! There isn't really anything we can do to get rid of flies from inside the worm farm - using any chemical methods risks killing your worms, you can't let it the top stay dry... because of the worms, so it's tricky! I made a video a few years ago about how I control fruit flies in my garage, which I still use today to manage them around the worm farm. ua-cam.com/video/7lxbAWAG--U/v-deo.html
I had an extremely small fungus gnat problem when I brought in some of my mom's sick plants to nurse them back to health, and I was able to stomp it out partially due to just covering the worst effected plants soil with some rocks. The babies weren't able to crawl out of the soil and continue the life cycle. (it probably also helps that i developed an underwatering problem around this time, it probably helped out too haha)
I have these stupid creatures in my house dark wing fungus gnats and I don't have any plants in my house at all. But I've read enough to find out that they are also attracted to organic decaying matter or material? And the only thing I could think of is underneath my sink in the kitchen we've had a leak and it's pretty bad actually the wood and everything is damp and nasty we've got to get it fixed ASAP but financials situation that's been difficult anyway I'm just about to watch your video and I'm hoping to get some ideas looking forward to watching it and getting rid of these rotten little creep faces
I hate these feral pesty bugs. They are so bad in my home atm. I am ordering some more apple cider vinegar ASAP. I knew acv works for other flying bugs but I wasn’t sure if it helps with gnats.
Wow ive got a serious ? About an avacodo seed ive been doin for a couple of months. The root is grt but comin out the top are beautiful white blooms. What is it nvr seen bfore doin this
I googled a bit and it seems like that's a mutation that happens sometimes? You could wait and see what happens but from what I gathered they don't survive long as they don't produce the leaves necessary to live :/

Great question! I haven’t had any success with propagating avocado branches - but I’d love to give it a go - let me know how you get on!

I have already tried these strategies, but how do you reduce the flying ones all over the house?

U have to order acv ut local store doesnt sell it
Good luck! I’ve had lots of success with my ACV traps. Hopefully you’re able to sort your gnats out!
Dude Your Video Helped So Much🤘🏽
my avocadoes wont grow leaves they just keep getting taller and they have tiny leaves on top that dont really do much

@@Luna-ke1co wow ty
Luna oh wow really? So it isn’t lack of fertiliser or sun etc? I haven’t seen that before.
@@NMW80 I've never seen or heard of this case before so I'm not sure myself :P
@@NMW80 it has plenty of sun inside a sunroom
Thank you for great video
My pleasure :)
Thanks teach 👍🏻
can you use another type of vinegar instead of apple cider vinegar?
I’m not sure! It’s the sweetness of the ACV that attracts the flies. I haven’t tried others.
